  I've had Vista for a few years and had installed SP2. After a pretty bad fall, I had to "restore to the factory settings." This has left the machine as it had been when he came out of the box.

  Have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop computer that I use very rarely.  Windows Vista service Pack 2 32-bit, Internet explorer 9.  Last used in July 2015 and was properly executed alll Windows updates.  When I turned this back on a week, he n;' t running windows updaIe, he just constantly sought to updates - no error code.  It would also not essential security update.  I thought that maybe I had lost the connection with microsoft, so I checked to see if I could download Security Essentials, which I did and installed successfully as he said it was the essential security upgrade and the definitions are updated.

  When I initially turned it a week ago, I noticed that it was not keeping the date correctly, so I figured well battery CMOS was dead.  Put a new battery in and now is keep date and time correctly.

  All other functions of the computer seem to work normally, internet, Word, etc..  Just cannot get a Windows Update.  I checked F2 Setup and it does not appear that anything was out of sync because of the battery flat, except he apparently went back to the default values on boot encode as he thought he had a diskette that is not.  Changed and it is now successfully boot from C:

  I guess that this lower filter of "tdcmdpst" (the writing of TOSHIBA motor filter driver) is the issue.
  But I can't remove the filter 'tdcmdpst' even with admin rights.

  How can I remove this filter to upgrade Vista SP2?
