  I don't know but, I am very pessimistic, you have every chance of casting more than 8 GB HDD to your laptop because there are BIOS HARD disk size restrictions! If the latest version of the BIOS does not support the new HDD it appears impossible to run!

  Can you please send a link where is possible to read the specifications of this 40 GB HARD drive.

  Can someone clarify this for me - I guess that the memory config for it would be the same as for a PC. Can I mix and match modules memory too long that I do not exceed the maximum of 256 MB. Apart from the conflict, a 133 MHz module would just run at the 100 MHz FSB speed.

  So I could add a module of 128 MB 100 MHz for the standard 64 MB DIMM equipping the Tecra 8000 do 192 Mb or a single 256 MB 100 MHz module... OR 2 x 128 MB...

  as far as I know the Tecra 8000 has no FSB 100 speed!

  I try to install win 2 k on my Tecra S2.
  I have download all the drivers and I have read the order of installation, but now I have an unknown PCI device.

  I try to check all devices such as:
  -Modem
  -Lan card
  -Wireless network card
  -Card bus
  -Audio

  etc etc (including the irda driver, mobile extension, power save the driver driver touchpad...)

  I also try to re install all the driver but I ' have already the unknown PCI, the only factor device that I have not installed is the Bluetooth.

  Does anyone know, if Windows 2000 is put on the laptop next would create a problem with device drivers - specifically for the serial port (RS232, communications). I wonder, as I work with old technology and require a TRUE - no USB converters series series connection.   I think that there should be no problem to install Windows 2000 on the M1, because Toshiba is provide drivers for this laptop for XP and also for the year 2000. You can find them on the download page for the driver.

  I have a Tecra 8000 PII 400.
  The PCI card (which is actually a 'C-Cube Microsystems Cinemaster C 3.0 DVD Decoder (rev 02)') works fine with W2k.
  On linux, I don't have the drivers to make it work (but I use xine player for watching movies, which is fine with the 400 MHz processor).

  I found some interesting info on this good old classic. Your Tecra can handle with max 256 MB of RAM. Tecra 8000 has two memory slots, and you can use two 128 MB modules.

  Module 128 MB compatible is with PA2062U part number.

  I recently asked to watch Tecra 8000 a friends (PII 233) and give it a bit of an update... Don't know why the most I've ever done, is to add a few small components in my PC at home!

  My question is - is this possible for a connection broadband to be put in place - I looked all over the laptop, but don't find nothing which would suggest it is possible.

  As far as I know that the Tecra 8000 was not equipped with LAN port.
  It s really amazing but it is a fact

  However, if you want to use LAN then I advise you to buy a PCMCIA (Cardbus 32-bit) LAN card that would be allows to connect the Tecra 8000 to LAN.

  I don't get my Belkin network card Wireless PCMCIA connected to my Tecra 8000.
  That's all new win 2000, including all updates and I don't know that the pcmcia slot is working very well.

  Try to change some settings in the BIOS.
  In the configuration box, you can set the configuration of device option to all devices.

  I also recommend to check the Device Manager. If there is no yellow exclamation next to the sound card, so I would say that the audio driver has succeeded not installed and there must be something wrong with the audio settings.
  Have you checked the sound and audio devices in the control panel? You should check all the audio controller if they are defined at the top level.

  I'm not familiar with the Tecra 8000 and W2K operating system. If there I sno good driver on Toshiba download page (I assume W2K is not supported for this model of laptop), please try to find the driver somewhere on the net. I found some info your unit has NeoMagic NM2200 (MagicMedia 256av) video card.

  To use an external monitor as a second monitor, or extended display just try to use the Windows settings in display properties.

  I checked Toshiba BIOS download page on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_bios.jsp and TRAD BIOS version is proposed. This old Tecra is maybe 10 years and now, Toshiba has offered traditional update the BIOS only.

  Win versions are later available with latest Tecra 9000/9100.

  Have you tried to get into the BIOS?
  Check it out.
  But usually after the update laptop BIOS should properly work and boots.
  Have you followed the instructions on the BIOS update on the page of Toshiba?
  Maybe you did something wrong and the motherboard is damaged.
