While add ESXi 6 existing hosts, vcenter server 5 std and esxi host 6 cann't add to AD

Hello

Greetings. !

We have seen vCloude 5 Enterprise edition and vCenter Server Standard 5.5

at the moment all my existing hosts ESXi 5.1 are managing through vCenter Server Standard 5, now recently we buy vCloude 6 Enterprise edition

(1) I found the following problems all add ESXi 6 hosts (VMware ESXi - 6.0.0 - Update1-3380124- HPE) to AD sales thru of sphere, it is read error.

error.jpg

I have already set up network, DNS, make sure firewall ports, Ping - are all OK.

(2) Moreover, while trying to create new CD, add the cluster, then add hosts, is giving following error.

error1.jpg

I can add new Hosts 06 ESXi Existing vCenter Server 5.5 Standard or I have to buy updated additional license for vcenter server 5 std vcenter 6 standard / enterprise.

Thanks in advance.

ESXi 6 cannot be managed by vCenter 5.5 or earlier.

He needs a same version or higher of vCenter server.

Can vCenter Server 4.0 and Update Manager be installed on the same server?

I understand that they both must separate databeses.

Is the same as VI 3.5.

You need two DB, but also on the same SQL instance.

So you can install on the same computer.

  • vCenter server is down and esxi server db server hosting is due

    Hello vmware experts,

I hope that you will be able to help me with this problem. Suddenly our vcenter server fails. I discovered that the vcenter Server database server is down. When I look back, the esxi itself host is having a problem.

I already rebooted the esxi. I tried to connect to this host again via vsphere client and at first, he says that it takes too much time to respond (this is the reason for the way I know that the host has a problem) then I restarted the console management officer. This time I was able to connect to the client via vsphere esxi host. Unfortunately, all virtual machines are showing unknown.

assuming that you have shared stored, you can always make a note of what the VCDB VM runs on (even if the guests are unkknow).  To connect to a different host, browse the shared data store and find the VCDB VM, there right click on the .vmx file and add to the inventory.  Then turn the VCDB VM.  You can do the same if your vCenter host is a virtual computer.  Once you get the two VM added to the inventory and power, you will find that things are a little easier to troubleshoot.

Anyone know if any problem of operation of vCenter Server 5.5 on a DB Oracle 10 g?

The support matrix shows no support, however, I find that there is also no support for Oracle 12 c matrix, but I find that the vCenter Server 5.5 Update 2 Release Notes indicates that it supports Oracle 12 c.

The database support matrix VMware shows in fact that Oracle 12 c is supported for the database of U2 vCenter 5.5:

10g, however, is not supported. It can work if you follow the same instructions (see the documentation for vCenter 5.0 where it has supported), but it is not supported by VMware.

  • vCenter Server Virtual Appliance and Update Manager

  • The upgrade of our guests 5.0 ESXi and vCenter Server 5 and 5.5 Enterprise Plus

We are the 4 upgrade hosts of ESXi 5 to 5.5

We add 4 more guests with own ESXi 5.5 installed

We are also upgrading our vCS 5 in the vCSA 5.5

    Using Enterprise + licenses

Question: I'm trying to understand the best way to achieve this transition.  4 guests run about 100 virtual machines and 4 guests we add are clean slates.

That's what I think... Please help me guys

    1. once the 4 new hosts are installed in the Datacenter clean running ESXi 5.5 I will deploy the vCSA ovf and register 4 guests with the Linux-based device.

    2. now, I have 4 new 5.5 ESXi hosts registered and running with vCSA 5.5 but I still have my old 4 guests with ESXi 5 and registered to the old vCS about 100 virtual machines running WIndows

    3. at this point I think stop on my older hosts 4 virtual machines and remove them from the vCenter Server inventory Windows and everything just their registration with the new vCSA

    4. Will be all my virtual machines or transferred with the hosts if I close them and put the hosts in maintenance mode?

    5. now, I should have all 8 guests registered with my new vCSA.  But the original 4 hosts have yet to be upgraded to ESXi 5.5

6 move 100 virtual machines to the new 4 hosts running ESXi 5.5 and upgraded the 4 former hosts.

    7. now, I should have 8 guests with ESXi 5.5 using the vCSA

    See you soon!

    Pretty much.

To make things easier, you can deploy the EGGS for vCSA in your current vCenter (if I remember correctly import an OVA using vCenter allows you to set certain options that should be set to the vCSA shell). After making sure that the vCSA online & configured, you can then install ESXi on all your new hosts, add them to a cluster in the vCSA and put a few trials of virtual machines on there to confirm the network setting is configured correctly. Once it's done (and assuming that the old and the new hosts use the same shared storage) you can stop the vCSA, remove it stock Windows vCS, please write it on one of your new hosts and turn on. You have now two environments (5.0 and 5.5). Next if you disconnect a host from 5.0 vCS (with virtual machines running on it), you can then connect it to the vCSA 5.5. Assuming that the vSwitchs standard networking of the exchanges that are the same name in both environments, you now can vMotion VMs between host 5.0 and 5.5 cluster. At this time, you can repeat with all remaining hosts until everything has been made the transition without service interruption. This will leave a lot of old objects in your old 5.0 vCS, but if that is getting trashed it isn't a big deal.

In order to run the 64-bit clients, you need to enable 'VT - x' in the system BIOS. In addition to this I also recommend you activate "Execute Disable Bit" and - if necessary - disable "VT - d" as well as "Trusted Execution". Once done, save the BIOS settings and the power of the system (power power off) cycle. If this does not resolve the problem, thanks for posting the latest vmware.log of the virtual machine.

  • vCenter Server 5.1 fresh install database MSSQL w/box

    Hi all

Looking for advice on how best to manage a new installation of vCenter Server 5.1 using a MSSQL database out of area.  Have done some research and looked at some of the videos that are out there, but have not found quite what I'm looking for.  So, I thought I would post.  Be gentle - I'm a bit new to the vMware environment.

Here's my scenario.  And if there is a link/doc/post/video that covers what I'm after - very well.  Looking for a little help on searching for it.  If this isn't the case, direct responses will be fantastic.

-Need to build a 5.1 vCenter server and use a MSSQL off the coast of the MessageBox database.  Out the door, I started with 6 guests and 24 guests, which, as I understand it, is just a little bigger than SQL Express can handle.  And the footprint of the host/guest is likely to increase over time.

-Have available to build the DB MSSQL 2008 R2 cluster on.

-My company has vMWare/vCenter existing deployments, but my particular scenario is going to be a unique and independent facility.

-ESXi hosts will be 5.0 update 1 (to stay in our internal model of best practices).

-vCenter maybe 5.1 for purposes of property management.

-Also need to run the Update Manager, as I understand it, kind of excludes the version 'device' vcenter, or at the very least, a little complicated.

-Leaning towards the Simple installation of vCenter 5.1.  Know that this will launch the single sign on the server, the inventory Service and the vCenter Server installed.  And that the installation of the Update Manager will be a 4th installation (and hopefully last).

Where I am a little confused:

-Discrete databases how should I really?  A school of thought (and practical in our 'other' vMWare environment) is 1 DB for each app on Cree.  This seems a bit complicated, but if this is the way it must be, so be.

-I think I can run only a database and each of the 4 required applications would build/use the necessary table space they need.  Is this correct or am I far from base?

-1 single database, if feasible, should I use a master service flavoured AD account for everything, or should I watch different service AD for different functions accounts.

Not quite sure I'm being quite clear on what I'm after, fire so far with follow-up if necessary issues.

1 DB for SSO, 1DB for VC and 1 DB for MUV.

SSO DB needs to execute scripts (in your search for ISO for scripts to prepare your SQL DB:(:\Single Sign On\DBScripts\SSOServer\schema\mssql))

The inventory service has its own DB.

  • vCenter Server upgrade to version 5.0

    Hello

I would like to know during the upgrade to vCenter Server 5.0 calls a new license key or he use of the existing version license key.

I have vCenter Server 4.1 installed so Standard 6 hosts ESXi 4.1 installed with vSphere Enterprise Plus licenses each with 2 CPU. I plan to upgrade my environment of virtualization to vCenter Server 5.0 and vSphere Enterprise Plus 5.0, please someone can me brief on conditions of license - can I use the vCenter 4.1 existing licenses vSphere 4.1 upgrade to version 5.0, so I don't want to buy new licenses.

Hoping to receive information about my queries.

    Kind regards

    Nikhil

No, not if you have a valid support and subscription.

You must visit the portal of licenses to upgrade the license (I think).

I myself did last week and I'm sure that even if I already had a job entirely vCenter 4.1, I was required to enter the new license v5.0 file.

  • Pass VCenter Server 4.1 local storage a SAN?

This can be a bit of a lame question but here goes anyway.

I have a virtual installled VCenter Server 4.1 on the ESX 4.0 host server's local database. We do not have all the features HA or vmotion, just the basics. Due to incompatibility with the new MD3220 iSCSI SAn us just installed, I need to upgrade ESX 4.0 host to ESXi 4.1 which will need a rebuild. I'd like to rebuild the vCenter server if possible.

We have a server ESXi 4.1 production and (2) iSCSI San. Is it possible for me to move the vCenter server in one of the pools of shared iSCSI San storage and if so, can I I attach to the vCenter from the host ESXi 4.1 existing?

Or am I the vCenter Server to scrubbing and start over?

    Stop the VM vCenter.

Then use the vSphere client to connect to the host.

    Remove the vCenter inventory VM.

Browser data store allows you to move or copy folder vCenter.

Then re-save again the vmx file.

Turn on the virtual machine and say I_moved.

  • A vCenter Server failure recovery

    Hi all

I'm relatively new to VMware and now find myself with a serious and perplexing problem.  We have a cluster of two ESXi hosts with approximately 20 mV for connections a DVS.  Recently, we noticed that the Server vCenter, who also works as a virtual machine has become inaccessible.  Using the VI Client I reached the host that the vCenter Server is running and found alive, but without a network connection.  Reviewing its network settings, I found that he was still the real network set up but it was not "connected".  I tried to check the 'connected', but would receive enigmatic "caused by 0" error message in the newspaper work.  Tried to restart the server vCenter Server, no change.  Tried to change the setting so that it is turned off, no change.  Finally, I made the tragic decision to remove the connection network altogether and try a new.  Although the deletion went beautifully, but as you can probably guess, I now can't add a network card!  In fact I can make any change for the network adapters from one of my virtual machines due, I guess, to the configuration of the DVS and that, even if they are fortunately pumping packages in and out through their 'data plan', the 'control plan' of the switch DVS is located somewhere in the bowels of the vCenter Server...

My question is the best way to recover my vCenter Server without affecting my virtual machines.  Should I create a new server vCenter Server on a physical server and support clusters with its two hosts?  How this would affect my productions receive VMs? or y at - it an easier way?  What happens if, on the host where my vCenter VM is running, I had to remove one of the network adapters of the DVS back to the simple virtual switch - I was then able to use this network adapter to add to my vCenter Server and get it back up and communicates with the two hosts?

As all my virtual machines are running without problem, I want to ensure I can retrieve my vCenter without negatively impacting on them or do something stupid (yet!).

I am grateful for any light you can on this for me...

    see you soon,

    William

    Hello

You can remove a NIC of the DVS and create a simple switch and change the virtual machine to configure to use this switch.

  • VMware vcenter server woes

    Hey guys,.

I just installed vcenter server to centralize control of my various installations of vmware server. I have essentially 4 machines I want to follow - 3 all running the same debian installation and last version of vmware server (free). the 4th is a windows 2003 machine that runs the latest vmware server too.

I installed vmware infrastructure without problem, no error. iStart it upward, add a data center. add my first host - a linux host. works very well. I add a second host - another host.as of linux, I am setting up I get the summary of correct host and it lists even the virtual machines that are on the machine. It ends, says being synchronized to the top and then I get the dreaded "host type is not supported, or added to a cluster, but does not support the features of clusters.

strange. am I adding as a cluster? I don't think so... I add windows machine and he adds without any problem. a linux server that I managed to add shows no information to the title of memory/CPU usage of the virtual machines, it is all 0. therefore graphics of performance - no graphics.

    what the hell is happening?

    Interesting - to - http://www.vmware.com/products/server/faqs.html

Can I manage VMware Server 2 output using a new or existing VMware vCenter Server version?

No, VMware Server 2 can be managed by VMware vCenter Server 2.5.  There is no option of centralized management (stream) for VMware

    Server 2.

You do the impossible or maybe have found a hdden feature-

  • vCenter Server 5.5 requires a reboot

    Hi all

We need to restart vCenter Server 5.5, and it is running on a physical server and also hosting DB SQL on the same physical server.

Please let us know what precautions to take before restarting the vCenter server.

    Kind regards

    Ajay

You can restart the vCenter server as you would any other server system.

Once the server is online. Verify SQL service, vCenter, all are running.

As you run SQL locally, then it would be preferable to set the delayed start for vCenter server service and vCenter management services.

While the SQL service start first, then the vCenter services.

as usual, you can take backup of SQL DB or windows system state backup, but this is not a sine qua non for vCenter reboot.
