Why has it antivirus analyze more data on hard drive files?

I have always noticed that when I run a full scan of my system, the antivirus scans files that sum up to more than the data in my hard drive.
Like when I run a full scan of my antivirus shows (7.0 free Avast) it has scanned 59 GB while the total used space in my hard disk is about 53 GB.

It could be analyzed another partition in addition to your C: drive. Most computers have some recovery partitions, so even if not create you another partition, the recovery partition could be what he adds to the analysis.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

  • DV7-4280us - Bay of disk HARD 2nd vacuum has no visible connection to a 2nd HARD drive.

My laptop Pavilion DV7 and previous DV8 had two bays for HARD drives, one of them wired to a hard drive, but not containing is not a hard disk at the time of purchase.  I expect the same thing when I ordered this Pavilion DV7-4280us, which is, I think, made in China, but I have not the same.  This one came without visible connectors for the hard drive, I had already bought to install into the empty Bay.  My Technical Support call made me advice to buy a disc kit hard (with caddy & connections) from HP, as if the receive connectors were available in the drive Bay HARD vacuum.  I didn't not agree because (and the next two paragraphs I added so that the well-intentioned forum members continue to give me the standard answer for laptops which actually have the usual connectors & waiting in the drive Bay HARD 2nd vacuum.  I appreciate the two forum members who have offered help so far, but there is no need to waste more based on my failure to clarify the problem):

There is NO METAL NAKED INTO THE BAY VOID that COULD CONNECT a HARD disk.
UNLESS A NEW CONNECTOR GOES TO THE MOTHERBOARD HARD DRIVE, IT IS USELESS FOR THIS COMPUTER.

Each HARD drive connector I've seen only connects the HARD drive to a connector in the HARD drive Bay.

The connector of the latter reaches the motherboard, and that the connector does not exist in this 2nd computer HARD disc Bay.

Even if I could get a cable to connect a HARD drive to an unused connection & waiting on the M-Board, I can't M-Board.  M-Board is inside a barrier which could be called the bottom of the laptop - external surface of the portable computer.  (Battery and bays for HARD drives are outside the confines of the current computer, the value in their own hollow spaces in the bottom panel, with secondary coverage on the hollow spaces, i.e. the bays for HARD drives and storage media).  I looked for a way really open the casing and expose the M-Council connection for 2nd HARD drive (IF it exists); but I didn't know how to do it.  It is clear to me that this is not intended to be a facility run by the user. But I would if HP (or maybe even a 3rd party who made it) provided some good instructions.

I'd like to think that HP did not make this change to the line DV7 laptops to double HARD drive, and that the Chinese manufacturer made the change without approval or even knowledge of the management of HP.  I want to believe that because he was, at best, a really stupid thing for HP to the customers who pay for the best HP can provide.

So my questions are the following:

    1. The motherboard in this computer still has the ability to manage a 2nd hard drive?
    2. If 'NO', then HP would be willing to take over this very disappointing computer in Exchange to a DV7 which is equipped with HARD drive connectors available in the 2nd, empty, Bay?
    3. If 'YES', then
    4. HP or someone else would be willing to provide connectors, and instructions for me,
    5. OR install the missing connection to the drive for me, Bay
    6. While, in both cases 4 or 5, I can install a HARD drive in the Bay, empty 2nd drive reasonably, I expected when I ordered this computer?

All my apologies and thanks to KaLin0908, who responded so quickly and helped me realize that my original description was not clear enough.  I hope that my changes to clarify the problem have not ruined the tone of my call.  I'm aiming for "clear and grateful."  If this revision reads as Loud or Yelling or abrasive or anything else bad, I'd appreciate any suggestions to improve it.

    I have the same computer.

At first seems like you say but

If you look carefully the second Bay of hd, you will see 4 small holes

Those who are for the hard drive caddy, you can buy that and it's expensive

You should also buy a hd cable, but be careful, there must be about 5 inches long

The cable for 1 hard disk does not work

One end goes on the hard drive and the other going to the MB. The connection is planned

    for the memory modules

The kit costs about $ 45. If bought at hp and about 35 if purchased by another company

  • Why my data Ext Hard Drive WORD & EXCEL from my old computer does not recognize my new computer with Windows 7.

Recently, I replaced an old computer running Windows XP with a newer computer of Windows7.

I have TWO Toshiba external hard drives 2... one of them (Mdl HDDR250E03X) is used for external backup of data on my computer.  I started using it for my old computer that was running on Windows XP.  Due to a Trojan infection, I had to buy a new computer running Windows 7.  I thought that the hard drive is simply a plug-and-play device, BUT my new computer has not recognized that there is a device plugged until someone suggested that I make a change in the Device Management section (which only works at Midway).  My new computer now sees that the drive is there, BUT the data displayed under a name of file/folder (dec22a69bbd43e6966c9935e4720f7).  Data include WORD files, EXCEL files and .jpg files.  When I click on this long file/folder name, I get a long list of records as well as other unknown files that I don't recognize.  Inside each of the files is the SAME set of files (EULA, LocalizedData and SetupResources.dll.  When I try to save a WORD or EXCEL file on this disk, I tells me that the drive is empty, then the path and destination does not allow me to record anything.  I suspect that the problem lies in the Windows 7 software to recognize the hard drive but, I'm totally new to this Windows 7.  Everyone recognizes what is the problem?   I KNOW that the data is always there because I ran my virus on this single drive software and I could see many file names as they were read.

    Hello DuaneMeyer,

What are you help save external hard disk?
It is built in the backup part OS backup software or a 3rd?

  • HP rigged rules so won't respect its commitments, has no contract of service on 2 hard drives

After 1 hour on phone, level 1 confirmed the message in the BIOS ' disk hard imminent failure "actually meant what he said and had this motherboard needs to be replaced. After 1/2 hour more level 2 certified HD warranty replacement, refused the motherboard. They signed me for an extension of one year warranty with home service for $129.99.

Quickly sent replacement. Taken to professional it is Geek Squad that tried 3 times to clone the old drive again before the former has failed. Then they tried a clean install from the recovery disks provided by HP and after failed it in these attempts, tried to install Win7 clean. Had this 'new' message (refurb) 1 TB SATA would fail imminent, could not install OS. Gave me some documents. I called HP, waited in line 1 1/2 hours Saturday to report the problem to HP, abandoned and bought new, better HD, had installed and HP recovery/installed operating system - $180. Back-ups and system image I did with Toshiba Canvio impossible to install Windows and Norton, if old hard drive must have messed up the back-ups.

Called HP for permission to return the replacement HD, but also original failed HD has DENIED! Said they must run a diagnosis by phone, do not accept the documentation of Geek Squad. I offered to send back to them at my own expense while they could confirm that it was defective. Said no, couldn't accept it back until the diagnosis ran (he was sitting on my desk!). I asked if ok to mechanically destroy the data on the old HD to protect my privacy. They said no, they will work revised at HP to confirm it was defective. So I said, let me send you the replacement for HP can confirm that it is defective. They said not until the phone confirmed diagnosis it was defective. So, I asked that I use my warranty in home service on this NEW problem. They said wouldn't not allow as not in effect until Nov 9. I said, I'll call Nov 9, and request the service. They said that it is only determined telephone assistance that it worked. So I said, the extended warranty. They said no, he started immediately after purchase. I said fine, send someone to the House. Catch-22.

So, here is the best plan I can get to: 1) I'll send my drive down back home so that I will not be charged for replacement under warranty, 2) I will send the replacement drive to Meg Whitman, CEO of HP, memory of my experience with HP customer care, 3) {deleted content: legal discussion} and 4) will be posting my experience on each consumer and social media Web site (, I can find and 5) ask my credit card company to prohibit fees for the service contract. WARNING: this message contains no criticisms, judgments or threats - I just simply my experience, i.e. "what I did with my"free time"and"discretionary cash"of the last two weeks.

BOUGHT NEW COMPUTER WINDOWS 10, CHANGED ITUNES MEDIA LOCATION FOR EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. THE MUSIC DOES NOT APPEAR ON ITUNES.

Changing the iTunes media folder location setting affects only where new additions to your library will be stored.  To use a disk external drive to store your library complete (and assuming that you have access to the original data of the library on an old computer) you must copy the iTunes folder, by default in C:\Users\username\Music, on the external drive - structure library and its records should be like this:

  • Can I restore my laptop hard drive files that have been moved to my external hard drive (who subsequentally has stopped working)?

I cut and pasted and then a few important files from my laptop on an external hard drive. Since the external hard drive stopped working. Is it possible to find the files that have been moved?

    Thank you!

(More info: I tried to recover the files from external hard disk but it requires a physical recovery and would cost over $ 1000, which I did not; also unfortunately I don't think I created backup via the "backup and Restore Center" files in the control panel).

It depends on how long you have moved the files, and how the computer has been used since.

If you have Vista Business, Ultimate or enterprise, you can use the previous versions.

  • Security of the data to hard drive replaced under warranty

My laptop is fixed by virtue of the extended due to a hard drive failure warranty. HP has no problem, replace the defective drive. However, I asked that they return the drive failed for me, because it contains personal data and I want to make sure it is properly destroyed. They refuse to send me the original drive, unless I have pay $290 for it. Otherwise they will simply ship the laptop to me not repaired.

I am very hurt to her comfortable while simply trust that the reader will be well destroyed. I hear too many stories on data personal discs playing in landfills or elsewhere. I don't know that it would happen to HP, but then I don't know it won't, either, and it is not a value of potential risk.

Does anyone know what HP is doing to "destroy" a hard drive? Alternatively, anyone has any advice on how to convince HP to return my hard drive of origin for no additional cost, as it should be without me having to jump through hoops?

I can assure you that all personal data is secure when HP parts for refurbished devices used. HP treats thousands of thousands of pieces per day. Unless your failed hard drive is labeled "TOP SECRET" noone will give him a second glance. It merely add to the line, dismantled and the parties go into hp quality tests where they create parts for refurbished devices. The trays are too sensitive for them to be swapped around without a clean room. They are destroyed. probably thrown in a dumpster somewhere. Once that any type of dust gets on the trays the discs are unreadable, even if they have been good before he was saying-assembled. It is not cost-efficiant to slow production just to get the trays on a hard drive in a clean room. It is easier to throw away them and have a machine to replace

  • Transfer rate slow during the transfer of data on HARD drive

I tried to solve this problem, but if I found similar questions, I have found no valid solution.

I transfer files on a windows 8OS my Transcend hard drive. He has connections USB 2.0 and 3.0.

whenever I try to transfer files on the hard drive, it works very well and quickly up to 5%. As soon as the copy of the file reaches 5%, speed decreases rapidly until it reaches 375 kbps and flows to 0 before returning to 375 kbps, always not to transfer any data whatsoever.

I tried a few solutions without satisfactory results.

I tried to transfer files on the pc or the pc itself to check if the problem was on my hard drive also. This is to copy the files fine and good intra-pc, but fails to copy to the hard drive.

Basically, the computer hangs after completing 5% and stops to copy, although always playing 375 kbps speed, which, even in itself, is too slow...

kindly give me a solution to this weird problem.

    Former title: slow transfer HDD

    Thank you for your response.

It has proved to be a slightly different problem, and if you're interested, the problem was something with the interface between the computer and the hard drive via the usb port.

When I connected the hard drive to the USB behind the cpu, it worked perfectly fine.

I do not know too well, I understand the problem, but I'm glad that's solved.

    Thank you for your attention.

  • Recovering data from hard drives of laptop data

    1. laptop computer work with a hard drive to work (I know that this is the case if you insert the disc of the laptop, it works, it loads windows xp, you can use the laptop according to the normal without errors / problems etc.)

We have a disk external drive kit (again I know works as I use to connect to a multitude of other hard drives via the USB port of a desktop PC) and I have another kit to different hard drive for the first USB SATA hard drive recovery kit and it does the same thing when you try to access the data on the hard drive for laptops

If I connect the laptop hard drive to my desktop PC it won't appear in my computer even if you right-click my computer--> manage--> disk management

The drive appears here as not initialized and will fail if you try to initialize the disk indicating there CRC errors and it will not assign a drive letter.

Is there a quick way to access the data on the disk?

As much as I know readers are not encrypted as when loading after the bios POST, you get not all blue / violet loading gauges, this is Windows XP SP 3 so do not use bit locker or something like that.

What should I do to get access to data as quickly as possible without making too many steps or waiting for utils recovering data, etc..

Also, what do Lenovo for the drives causing headaches as much?

Am confused with your part external kits...

In any case, I assume you have a computer laptop lenovo work and office work. You try to connect lenovo's HARD drive in a USB drive kit and extract data from the desktop.

    (1) is the disc encrpted HARD lenovo? Check the Bios and also if lenovo security software are installed.

    (2) the fastest way I'm doing it today is to connect laptops and office to a network. Share the disk, and then extract the data from the laptop or desktop. A second option is remote laptop and retrieves the data.

    (3) another possibility is that your laptop is XP, IE the formatting isn't AHCI (check the bios under sata), it is in compatibility mode. The Office use Vista or Windows 7?

As I have only owned this computer for 2 weeks, I want to make it work again. I know I can get traded locally of the bios chip if necessary. Much dg_hlc thanks

    Hi @dg_hlc!

Personally, I would say to get a new drive if possible because the problems related to the card of the unit are not easy to solve.

Of course, you can try to replace it if you want, but I do not recommend. I'm not saying it, not only because it is an operation not caring and not recommended in general, but especially because the risk to damage further the drive is too big and that the chances of finding an exact match of a PCB are really weak because of differences in the firmware over the years.

The danger is that it can () will have different settings for how align the heads to the tracks on the surface of the physical disk, and when it tries to write anything (which it will) it will result in all current data is erased.

I hope this helps and good luck!

    Hello

    You can not do

the old hard disk contains the drivers for the motherboard that is old and in all likelihood will not start when it is installed with the new motherboard

a clean install is normally required when changing motherboards
