Why the file .ai portrait orientation export as a .jpg using landscape?

Hi people,

I'm new to Illustrator, so bear with me.  I did an 8"x10.5" portrait image mode inches and now I need to export it to a .jpg file to include in the word of another, larger document.  However, when I export the image, I get a file in the view landscape with a lot of white space on each side of my image, but especially on the right.  Weird.  How can I export it's size and shape I want?

See you soon!

Did you use artboard checked in the export dialog box?

  • Why the file constructor does not take exception?

    Hello

    I was wondering why the file class constructor doesn't have an exception verified where the path to the file would be wrong or the file does not exist.

    For example, if we use a Scanner to read a file, the Scanner manufacturer made throws FileNotFoundException.
    Why do Java only checks here and not when the file object is created? What is behind all this?
    File inFile = new File("c:/myfile.txt");
    Scanner sc = new Scanner(inFile);  // can throw FileNotFoundException
    Thanks in advance for your comments.

    Because a file object can validly represent a path that does not actually exist on the file system.

    For example, if we use a Scanner to read a file, the Scanner manufacturer made throws FileNotFoundException.

    Because, while that file simply represents a path that may or may not exist, scan will attempt to read from the path you give, so that the file must exist for Scanner to do its job. It sometimes makes sense to represent a non-existent path, but it is never logical to try to read it.

  • I exported a .tif file and created a new folder for it. Why the file does not show in the catalogue?

    The file should show in the catalogue?

    No, the default export does not cause the picture to appear in the catalog, and it causes the folder appear in the files Panel.

    There is an option in the export dialog box that automatically imports the exported photos in the catalog, maybe that's what you want, maybe not. I rarely see a necessity to have exports included in the catalogue. Most of the people the export only when necessary for the purposes non-Lightroom, and in this case, there is no reason to keep exports in the long term, you can always recreate the exported photo by exporting it again.

  • Why the files are stored on an external drive not appearing in the "other" classification on my iMac HD?

    I'm running OS X version 10.11.4 on an iMac, retina 5 K 27-inch/3.5 GHz Intel Core i5 with 24 GB RAM/1 TB HDD and I have had for about a year, although I migrate some files over my old machine, but most were on an external.  I have almost all my larger files on an external drive 2 TB - for the most part hi res .eps, .jpeg, .png.

    I run CleanMyMac 3 as a utility. When I saw recently that I had more than 600 GB of 'others' I decided I have to spend the day to clean my files and machine - and have therefore been sucked into this rabbit hole.

    After cleaning duplicate files, empty the caches, removing unused applications and clean the external hard drive, I have still 570 GB of "other".  When you click on the bar in their own my Mac, it gives you a list of what is included in each of the classifications of file storage.  I understand, including all Documents to plain text, PDF and even files .docx, ect...

    what I don't understand is why:

    1 .pages (documents created in the clean Apple program) are not classified with documents, rather than as 'other '.

    2. why each of my .eps files that are stored on an external drive also claim space on my Mac?  It would potentially be the preview images displayed in the Finder? And if so, why it store a snapshot of the same size as the actual file?

    AND, most importantly, I can recover some of the disk space consumed by the huge amount of .eps files?

    Thank you

    'CleanMyMac' is a scam and a frequent cause of instability and poor performance. Depending on which version you have, the developer's instructions may not completely uninstall. Please follow these instructions, then do as below.

    Back up all data before proceeding.

    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select this option:

    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.macpaw.CleanMyMac3.Agent.plist

    Right-click or Ctrl-click on the highlighted line and select

    Services ▹ reveal in Finder (or just to reveal)

    the contextual menu.*, a file can open with a selected item. If so, move the selected item to the trash. You may be prompted for administrator login password.

    Repeat with this line:

    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.macpaw.CleanMyMac3.Agent

    Restart the computer and empty the trash.

    You may also delete one or more of these elements in the same way:

    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.macpaw.CleanMyMac.helperTool.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.macpaw.CleanMyMac.volumeWatcher.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.macpaw.CleanMyMac3.Scheduler.plist

    Never install "CleanMyMac" or something like that.

    * If you do not see the item context menu copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination. In the Finder, select

    Go ▹ go to the folder...

    from the menu bar and paste it into the box that opens by pressing command + V. You won't see what you pasted a newline being included. Press return.

    For the other category in the display of information storage, see this support article. If the display appears to be inaccurate, try to rebuild the Spotlight index.

    Empty the trash if you don't have it already done. If you use iPhoto, emptying his trash internal everything first:

    ▹ iPhoto empty the trash

    In pictures:

    ▹ Show of the recently deleted ▹ file delete all

    Do the same thing in other applications like Aperture, with an internal feature of the trash. Then, restart the computer. Temporarily, which will free up space.

    According to the documentation from Apple, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the boot volume (as shown in the Infolog) for normal operation, not the mythical 10%, 15% or any percentage. You also need enough space to allow the growth of the data over. There is little or no advantage in terms of performance to get more free space than the minimum Apple recommends. Storage space you'll never use is wasted space.

    See this support article for some easy ways to free up storage space. A common waste of space is old backups iTunes to mobile devices. As shown in this support article, select the devices tab in the iTunes preferences window, select the backup that you want to remove and click on delete the backups. Keep at least a backup of each device you use yet.

    You can use a tool such OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and discover what is take up space. You can also delete files with it, but not unless you don't know you know what you remove and that all data is stored safely. This means that you have several backups, not one. Note that CESO works with OS X 10.8 or later.

    Deletion of files inside a photo library or iTunes will damage the library. Such a library should be changed within the application that created it. It is the same for e-mail files.

    Go further than if the problem is not resolved by the steps above.

    ODS cannot see the whole file system when you run simply by double-clicking; He sees only the files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you must run it as root.

    Back up all the data now.

    Install the application in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it runs.

    Triple-click any where in the text line below on this page to select, then copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

    security execute-with-privileges /A*/OmniDiskSweeper.app/*/M*/* 2>&-

    Launch the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

    ☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

    ☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

    Paste in the Terminal window by pressing command + V. You will be asked for your login password.

    The application window opens behind other open windows. When you scan a volume, the window will finally show all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.

    I do not recommend that you make a habit of doing. Do not delete anything as root. If something should be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then remove by safer alternatives. If in doubt, leave it alone or ask for advice.

    When you are finished with the app, he quit and also to leave Terminal.

  • Remove the file name characters when exporting to file

    Hi all

    I worked with Silly-V , which has been extremely useful in creating a script to automate creating files in Illustrator.

    What I need help with now is the ability to add in this script, the ability to remove "x #" character of a filename on export. This would be ideal, as it will completely automate what I did by hand for months.

    The current script, that we have put in place takes generally, which would take me about 1 minute per file and it has reduced to 10 seconds. Translate this in the whole of the need to treat roughly 800-1 000 files, and you can see where the time invested is decreased significantly.

    The last piece of the puzzle is the removal of characters from ONE of the two files that are created through this script.

    First of all, this is the current script. It seems to work perfectly for what I ask it to do.

    I found the program Name Mangler done an exceptional job of the completion of the task of renaming. Here's a screenshot of what I'm asking for looks like with this program.

    Screen Shot 2016-08-01 at 3.18.45 PM.png

    My ultimate goal is to be able to integrate this unique Name Mangler feature the existing script I posted above. Now, the problem is that I need ONLY to assign the file created by the section of the lines 66-71. As you can see, I need to remove the file name starting at the index of 14 characters.

    Is it possible and something that anyone can help with?

    Thank you in advance!

    Whew busy days!

    Well, I got this here:

    #target illustrator

      var folder_2 = Folder("~/Desktop/Clean CAD");

              doc.layers[i].visible = true;
          }
      };

      function hideLayer(doc, name) {
          doc.layers.getByName(name).visible = false;
      };

      function exportMyPng(dest, doc, props) {
          if(props.hasOwnProperty("antiAliasing")){
            switch(props.antiAliasing){

                  break;

      exportMyPng(folder_2, doc, {

      });
      app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);

    This one has a new parameter "charsOffStart" that you have to stick in your two-functions for the economy, and it will be lop however much from character now!

  • Why the file becomes so large, if it has only linked psd?

    Dear community staff and Adobe,

    I have this problem with my CS6 Illustrator on Windows 7.

    My .ai file contains a work plan with a linked psd file. The PSD (made with Photoshop CS6) is 373 MB size. Before linking the psd file, my file was only one size of 20 MB. My file have became 220 MB size! Why so huge weight if it is only linked psd?

    It is a problem, because I need to connect several other psd files!

    Waiting for your reply and the solution

    Thank you

    Disable the Compatible PDF file option when you save the file otherwise the image gets embedded in the PDF part.

    Be careful if you want to use the Illustrator file in InDesign or Photoshop, you must activate the PDF compatibility.

  • Why the file size does not change when I use "Process multiple Images" to add a watermark?

    Hello

    I use 11 elements. To add a watermark to a lot of JPG photos at the same time, I use the function 'process multiple files.

    I select a source folder and a destination folder and adds a number to three numbers for each file. I do NOT check the box marked 'change photo size. After that, I set the watermark I want printed on my photos and hit OK. All files in the source folder are processed and saved with a new name in the destination folder. Loyally.

    But. The file size of the new file is strongly reduced, compared to the original. He's going from 10 MB to 500 KB (in general). Why is this? Is there a way I can help?

    Kind regards

    / Mikael Lindgren

    File size reduction is the effect of jpeg compression. In the process several files dialog, check the bottom option "convert files to the format" and choose "jpeg max quality.

  • Why the EXIF does not more export in Lightroom 3?

    There is no EXIF more inside the exported JPEG images!

    Is it too ask Adobe, with these expensive software, customers can count on a minimum of backward compatibility?

    Is it too like Adobe to warn users when they delete such an important feature?

    Or is this a bug? I can't imagine.

    And like allways, if slow, resource consumption and so many accidents: with each new version.

    And, as often, install the trial version of Lightroom3.2 had killed all my preferences in my version of lightroom2 and asked me hours to get everything...

    It's a pity and regrettable.

    According to me, the thread might have left a little to try to solve the problem of the customer do not have some EXIF data of an image exported from Lightroom 3.2.  This only affects Lightroom 3.2 and exports where the limit of the file size is selected.  The same EXIF metadata are stored in several places (XMP is one of them and we shouldn't probably even at the bottom of the XMP in this thread) function of the size limit of the file inadvertently deleted a part of one of these locations EXIF fields.  This will be fixed in the next version of Lightroom dowry and we will soon have a release candidate of this update so that you can test it in your workflow.  In the meantime, the deactivation of the maximum file size option will ensure that all your metadata EXIF is available in the exported file.

  • Why the file size is reduced when the visibility of the layer is hidden?

    With the same PSD file, I have hidden the visibility layer and recorded another copy, and I noticed that the file size is significantly reduced.

    Anyone know why?

    Thank you

    When you maximize the verified compatibility, Photoshop records a version flattened your file in the psd. When you hide the layers and save, of course, the flattened version will consist of your file psd with these missing layers. If these layers had a lot of additional information, as opposed to simply a lot of white space or easily compressible full areas, then you will see a difference in file size.

  • Why the file name of the file as an attachment with Annotations "attach a file" (trombone) become unknown when the observations are published?

    Our company recently purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro XI intended to be used for shared electronic reviews.  We use the send for shared review in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI, and all the comment tools work as expectedexcept the trombone in Annotations.

    When a Word or Excel or Image (png, jpeg) file is attached using the trombone of Annotations, the initiator may initially see and open. But once feedback is enabled and the review file is closed, the file 'Name' becomes 'Unknown' (even if the Description is the correct file name and extension).  Change information are unknown, such as size and compressed size.

    When the control file is then reopened, even the initiator cannot open the file, although:

    • The location of the file is marked with the paper clip in the document.
    • The file name is displayed in the list of comments with the name of the initiator.
    • In the list of attachments (the paper clip under the thumbnails and bookmarks), the name appears as unknown, shows the file name Description, update is unknown, the size is unknown and compressed size is unknown.

    The file name cannot be published, although the Description file can be.

    We have followed the procedure described in the tutorials but may not know how to resolve this situation.  As this feature was the reason for the purchase of Adobe Acrobat Pro IX, we would any help. Please leave out the basics because we are new users.

    We have several people with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and the rest have Adobe Reader XI is a Windows platform.  Can someone please give us some advice how to get this function runs as described?

  • Why the Firefox on Android is so great? It uses 20-60 MB and fills the volume? (App: 24MB.) Data: 30 MB +)

    Summary:

    Firefox using too much space on my Android phone, and this causes problems on my phone for example errors "Low on space". Android applications are unable to obtain updates to security due to the use of the high area of Firefox, which is a security problem.

    Why Firefox uses as much space and how to prevent or solve this problem?

    Details:

    I am running Firefox on Android 2.3.4 18.0. I then Firefox my 8 GB SD card. This problem also occurs well in Firefox 19 & 20 of Firefox.

    Firefox uses a huge amount of space. This is the largest app on my phone by a long shot. It seems that Firefox will grow without limits, until what it triggers a "low on space" warning on the Android device. When this "low on space" warning is reached, Firefox becomes unstable and I'm unable to install other Android applications. Often applications cannot be updated due to high usage space of Firefox and cannot receive updates of security which is a security problem.

    Please see the following screenshot that shows that Firefox uses about 30 MB worth of space and is approximately two times larger than the next largest app, Google Maps.

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7di3oh1p98bh68v/AoxNuqMKd4/2013.01.20-16.17.40.JPEG

    If I go into ' settings: Applications: storage use: Firefox ", Android tells me that Firefox uses the following amount of space:

       Storage:
       Total: 29.60Mb
       Application: 1.85MB
       Data: 27.76MB

       Cache: 0.00B

    When Firefox is freshly installed, the "Total:" use is closer to 3MB. But in the coming days, this number increases to 30 MB.

    Why Firefox uses as much space and how to prevent or solve this problem?

    Thanks for pointing the "browser.cache.disk.parent_directory" option I understand the implications of privacy to store the cache outside the profile directory, but I don't have much choice. Firefox as an App has increased slightly with the latest version (8 MB to a value of policies) and my phone was so full that the system was not the application updates to security for other applications. I have that is need to get this resolved the problems of disk space or I will stop using Firefox.

    I did it for free space:

    1. Create a new folder on my SD card ("/ mnt/sdcard/something /")
    2. Under ' subject: config' set browser.cache.disk.parent_directory to match the new directory created previously.
    3. Restart Firefox (I had to kill the Firefox application)
    4. Went to a few sites such as Facebook and Pinterest cache-heavy
    5. Checked the cache didn't work under ' subject: cache'
    6. Remove old files from the cache in my foo.profile/Cache Directory
    7. Went to "subject: config' and came back some of my manual settings that it took months to save disk space."

    Now Firefox uses 10 MB less space on the memory of my system, then he has done it before. I can also make the larger cache (much larger) which will speed up the display of Web pages.

    I couldn't create a symbolic link from my old Cache Directory to the new directory of Cache.
