Win 7 and old Deskjet printers

I have a 995c DJ and 770 which are not supported in Windows 7 either by HP or Windows 7 drivers.  I found a good work around this two-sided supports and other advanced features.  Download driver XP; Right click on properties, click with the left button on compatibility, then mode XP (SP 3 or 2) and run as administrator.  Double-click on the installation file and it asks you if you want to UNLOCK the incompatible installation; answer YES.  Otherwise, it does not, because it is blocked by windows 7.  The same properties with the Setup file (should be default) and double click on setup.exe.  It should complete normally and you can proceed with auto detection or change you your driver to the newly installed.  I also used the 990 drivers for the 995c and it works well with advanced features.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip, but I'm not aware of a DJ 770.  What is the DJ 720 or 970? Both have drivers available on Windows 7 via WIndows Update.  You can find the complete list of compatible printers here.

  • Difficulty installing and using HP printers on the same two Win XP machine

It is a question of both parties please.

I have two HP printers, a PSC-1400 and a C4280, which I connected to my generic desktop computer Win XP Pro.  I have always used the drivers for the two that come with Win XP and all two prints very well but I would also like to be able to use the scanners in the two that seems to require that I have install both disks that came with the printer.  My problem is that the discs do not autorun when it is installed and I do not know which files must run to start a full installation of the HP software.  Will someone tell me please where to start with the installations?  I have more printed instructions that came with the machine.

A second issue is that I actually have to run both disks for these two machines?  Because the C4280 machine is the most recent of the two, the software include and provide the functionality of AIO for the older machine like the C4280?

Thanks to all those who may be able to get me made in the right direction with this problem.

This announcement will close this request for assistance.  I have two AIO machines work enough for my needs.

To get this far I first removed all HP using my Revo Uninstaller and remove all residues that it found.  Then I took my PC to a Restore Point prior to my attempts to install my HP software.  Of course, I rebooted after the two actions.

Then, I created a fresh Restore Point and then installed the drivers and the base software for my C4280.  It is installed without incident.  No more fatal errors.

With fresh confidence, I installed the full package for my PSC 1410.  He hung up at the stage where he had to find the printer/scanner.  Knowing already that my PC could see the machine OK via the Device Manager, I replaced the printer USB cable but nothing better - the stage of the installation still does not see the machine.  So, I selected the option to connect the printer/scanner later and installation completely without more trouble.

Finally, I tested printing on both machines and could do it without problem.  Then I tested with each scan and was pleasantly surprised to find that two scanned just as they should.  At this point, I have no additional problems in this regard.

I don't know enough about what anyone to explain this sudden success but is not looking for any gift horse in the mouth and thus ends this request for assistance.  One respondent, I thank you a lot for your links.  You must me files downloaded from HP so I was not forced to work from the HP discs.

Need driver for scanner BenQ s2w 5000U will run under Win 7 and XP

    original title: software

Autour Googling I see that several pilot sites offer Win98, NT, Win2k, XP drivers for this very old scanner. Be careful when you use pilot sites and do not click on ads or links that say to search for drivers. It is unlikely that this very old scanner will work with Win7. Better to buy just a new scanner that will take in charge Win7 and XP. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Win 7 and 64-bit USB adapters

Background: Service mobile organization using more than 100 different pieces of software among more than a dozen OEMs to program various electronic communications / equipment.  Portable computers used in the field all have standard RS-232 ports of series 9 pins, each of the various equipment has an intertface cable used to read/write settings.  It takes a truckload of these cables...
In any case, as it becomes increasingly difficult to find new laptops with a serial port, and very recent material is now accessible via a USB port, use adapters USB-to-Serial, blah, blah, blah, etc..

Person in charge of the engineering drivers & dongles seem to understand that "RS - 232" is a STANDARD and that signals to the 9-pin end of the adapter must conform to this standard... that the driver is the software interface between the operating system (whatever it is) and the real world (RS-232).
Without mentioning name, software of all manufacturers performs equally well on Win XP and earlier via a real serial port.
The problems arise when using laptop computers WITHOUT serial ports, having only USB ports.
Each equipment manufacturer has attempted to provide a "fix" by offering a pilot & cable adapter USB-series of interconnection of existing facilities.  They ignore requests for information on patches for stuff earlier saying "is not available" or referring to him as 'legacy' products... and then suggesting that we keep "of older computers" for such problems.
In the "old days", the settings of the connection in series has been configured by the user... 8-N-1-9600, etc..
The OS is much smarter today... we have "plug & play"!  Problem is that we have now five adapters USB/serial, five pilots, and tries to do an any of them work properly on Windows 7 is a challenge.
Here's THE QUESTION - Windows 7 Will allow loading several drivers (they don't have the same file names to condition) for these different adapters, then match the driver appropriate to its adapter expected when one of the cards is connected to the laptop?  Tech readers to a site, open good software to access the customer equipment, plugs in USB-serial adpater, hope for the best... He uses a 64-bit Dell.  What we have done so far is to load a driver for a given map, use it, remove this driver in order to load another one for a different application.  This STINKS!
As we hear, "plug & play" depends on the OS see the item plugged in, receiving a little stream that contains the element 'ID' and then knows what to do next.
What we're doing wrong?  We should change the brand of deodorant?
Thanks to all those who confuse through this.

    • Turn off (preferably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before you perform the upgrade.
    • Reboot several times, and then try again.
    • Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
    • If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
    • Perform a clean boot, restart, and then try again.
    • If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both, then try to install.
    • If you are updated through Windows Update, when download reaches 100% disconnect from the LAN (Ethernet) Internet or Wi - Fi, then proceed with the installation.
    • If this does not work, try using the. ISO file to upgrade if possible.

  • Need to install Win 7 on another Win 7 and keep the programs installed

    Short version:

Can I install my purchased copy of Win 7 and crush someone another Win 7 without having to format and reinstall all my programs?

    Long version:

I have an old computer that I use for secondary purposes.  Years, I bought Win 7 and it is what is running on it.  A few weeks, one of my friends bought a new computer with Win 8.1 pre-installed.  There is no need of his old computer, and because it was far superior to MY old computer, gave it to me.  It was Win 7 already installed on it, so I thought that the best thing would be for me to install my programs on such matter, rather than to the format and have to deal with all the drivers and other whatnot.

Everything was going well until he told me after trying for a few weeks, he hates Windows 8 and will format the drive and re - install with its Windows 7 disc - the same one that was used on the computer, what he gave me.

This should not be much more of a problem, because I still have MY Windows 7 disc I bought.  I can just load it on the computer.  But what I need to format and start all over again?  Can I leave my programs and all drivers in place and just install my Windows 7 with my activation code, replacing his activation code?  Does make a difference if they are different flavors of Win 7?

    Pat

You should be able to simply change the key number (series) and do not have to re - install everything as long as the version that is on the computer, and the version with the key are the same or more.

You can do this by typing slmgr-IPK from an elevated command prompt

    Hi Roy Higgins,

Windows update no longer works if you don't have XP SP3 installed. To check your level of service pack system, click on start, run and type "Winver" in the Run dialog box and click on 'OK'.

  • Switch from Win XP and OE Express to Windows live mail, then in Win7 running Outlook 2010 - how?

This is NOT an easy process.

    (A) can I download Windows Live mail on my Win XP machine to migrate my e-mal address book and messages?

    (B) then, after I get stuff all the Windows Live stuff I'm supposed to be able to download stuff on Win 7 and Outlook.

Copy all the files from Outlook Express dbx on the XP machine in the Win 7 machine.  Also, to find the wab (address book) file and copy that.  Then in Outlook try Alt | File | Options | Advanced | Export and click on the button "export".  Then gives you options to import messages or address book and OE to choose it.  I have not tried and it might not work, but this would be the simplest method and you wouldn't have to go through living things.

See instructions for import here: www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm for Windows Mail in Vista.  Most of the provisions continue to apply, but in Outlook Import Wizard may not have the quirkiness of the Vista one.  Dbx files cannot be readonly however and the folders.dbx file must be present.  And copy the dbx files to a folder on the desktop on the Win7 machine so you won't not permissions with importation problems.

Did someone knows a way I can delete the fonts of all WIN XP and then download a CLEAN game and validated?

Validater fonts Microsoft can manage only a small subset at a time without crashing, and I prefer nuke batch and start over.
Win XP Pro SP3, Office 2003 PRO.
And relocation of the disk / repair / restoration clean them...

What is the problem with your fonts?

I have very few problems of fonts in my notes...

I took a this auditor of fonts and I don't know what that is supposed to do, but it takes too much time everything he does, so I just stopped after several minutes while it digested 2 files.   It also seems to be unsupported.

I compressed to the top of my fonts folder and put it on my SkyDrive, but I don't know too much about the operation of the fonts with XP and think that they must be "installed" by clicking on the file and choose to install the fonts.

I have NO idea if this zipped upward file will help you or not, but I would be sure to make a copy of what you have before overwriting things.  If things go haywire, I might have to leave town for a few days until things cool off.

One thing is for sure... we don't know even what it is, or anything on your system.  It is because the MS Answers forum ask all system information when a new question is requested (which is doubly certain).

I downloaded a copy of my zipped folder fonts on my SkyDrive (everyone has a SkyDrive for file sharing).

Here is the link to my SkyDrive and you can get the file you need it (fonts.zip).

    http://CID-6a7e789cab1d6f39.SkyDrive.live.com/redir.aspx?RESID=6A7E789CAB1D6F39! 311

When you see the files available for download, you will not see the file extension (.exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys, .zip etc), but when download you them they will have the right extension.

When you download the file (especially if you use Internet Explorer), when you get a chance to save the file, it cannot save the file with an extension (for example, .exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys, .zip) then you will need to manually add the extension appropriate to the file when you download the file before you save it.

You can download the file without the extension, and then rename the file to add the appropriate extension.
