Why Firefox uses 496 MB memory?

According to my virus protection, AVG, I routinely used some memory when I use Firefox. Is this true and if so, can I reduce the memory usage?

  • Why firefox uses so much memory?

For several months, Firefox has eaten memory like crazy. Once I get more than 5 tabs open or that you have Firefox running for more than an hour, the memory usage hit about a GB. If I continue to let go beyond that, it will hit 1.5 to 2 GB and it made my gel set office. I got to keep the Task Manager and every hour or so just kill Firefox and restart. Preventing it from crashing my whole desktop computer. It's definitely worse when I opened Google products, especially maps and Docs. GMail is generally OK.

I tried to disable literally every add-on and Extension (including Flash and Adblock).

I'm on Windows 7, I have 4 GB of RAM installed. I am on version 40.0 Firefox, but this has happened through a few updates now (I think the problem started around March or April). I also tried to back - rev Firefox and go to the latest version, that I had before the problems started, but that did nothing either.

Chrome works fine on this machine without any similar problems - but I prefer Firefox!

I can see it in the list of Add-ons, but how can I run?

He did not appear in the list customize. I reinstalled, and it still does not appear. However, I found on another site this statement, which worked: type about: addons-memory in the address of a new tab bar and it runs. Thank you for your response.

Hi apdubois, it is useful to know that Flash is the problem but, as you point out, life without Flash is not very interactive.

It is a standard orientation that addresses the most common reasons for problems of Flash in Firefox. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:

    (1) make sure that all recorders/downloaders who interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.

    (2) disable graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox and Flash

    (A) in Firefox, uncheck the box here and restart:

the button Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) > Options > advanced > General > "use hardware acceleration when available.

    (B) in Flash, see this article from Adobe technical support: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

    (3) turn off protected mode (Windows Vista/7/8)

See this article from Adobe support under the heading of 'Last resort': Adobe Forums: how to fix protected Flash Player for Firefox mode?

  • Why Firefox spell-check using non-English and American spelling.

Everytime I type something and use a word that can be spelled differently in English and American, Firefox always pointed out my spelling English red, which means that the spelling is incorrect when it is not incorrect, it highlights the fact that I should use the spelling American. for example '

When I type COLOR which is the English spelling, it is highlighted in red.

If I type COLOR it is pointed out that he said is correct but it's the American spelling and I don't want to use the American spelling.

That's why Firefox uses the American spelling and I DON'T WANT my emails to companies wishing to be entered in the American language, if I lived in America, so be it, but I live in England and to use English thank you very much.

Right-click in a text entry box and go to 'Language', then 'Add Dictionaries' (if you don't see this option, make sure that you have "Check spelling" checked). You will be redirected to a page containing a list of dictionaries. Add your favorite like any normal module language. Once installed, right click in an area of new text entry & select 'Language', then the newly installed dictionary.

    Hello Beth.

I must inform you that (as directed by your user agent string), you use Internet Explorer 8 for the moment, not Firefox. I hope that you are aware of this.

On the toolbar, you sure it's the download which is the problem and not the installation? The toolbar may be browser specific (for example, it can work only on Internet Explorer), so if it is the facility that gives you trouble, you should contact the author of the toolbar for support.

If it is the download that is problematic, you can have a problem with an extension or plugin that is an obstacle to the normal behavior of your Firefox. Have you tried to disable all add-ons (just to see) to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

  • Why Firefox 31 change all icons PDF and open in browser, require a fix by using REGEDIT to set for all USERS on a computer?

The solution to use REGEDIT in the question linked below almost fixed my problem with PDF files on more than 30 computers with multiple users on each computer:
    https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/questions/1013642

But I need to fix for all users on a computer without logging on each account on each computer. My challenge was to log on as an administrator and change the following key of the overall system instead:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.PDF

    Name: by default
    Type: Reg_SZ
    Data: FirefoxHtm

    Changed FirefoxHtm to AcroExch.Document.11 data

I use Adobe Reader XI on Win7 Pro 64-bit machines.
The problem started when I ran a file downloaded to install the new version of Firefox on computers.

Why Firefox would require me to use REGEDIT in this way to solve the problem?

This only happens when you set Firefox as the default browser and Firefox thinks that there is currently no application PDF file handles.

  • Why Mozilla Firefox uses Google as their search on the web if Google stores everything we look for?

Why Mozilla Firefox use Google as their search engine if Google stores everything you are looking for and tracking what you do online? I have nothing against Firefox, I wonder why.

This partnership is as old as Firefox itself, but each user can use any search engine they cars not to use - no reason, you should use Google simply because it is the default in Firefox.

The search engines in the search bar can be removed.

The search engine used in the Awesome Bar can be changed through subject: config.

The search engine on the subject: home page can be changed, although not as easily as with the Awesome Bar.

As to 'why', who knows? When Google offered to help Mozilla with financial support through their search engine is the search engine by default for Firefox, Mozilla had to say no to something that any other search engine is also at this time?

  • AVG says using too much memory because multiple firefox is open, but I only see one.

AVG regularly analyzes in the background. Lately he has demonstrated a popup window that says multiple applications of Firefox are running and using too much memory, so I should close some. But I can only see 1. Tried CTRL ALT DEL to see if I could find the answer, but only showed 1 firefox, and that he used more than 28 000. So I think that AVG is correct, but does not know how to see what who or where they are. They DO NOT display in the lower menu on the main screen, so I guess they are in the background. Do not have the virus, and Firefox, regularly updates itself. What should I do to fix?

    Hi cmich80220.
It is true, that you should only be able to run only one instance of Firefox at the same time. I searched but could not find someone else with a similar problem. If the problem comes back to Firefox running slowly, you can consult this article for troubleshooting:

    Hope that helps.

Why Firefox has disabled the only version of Flash (10.1.53.64) my computer can use? (Mac PowerPC G5) Help!

Your computer hardware has arrived at the stage where most of the software needs resources your machine cannot provide because it's too old. You have a few choices.

    1. Get new hardware that can handle the latest software
    2. Use a different operating system, like Linux (which is free)

I rehabilitated an old G5 recently and it runs very well in the latest Firefox. I put Lubuntu on the machine instead the MacOS. Lubuntu (pronounced Loo-boon-two) is sort of a Ubuntu lite - a user-friendly version of Linux. There are many applications of your choice, and everything is free.

You can also use the Ubuntu greediest in resources and a little more user-friendly, also free, but you can be more pleased with the performance of Lubuntu instead.

The PowerPC, I did this on was one of the old blue Bondi ones. Firefox 8 had no problem to start on it at all and has all necessary plug-ins for video, audio, etc... I gave him a church and it works well for them.

You can download older versions of Firefox, but you'll just open to security problems if you do.

FYI: The Mac operating system is based on Linux.

I thought it would be FAFSA is causing your problem.

Install Portable Firefox 3.6.x on your hard drive to a Web site. This will not affect any of your current Firefox installation.

  • Why Firefox tries to open the PDF with Acrobat 8 when I set properties using Reader 9.1?

If I click on a link in a PDF file from Firefox 3.6.10 he's trying to open it with Acrobat 8 and breaks down, while if I double-click on a folder it opens properly with Reader 9.1

If I try to open with Acrobat 8 for the record, he does not either, but why Firefox does not use the default program?

Go to tools | Options | Applications. The first 4 entries focus on Adobe. Make sure that the association is your version 9.1. If this is not the case, click on the association that shows. You will get a triangle pointing downwards to the right. Click it, and then check if 9.1 is displayed. If so, select it. Do the same for the other elements of Adobe.

You can also check the "Folder Options" in the control panel. In the tab "File Types", you will find all file extensions and the programs with which they are associated. Scroll to the PDF extension and make sure that it is associated with a "Document of Adobe Acrobat. If this is not the case, click the < button > and find adobe in the programs list.

Just to let you know, Adobe Reader is now up to version 9.4. You can go to the Adobe website to download the latest version.
