  The most likely explanation is NetFlix changed something in their routine of authentication (i.e. SOAP structure or just a URL string, whatever) and who broke the Vista NetFlix WMC client. It did not affect the web interface of NetFlix because operated a NetFlix service, they were obviously aware of the change pending and adjusted their web client to use the new method.

  Customer WMC NetFlix in Windows 7 (which is a new product), was probably already coded to use the new method. The client in Vista has continued to work with the old method, until NetFlix finally stop this method.
