Why is my Mac subject to ssh hacking attempts?

Hello

In recent days, I noticed a lot of messages relating to the hacking attempt of the root via sshd (aka remote connection) account. Here is an article of an attempt of the Console log:

19 Mar 11:54:20 gamimac sshd [2604]: error: PAM: authentication failure for the root of 183.3.202.114 via 192.168.0.4

192.168.0.4 is NAT had a local IP from my Mac. I want to know is how an external IP address can launch a ssh connection via my router when it is has NOT currently configured port forwarding for ANY port as you can see below:

Not having not not an idea how this happens, I stopped sshd on my Mac (Fortunately, I only need ssh * in * machines this machine) and disabled the root user. Any help or insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

DA.

The router can have a framework for a "default host" or "DMZ". All unspecified incoming connections will be forwarded to this host by default.

Looks like it's something on the computer. There are cookies that must be removed individually from the Firefox profile.

To do this, go to the Firefox Menu, tap Preferences, then tap privacy and then delete cookies or cookies see the. You can search the sites that gives you problems and remove them. Restart Firefox.

It could also be that you add a DNS server for your connection. 8.8.8.8 is google, but I don't know if this would affect given that the server is not found, not that there is no link, that's why it does not sound like a connection problem, but a cache problem. • My Mac Mini can be hacked from the Wifi?

    Hello!

I was a proud owner of Mac Mini, less than a week. First of all, I would like to give my gratitude to Apple for creating this wonderful little tool.

But as a long time Windows user, I ran into a problem I can't seem to find an answer to.

I discovered that my Mac had opened a Wifi connection. And as a person, which is used for cables Ethernet (that I use now, too), the Wifi is unknown and not very liked territory.

Was on WiFi, but marked "wifi is turned on, but is not connected to a network.

N00b I am, am a little worried about this new link, began to bite it and found a lot of names, I understand where my neighbors Wifi connections. With my luck, I managed to hurt someone, who do not have their protected Wifi password and found myself suddenly watching "wifi is connected to the android ap and a IP [...]".

I panicked as *, started trying to find a way to get rid of it and seemed finally to delete it after 3 minutes of the curse.

Then, I turned off the wifi and changed to 'inactive' as well.

My apologizes for the long text, but I'd love to hear the opinions of people who are not filled with panic as I am:

    1) when "wifi is turned on, but is not connected to a network", it means it is secure and no one can hack my wifi Mac?

    (2) when I entered accidentally someone another wifi unprotected for a few minutes, my Mac have been compromised?

    And the most important:

    (3) Changing wifi to be 'off' and then 'dormant', am I sure of any wifi hacking back? As there is zero connection wifi and no one outside could enforce on my Mac?

I understand how stupid my questions can and no doubt make sound, but I'm inherently paranoid person and only one in my family, which has a semblance of agreement when it comes to computers, so there is no one to ask.

I would be very grateful if someone could help me,

    Sincerely

    (1) Yes

    (2) No, just don't send any important information on an unprotected WiFi (passwords, credit card numbers etc.)

    (3) Yes

  • Best way to check my Mac has not been hacked?

Have an end 2012 27 "iMac, OS X 10.9.5, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHZ DDR3 & have no idea what that means I'm technically disadvantaged. I get e-mails, mainly from some places that I buy, like Sears, Best Buy, etc., that contain strange characters & symbols in the welcome message that I do not open. I talked to the Geek Squad at best buy and was informed that a person may have gotten in my computer. No no proposed solution. Last month, my credit card has been hacked. I'm trying to find out if there is a connection. What should I do to make sure that my computer has not been violated & is always so sure that Apple can do in these difficult times.

    Thank you, Roger

As usual, the Geek Squad is incorrect. If you get suspicious emails then contact your provider of Internet Service (ISP) and ask for help. If you tend to use the same password for many of your accounts, including your email address and it is fairly easy to understand, then consider changing to a password is more enigmatic, something like * $Merp78@#. A good thing to do is to create separate passwords for each account, and then use a tool such as 1Password to manage all your passwords.

Whatever you do, NEVER install any antivirus, cleaning or any other third party on your Mac maintenance utility. Not only are they 100% worthless they can create havoc for OS X users. If you currently have one of these types of utilities installed please uninstall immediately in accordance with the instructions of developers.

  • Why is the MAC address Clone?

When I disabled it Clone MAC address I lost access to the internet.

Does anyone know why MAC address Clone is necessary and what it does?

Clone MAC address changes the MAC address of the router on the internet port.

You can use the function of the cloning MAC address to clone the MAC address of a computer if you used before your computer directly to the modem.

Some ISPS (especially cable ISPS) only the customers to have an active internet connection at any time. To do this, check the MAC address, that is, they remember the MAC address that accessible line via the modem and lock the connection to this MAC address.

If you test your internet connection directly with your PC first and then connect the router the router can not get an internet connection because the row is locked to the PC's MAC address. Now if clone you the address MAC from the PC on the router the router "pretended" to be PC and the ISP will accept traffic again.

Usually, simply reset or turn on the modem to reset the lock again. Sometimes, you have to turn off the modem for a couple of hours (for example, through the night) after a few hours of inactivity the ISP removes the lock again. Sometimes call the ISP to remove the lock, but it's not very often.

So basically, generally useless clone MAC address at all because you could accomplish the same thing by resetting the modem or it turned off for a few minutes. If you connect the router to the modem, ISP learns the MAC address of the router and it gets working internet connection. (Of course remember, that once a computer directly connected to the modem would not get active internet connection unless you change the MAC address of the computer to the MAC address of the router).

But the function is useful if you do not want to. You simply set the MAC address of the connected device before, and you get a working internet connection.

  • Why D11.5 Mac App Standard projector requires Shockwave Player 11?

I created a review study helps for my students with D11.5 and changed into a Windows executable and an application for Mac users.  I don't select no compression in the settings of the projector and selected drive type: Standard on the tab of the projector. On some computers, studying the Mac App is asking them to Download Shockwave Player 11.  First of all, I created the Mac projector without compression or Shockwave and therefore why he asks the student to download the player.  Second, even when they download and install the new Shockwave Player, which is now up to version 12, he complains that they need to download the reader and the app will not play.   What should I do to solve this problem, so my students with the Mac can use my review help?   Help, please!

In case someone else has this problem, which seems inevitable since there is obviously a bug in the creation of the Mac projector option in Windows.

I was actually able to talk to someone from Adobe on the phone and they suggested to uninstall the Adobe Shockwave Player 12 new and go in the other versions, and install the old Shockwave Player 11.  If you have others using your software and the Mac app starts asking for Shockwave Player 11, here are the instructions that I made for my students solve the problem.  I hope that someone will find them helpful:

    1. click on the Applications folder on the right side of the menu icons at the bottom of your screen.

    2. find the icon of Adobe Shockwave Player in the opened window.

    3. double-click on the icon of Adobe Shockwave Player.  They said that a menu should appear, including the uninstall.

    4. Select uninstall to uninstall Shockwave Player 12 you have downloaded. Now after completing the uninstall:

    5. go to http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/otherversions/

    6. where it says install a different version of Adobe Shockwave Player

Select Macintosh OSX for step 1,

then select Shockwave 11.6.8.638 full for step 2

    7. now click the agreement and now the button install and install

That should fix the problem, but why the .app requires Shockwave Player 11 in the first place since I created the projector without compression of Shockwave.  Of course there is a bug in the application of projector to create for the Mac in the version of Director 11.5 Winodws now as Director 12 was released, which Adobe need to patch.

  • Why is my mac since update el capitanslow wifi ok on the cable

Since then until this day at el capitan slow on wifi ok on cable

A general comment in El Capitan 11.4:

If you need to fix slow WiFi on OS X El Capitan, you may restart your router and modem, unplug them for about 30 seconds to a minute. If this fixed not you can try to disable your wireless on your Mac. Click the WiFi icon, then turn off WiFi. After a minute turn it back on. This can fix many problems.

Other possible fixes, including clicking on open network preferences, and then click Advanced to change the order of your computer must connect, options to remove a WiFi network and much more. Sometimes, deleting a connection and add it again will fix the problem.

  • Why does Firefox (Mac) launch at startup?

I'm on MacOS 10.7.5. It seems that in time, that I've upgraded to Firefox 18, he began to run at startup. I checked that my list of sign in preferences does not Firefox. My general system preferences are not not to restore the windows at startup.

I spent a lot of time on Friday and this morning, solve the problem, including completely removing Firefox and all files related; then reinstall Firefox and by adding modules one by one. I found the source of the problem.

I had installed Bitdefender for Macintosh . It has an anti-phishing module. The anti-phishing module installed in Firefox caused his throw, when I restarted because Bitdefender has launched as part of the start-up procedure. If I simply removed the Firefox anti-phishing module, Firefox would launch wanted me to OK the addition of anti-phishing module. Once I deleted Bitdefender, Firefox has not started at startup. Why this does not happen with Safari, I don't understand. I will report the problem to technical support Bitdefender.

  • Why isn't my subject stay aligned to the pixel grid after the scaling?

All my points are lined up on the grid, but when I step up proportionately they leave the grid. I snap to Pixel and Snap To Pixel Grid both checked.

    blackmath,

    You can see more here,

    https://helpx.Adobe.com/Illustrator/using/drawing-pixel-aligned-paths-Web.html

    This paragraph is very relevant,

Objects that are aligned to pixels, but have not the segments of vertical lines or horizontal, are not changed to match the pixel grid. For example, because a rotated rectangle doesn't have a straight vertical or horizontal segments, it is not pushed to produce crisp paths, when aligned with the pixels property is set for her.

  • Phone call warned that a "hacker" attempts to access my computer.

I just got a phone call indicating that a 'hacker' was trying to acess my Windows operating system.  I was instructed to go to the computer and follow the instructions.  I don't have that.  What is a legal appeal or a scam?

No, it is not legal but an attempt to get to either give someone access to your computer or make you buy a worthless or even dangerous software.

You ask yourself who would call you even if such an attempt has been made. A checking the logs of most firewall routers frequently show "probes" by external connections to a network. Why would they choose you ' help '?
