  I just got my key USB recovery flash in the mail from HP.  I have an ENVY 15 t-j100 Quad and I had accidentally wiped the OS off the coast of the SSHD.  I go into the BIOS, change the boot order, even tried disabling and enabling legacy mode secure boot and I get the same error once I have tell the laptop to boot with the USB key.  He comes up with an error cscript.exe and says that it is impossible to write in the C: disk because it is write protected.  I can cancel, try again or continue, but the laptop stops just after these buttons.

  I had set up the SSHD acceleration and 24 GB cache in a RAID0 configuration, as if it was before I wiped the OS.  Apparently, which caused the error, because recovery what USB works fine once I reset both drives non-RAID configurations.  I'll be able to put back them in a RAID0 once the OS is installed?

  I bought a 16GB Kingston DataTraveler 112 USB key so I could copy the recovery as a backup image. He acknowledged the USB key and showed that the recovery image has been slightly more than 11 GB. But when he started to format the USB key, it returns to the previous screen and asking more of the car. At the bottom of the screen, he said to contact the HP Support, but it gives me an error message. Now when I try the Recovery Manager it does not recognize the USB at all.

I have 5 other USB drives, but they are all small, except a 32 GB Kingston DT101 G2 which does not work on this computer, even if it worked on my old computer (Pavilion w/Vista Home Premium) without problem.   Operating system is Windows 8.1 64-bit on the desktop HP Pavilion 500 - A60. I tried the problem that USB keys in all 4 ports (2.0 and 3.0). Also in that I plug into a port to give me 3 USB ports, also used on my previous computer.

  Is it possible that this computer does not recognize Kingston or some other brands of USB thumb drives?

  The trick to this is to use a USB 2.0 port and use a non-windows 8 certified thumbdrive. If the USB flash drive shows as a 'removable device' there should be no problem in the use of the media to create a recovery media

  I own a couple of DataTraveler flash drives and had the same lack of success, creation of recovery media that you did. I have had zero success with 3.0 of Sandisk Extreme usb flash drives

  However my laptop Dell Inspiron has only USB 3.0 ports so when I try to boot on the USB it tells me: "cannot find the image of system recovery. "If you try to restore your pc from a USB 3.0 (blue) USB Port please connect to another USB Port, restart your PC and try Recovery.

  If my laptop has no former USB 2 ports and, apparently, Windows 7 doesn't come with native support USB 3 so how can I re - install my system using the USB that I made Dell Datasafe Local backup?

  I tried to make a set of Dell Datasafe DVD, but it is not I think that there is a bug in the routine of Datasafe Local Backup DVD recovery media.

  Am I better off Dell asking to send me a re-installation OEM DVD set? How would I do that?

• USB key used in iMac unrecognized by any other device

  Hi all, I recently encountered a problem using USB keys with my iMac 2010 10.11.3 running OSx.

  My iMac will recognize UBS sticks and allow me to save documents and files for them, but when I insert into any other device (e.g. a few friend PC and Macs, professional printers to Officeworks etc.) the USB stick is not recognized and does not see the same on their system.   Then when I insert the USB in my iMac, it is recognized immediately as well as its content.

  Before that, I was able to share files and documents with family, friends and clients on USB with no problems at all.

  I tried a variety of different USB keys (old and new) and what is happening to all of them, whatever the brand, age, size, etc.   Is produced only for a few months and at first I was in denial and thought that it was my friend PC, but now I see that it is certainly a problem with my iMac.  He may have started happening around the same time that when I upgraded to IE Captain earlier this year.

  Any ideas please?

  I've updated directly to Windows Pro 8.1, my Sony VAIO VPCEH2LGX. He was originally with Windows 7 Pro. I know in Win 7, there is a specific order of installation direver in order for the Fn button work, but on 8 to win, I'm not sure. I tried everything, all the solutions I could find on the community, but nothing worked. FN key only works with F2, F3 and F4 (volume change), but with others, it does not work. I can change the brightness in the settings manually, but not with the Fn key.

  Also, I have another problem, VAIO update, when I click on update, it is not updated at all, just runs and runs, but no updates, it is locked to 'install' forever.

  Thanks for understanding, I hope there is a solution for this.

  Update:

  Solved. -J' installed the original utilties laptop (with the Vaio Control Center), then put the control center VAIO drivers for Windows 8, and now it works.

  -My guess is, if you see in the control center VAIO, for the mouse that can be disabled and for the management of the supply function, then the FN keys must work, because the fn uses VAIO Control Center in order to work properly.
