Change how Windows installs or notifies you of updates

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/change-how-Windows-installs-or-notifies-you-about-updates>

If you select the download updates but let me choose... option, no update will install without your approval. Suppose an update will require a reboot and does not approve the installation of an update until & unless you are ready to restart.

You can change the AU for the "updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" setting. Once you have done this, you will need to approve the updates are downloaded, the updates are installed and where they are installed.

I prefer "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" setting.

  • Why Fx 28 is pretty darn slow very recently compared to IE10 and Crome33?

I use Fx from eight last year and it has never been slow. But now I am experiencing Fx 28 (updated almost a month back) to be pretty slow since last week. I am using Windows 7 32 bit, 2 GB RAM (250 GB HDD) computer. Other web browser like IE10 and Chrome 33 are uber fast to search the Web while Fx 28 maintains loading of web pages forever (I tried mozila.org, google.com, yahoo.com , etc.). To counter this problem, I have 'disabled' or 'request to activate' all plug-ins (such as Shockwave Flash and Shockwave for Director, JAVA etc.) but it did not help iota of this problem. I scanned my computer with Malware-bytes and good suite AV did not show anything unusual with the system. I have searched the Mozilla support forum and tried other options as well as clearing web cache, use hardware acceleration (check and uncheck), using Fx in safemode, private mode etc and nothing worked. I don't want to switch to another browser just like that so would solve this problem as soon as POSSIBLE.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions in due course.

I reinstalled Fx and unchecked option "enable firfox health report" on the tab "data selection". I don't know what happened but now it does not work (although slow). May be some add-on screwed by updating Fx last time. But I don't know why it took nearly a month to have consequences on Fx.

Still, I would love to have a quick and light Fx on my system that I got a month back.

    Hello kdubu722,

Try to start your system in safe mode:

    1. Restart your computer if it is running.
    2. Press and hold the F8 key for 3 seconds after your computer powers initially on.
    3. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu (or beep) you can stop.

When I start right click then properties, this happens "this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions on your computer. System Restore has been disabled by group policy.  To turn on system restore, contact your domain administrator.

The usual advice are something in the sense of "something has been disabled in the group policy...". ", and it is probably true that something has been disabled, but you know what something is and what it takes to do about it.

If you are using XP Home Edition, you will get away with advice to use the Group Policy Editor, since it has no Group Policy Editor in XP Home and only
really does not tell you where to look in group policy, even if you run the Group Policy Editor.

You need a complete solution that works for all versions of XP and requires no hunting around in the Group Policy Editor or registry to find where things are that have been disabled.

Unless you have disabled these things on purpose, chances are good that your system has a malware infection.  The malware knows what tools you use to try to find and remove, for the malware disables the things you are more likely to consume and prevents them from running if you can't find the malware and remove it.

If your system has this kind of affliction, all malicious software tools you currently use or have used failed to protect your system so that you can expand your horizons malware detection and prevention to prevent these kinds of afflictions in the first place.

The malware will be happy you trick into thinking that you need to so something drastic to fix your system - as a facility repair, system restore point or a total reinstallation of XP.  This is what it would be like you, but these measures are not necessary.

You must solve the immediate problem of the tools does not, then scan your system for malware when you are finished.

No matter what kind of malware you've used analytical tools, they are unlikely to solve this problem, because they cannot tell if the changes made to your system have been on purpose (you or an administrator who makes them) or some malware changed them, so the analysis tools will let these things alone (it's usually a good thing).

If your system is afflicted in this way, there are probably other things that also do not work - like the registry editor, System Restore and the command prompt, so fix them all at once even if you have not discovered they are broken again.

These commands from registry removes the registry entries that are stop opening programs.  Although the registry entries do not exist, these commands are safe to run and will work for all versions of XP.

Before making any changes to your registry, back up the registry with this free and popular tool:

Save the new text file with extension .reg on your desktop or somewhere you can remember with a name you can remember, something like:

    enableit.reg

After you save the file, close Notepad.

Locate the file enableit.reg on your desktop and double-click it.

Alternatively, you can right-click on the enableit.reg file, choose open with... and select the registry editor.

Answer in the affirmative to the question... Are you sure you want to add the information in the registry?

You should then see a message that information has been registered in the register.

    Reboot your system and test.

You can delete the enableit.reg file when you are finished.

If the registry editor has also been disabled, we first fix (not a problem).

  • Scheduled task runs does not correctly in the Windows XP machine.

Original title: Troubleshoot the scheduled task.

I have a scheduled task scheduled to run at 2:30 every night.  The time of execution scheduled next is 02:30 March 2, 2011.  I was not able to know what prevents it from running.  After a diagnosis, I'm sure it's not the exact command, but rather the setting in the scheduled task.  However, this is just in case: cmd /c start 'scan MalwareBytes' / low/b "C:\Program Malwarebytes ' Anti - Malware\mbam.exe" / scan-complete - log - cancel

I have read many web pages on the resolution of the scheduled tasks, but the principal that I follow is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308558.  Here is what I checked:

    • The scheduled task folder shows a 27 February 2011 than last time to run
    • Last log written by the application is February 27, 2011, confirming the last Run Time
    • Status column is empty
    • The application runs if I right click on the scheduled task and select run
    • I used 'cmd' and 'start' in a similar way to successfully launch a low priority job in different scheduled task launching a different application of scanning
    • Application logs for all three of my tasks planned for antimalware scans different show that there is a lot of room between the task durations
    • If I right click on the task failed on demand, choose run and wait for the end, success is indicated by a new log file written by the application and a "Last Run Time" update in the scheduled task folder
    • c:/Windows/SchedLgU.txt confirmed that the scheduled task that failed did not run since February 27, 2011, while other scheduled tasks has been run.  After a right click and running, c:/WINDOWS/SchedLgU.Txt shows a successful run.

All my regular scans are set to run if the computer is idle, and I'm sure that didn't prevent this idling at this hour there.  The scheduled task failed is set to run under an administrator account even if this user is not signed.  He was placed this way well before the last run time of the February 27, 2011, and other tasks are also implemented this way (with success).  Is there anything else I can try?

I think I found the problem.  I unchecked the option somehow to wake up in order to perform the scheduled task.  Thank you all for your answers.

The answers are stored in a log file. I have attached the log file. In the log file in three places while displaying ATR, get added some unwanted 00's. Please help me how it is and how to remove it?

    Thank you

[Note: (not to run the attached vi.] It disables all devices in your system)].

It seems that the duration depends on the value you get out of the dll (dwARTLen). You have wired it as 100, so it seems that the dll simply returns the entry. Maybe you want to check the documentation for the dll on the way to get the actual length.

A large part of your code is very confusing...

    • You have several subVIs that are essentially the same, but with different names. Not one of these not enough?
    • What is the purpose of the loop IN the adhc.vi? Since you autoindex in a table of a line, it will be executed only once, and the result is the same as if you would remove the loop FOR.
    • Your main VI is extremely repetitive with lots of duplicate code. You have 12 instances of the file name constant, would be enough! Enable.VI is identical to disable.vi, except for a constant of diagram. Much the same constant string ("ATR: ', ' peripheral access card:", etc. "), once again, everyone is enough.

Here a nice state machine would make all the difference.  You need only about 10% of the current code, eliminating all the rehearsals.

  • Mozilla said "your system does not meet the requirements to run Firefox ' but when I check the conditions, my system meets all.

Hi, please, do a right-click on the firefox icon, go to properties > compatibility, and make sure that firefox is not configured to run in compatibility mode (atm your useragent reports that you run windows 2000).
Thereafter, it should be possible to update.

Hello sperrybream, no download that is not from mozilla.org is approved by mozilla. as you have described the issue, it seems certainly doubtful ("It is recommended to update your system drive now" - there is no such thing as a system drive) & I would definitely recommend not not to react on the popups from unknown sources.
