Why can't share tv recorded between 2 vista media center machines?

TV registered on a machine can not be played on the other on a cable network even if the files can be shared, & have read/write permissions.

Hi foxprints.

Which edition of Windows Vista you are running on your system? Both the same?

We must have the group policy in the editions of Vista that is present only in Vista Ultimate.

But I can suggest a solution here and you can try to see if it works.

NOTE: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

322756 how to back up and restore the registry in Windows: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

To change the strategy of group stuff use regedit and go to:

\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManSe rver\Parameters\NullSessionShares {HKEY_Local_Machine}

If NullSessionShares there is not add that I did as a multiple string and Add TV recorded in this list.

Also go to the {HKEY_Local_Machine} \System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\RestrictAnonymous
and make sure that who is disabled.

I've been using Windows Vista Media Center as my main way to watch and record the TV, music, and Photos for a few years (shortly after Windows Vista came out).

Since January 1, 2013, the program guide showed no data.

I believe that this is because the Microsoft agreement with the broadcasting of the Data Services to the United Kingdom is exhausted.

What is Microsoft doing about this?

Can what steps I take to restore my Media Center if you work?

    Hello Nikki Locke,

That's great, that you have found a solution. However, you can view the following information.

  • Cannot play movies/recorded shows in Windows Media Center on Windows 7

Three years ago I bought a Sony laptop with Vista and an external tuner ATI so that with a CableCARD, I could use Windows Media Center to record shows/movies. I recently bought a new PC with Windows 7 and found that the Windows 7 PC cannot read the 500 films/shows that have been saved and the new Windows 7 recorded shows can be played by the Vista laptop. Is any way to convert or run natively these shows that have been saved under the WMC?

    Hi RalphGreenlee,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

If I understand correctly, you are unable to play back movies recorded in windows media center.

Looks like the file cannot not supported by Media Center or you need a codec to right.
What type of video file format?
Also check the videos if there are other formats to the choice other than the one you have now.

    Method 1:
    Step 1:
Indicate the file types supported by Windows Media Center:
Types of files supported by Windows Media Center:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/file-types-supported-by-Windows-Media-Center
    Step 2:
Try using a good set of codecs and then try to burn video files.

  • Vista Media Center loses tv recording titles

I just opened my Vista Media Center and - despite my existing TV accessible and playable records - most of them have lost their title information and description of the program. Only program time and the recording time is displayed.

I checked the "raw" files on my hard drive and they are all ok.

Any ideas how to retrieve the details?

  • Windows vista media center does not I can uninstall and reinstall?

Windows vista Media Center has been installed, but will not respond. How can I fix this problem?

    Hello

    You cannot uninstall or reinstall

    Try this:

    Run the sfc/scannow command.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally madeprograms,Accessories, right-clickguest, and then clickrun as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or clickallow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions

    Hello

If you have an XP disk and license, you can go back to XP

but make sure that the manufacturer of your computer has XP drivers available for this model computer

If you have not an XP license try to buy one at a computer repair shop

you boot from the XP disc and format in this way:

to boot from the dvd drive to be able to you will see a way to get into the bios Setup at the bottom of the screen or command menu start

It would be F2 or delete etc to enter the BIOS or F12 etc. for the start menu

Change boot order it do dvd drive 1st in the boot order

I move the mouse, and if by chance I managed to get the pointer of the mouse under a button he highlites and I can then press the mouse button and it will work, but the mouse pointer is invisible.

Among other things, this suggests to disable 'Traces of the mouse', if you have it on might work.

  • Records of Vista Media Center starts and stops at the wrong time

I use Windows Vista Home Premium, SP1 and that you may have noticed that when I schedule recordings for some a particular channel, Media Center starts 2 minutes beforehand and ends 2 minutes in advance.  This affects only shows record from my local affiliate Fox - all other shows for other strings start and stop at the appropriate time.

I checked the system clock with the start times of the shows and both are correct.  In fact, I saw one day Media Center started to record for a show that did not begin until 08:00 at 19:58 (according to the system time).  I had my TV on at the same time and was able to verify that the program in question had not yet begun, so the flow of the internet was sychned with the dissemination of local transmission.

It's very frustrating because I miss the end of some shows and cannot always extend registration ends because I'm ordering another channel, the next hour.

I have the same problem with the FOX network...

-1 make sure your clock automaticly sets in the internet and update once by pressing the link (which makes that he can see the time server)...

There are two ways you can go with this:

-If your departure time is correct, then just go to the Planner and choose the program (or series) you are trying to install, select the recording settings (or adjustment of series) or advanced setting... There is an option to "stop recording" 1 min, 2 min, 3 min, 5 min, until 2 hours after the recording is finished... I have mine set to 5 minutes after, and she fixed it...

-If the starting time is disabled (as mine is), to enter ERM and manuver to tasks > settings > TV > recorder > recorder defaults

This is where you define all the flaws of the recorder, find "Start when possible" and "Stop when possible", 4 min value (max allows MCE)... Save and exit, restart the machine too...

You should be good to go...

PS, I just read the last sentence in your post, you must only have a tv tuner card in your machine (I have two, and that's the reason why I bought two), so you can always have a problem when recording two different channels (back to back on the same channel should work okay).

  • question re. records programmed in windows media Center

I want to record a tv using Windows Media Center (WMC) series. I configured the tuner, WMC and took the series to record using the guide. My question is: what I must have WMC running in the background for the scheduled to start recording, or WMC itself will start at the right time? In addition, it will start my laptop? in other words, can I just turn off my cell phone (to save energy) and let and WMC invites you to my computer to start up and/or start WMC when programmed recording? Thank you!

The laptop doesn't have to be on, but if it isn't then it must be in mode 'sleep'. If you do a full closed then media library will not be able to restart the laptop, but it can be awakened from sleep mode.
