Why msmpeng.exe consumes all the cpu

Why msmpeng.exe cause my computer lock in place... and consume so much CPU usage... and how can I fix the problem?...

Hi schuylerwoods,

  1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
  2. You have a third-party security software installed on the computer?
  3. When exactly the computer freezes?

Msmpeng.exe process is used by the Microsoft Windows Defender to perform the procedures for scanning of spyware.

It is also possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you configure the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See section to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

  1. Click Start , and then click run.
  2. Type msconfig , and then click OK.
The System Configuration utility dialog box appears.
  3. Click the general tab, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services , and then click OK.
  4. When you are prompted, click restart to restart the computer.

    Any help appreciated. Thank you

    You are welcome.

How about that.  Don't you love it when a plan comes together?  Windows updates only or material for pilots also and then update windows is good, but for a more broad ability of other applications Microsoft, then Microsoft Update and Office update is good for a shopping for updates of every Microsoft product you have.

You suppose wrongly, and I thought I answered this before.  Technically, you can re-enable the automatic updates but that will require you disabling updates every Monday just before black Tuesday and then manually download and install the cumulative security update newly released and restart before you activate the updates automatic (or notifications only) once more.  It is more reliable just disable automatic updates and do not have the headache.  Disable the horse of notification that is displayed in the status bar, and that you don't mind.

To not argue the point, but XP users required the kind of brilliant 'support' who gave XP since the time of the IE7 to IE8 'false upgrade' users XP need like a hole in the head.

  • Why lsass.exe consumes resources after the start?

Lsass.exe turns 15-20% cpu level for 10-15 minutes after the start.  I have a fast, dual-core machine and the latest XP.

    Hello

"lsass.exe" is the local security authentication server. It checks the validity of the user on your PC or Server logons. Lsass generates the process responsible for authenticating users for the Winlogon service. This is done by using packages of authentication such as the default, Msgina.dll. If authentication successful, Lsass generates the user access token, which is used to launch the initial shell. Other processes that the user initiates then inherit this token. More information

Note: The lsass.exe file is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. In other cases, lsass.exe is a virus, spyware, Trojan or worm!

If you suspect a viral activity, and then run Microsoft Security Scanner and check.
    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

    I hope this helps.

  • Svchost.exe consumes 90-100% cpu memory

When I start my computer there are 5-6 processes svchost.exe and none of them use 90% above the memory of the cpu. There is that one, IE, idle system process that uses more than 90% cpu. But when I turn off my net by right clicking on the icon in the status bar notification area and select Disable, after a while, one of the svchost.exe process begins to consume more than 90% cpu. Also its members use is superior to 40 000 K and my computer responds very slowly.

Also as soon as I finish this process my computer responds normally.
Also when I shut down my computer shows blue scree an additional message «closing network connections...» ', this isn't usually comes.
    Please help me...
    Thank you

Are you now a statement is not a problem.

    1. the amount of memory in the "working set" of a process (10 000 K = 10 MB) should not be a problem for most systems.  Even an old computer running XP probably has at least 512 MB of RAM installed.

2 PIDs are specific to your system.  Reports that a process has 912 PID doesn't mean anything to anyone else.  The svchost.exe instance you mention hosts most of all instances of svchost services into a Windows XP system (this is the "netsvcs" of services group), is not at all surprising that he needs more memory.

Buried in this long list of services is wuauserv, which is the Windows Update automatic update service.  It wouldn't surprise me at all if this is the service that used a lot of cycles CPU when you shut down your Internet connection.

If you 'end process' for this instance of svchost, most of the things that will stop working are related to the network, which may be important to you if you have disconnected your network connection.  Not all, however, are related to the network.  For example, the sound does work more (AudioSrv).

For more information, go here--> http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-xp-x86-32-bit-service-pack-3-service-configurations/ names when you run tasklist/SVC are the "service name" rather than the name, "display" then click on the header in the second column of the table in the Black Viper to sort by service name.  You can click on the "display name" of the any services to learn more on this subject.

  • ESXi (4.0.0) not to award all the CPU capacity?

This is my first post of the community - apologies for display on ESXi 3.5, but my problem is with version 4.

I'm under ESXi 4.0 build 171294 on an HP Proliant DL380 G5 Dual 2.66 Ghz Dual Core CPU with 9 GB of RAM.  I have a bit of exposure to VMWare Workstation and ESX, but its amazing how much you realize that you don't know until you try to build your own.  I send an apology through the cosmos for all those of you who have heard me scream "how the hell people paid so much money to configure ESX?" after the disc in to burst and fits in about 10 minutes.  Karma curly!

    My question:

Two hearts, two processors clocked at 2.66 Ghz (2666 Mhz) x = 10,664 Ghz or 10 664 Mhz, right?

For some reason, my application ESXi shows and has ever since wherever it has been installed, available in treatment only 9064 Mhz capacity.  I haven't noticed until I started planning the resource pools to partition my production of the laboratory of my experimental environment servers and started to do the math.

My host is configured to use the default value of 267 Mhz, and I have attached a few screenshots to support my reasoning.  Has anyone seen this kind of problem before? Y at - it a known bug that I missed during my search?

Welcome to the Forums - do not forget the vmkernel - ESX/ESXi hypervisor also needs CPU cycles - the 267 reserve ensures that your host has 267 MHz at its disposal all the time - it is not a limit if the host needs more than 267 that he will get it.

Using Firefox 40.0.2 and find that when I try to access the options screen, it shows, but I can't access all the options it contains, including passwords. This has only just begun, so this would indicate a problem with this version. How can I or yoy, solve this problem.
