Win 7 hot spare

Issue of information - if I have a set of diskettes of rescue for Vista I need to do a series for Win 7 when I update in October?

Yes, you will need to create your own. If you need an emergency bootbale disk,

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Backup and restoration will create the rescue disk.

I use Acronis 2009 to perform a full backup which I store on external drive.

  • Reuse a RAID disk and hot spare procedure

My questions are for a PE R720xd with the PERC RAID internal H710P controller.

I have replaced several RAID drives in the past, but I never did this before, so I was hoping to confirm my procedure for hard drives hot swap. A drive failed on one of my live servers. In the past I would always bring back the server during a maintenance window and replace the drive by using the configuration utility to make sure everything went correctly. This particular server has become a system of very high availability, so I was hoping to use for hot spare option do without bring down the server.

The other issue is that Dell is not in stock on the disk, I need so I intend to use a same car I replaced recently on a server off-production that has already been fixed in a RAID1 in another Dell R720 Server table. Any time, I have never replaced a RAID drive, I always used a new drive out-of-the-box, so I'm also not 100% on how to prepare the drive to use for a new RAID array.

I thought I am brings the donor server down and come off the drive I want to enjoy this the RAID array server using the configuration utility. So a question is - is there anything else I need to do preparation used in car for use in the new table?

With respect to hot-swapping which lead to the new array, is it really as simple as just popping one out and put a new in? Can I do to confirm it has taken - apart from just confirming that the lights blink like crazy during synchronization?

    Thanks for your understanding!

    C.Short,

You can switch the drive, but it will be not just to rebuild there is data on the hard drive. So when this disc is inserted, it will show foreign. You will need to do is to boot to the controller (Ctrl + R) and then CLEAR the foreign Configuration. Once completed, then you will be able to rebuild the disk on the virtual disk, you can do the BIOS of the controller, or from the OpenManage web interface (depending on the operating system).

Let me know if it helps.

  • Reference Dell MD3220 virtual disk - hot spare in use

We have a Dell MD3220.  one of the hard drives was taken out by an end-user trying to exchange a defective disc. Then after that the good player has replaced the old drive was placed back into the appropriate slot. Now we have a hot spare (enclosure 0, slot 23) in lieu of an another hot spare (attachment 2, slot 22). The hot spare that is subbed for has been replaced by two new hard drives now and the hot spare in use has still not disappeared. any suggestions on what to do next?

Virtual disk - hot spare in use

    Storage array: MD3220
    Disk group: 2
Physical disk failure in the: attachment 2, slot 22
         Action (deletion) enabled service:  NO.
LED of action on service component:  NO.
Replaced with a physical disk to: enclosure 0, slot 23
      Virtual disks: 3
         RAID level: 5
         Status:  Gradient

    Hello, GalaxyTechService.

It is perhaps not as complicated as it may seem, in fact. There is a wizard that you can use to return the disk to the raid set. Right-click the affected virtual disk and select 'Replace physical disk' and use the wizard that opens.

In the upper area will be "missing disks", and in the lower field will be options available to replace them.

    Then just follow the steps.

Let me know how it goes.

  • Md3220 and md1220 combo, how to configure any global hot spare parts.

The MD3220 is full of 300 GB 15K SAS drives the MD1220 is full 1 TB NL 'SAS' 7.2 K disks. The two boxes have discs 22 & 23 unused in the goal is relief. However all the mechanisms that I use to create hot household simply attaches all four disks to two speakers. I'd rather have two spare drives only protect readers in their own enclosure. Interestingly enough, I asked the software dell 'automatic configuration' (sic) the hot spare and he decided ONLY two use 1 TB drives and use them to protect the two speakers. In addition, I was quite puzzled as to why he also allowed me to do it manually the absurd configuration to allow a 300 GB drive protect a forum composed of 24 1 TB disks. In any case, is it possible to have host associated with a case (or disk group) spare parts. ? Thank you.

You can't dedicate a hot spare in a picture of MD3k-series. If a hot spare will succeed for any player in any long case that the size of the spare drive is the same or larger than the failed drive.

  • Has no disk in MD3000i - no not the kick in hot spare

    Hello

I'm having a lot of problems with this table.

First a defective disc.  The hot spare does not activate.  Or maybe that was the case, but it did not work because I got an error message "physical disk failure - failure of reconstruction.

Then another disc has no so the vdisk went offline.

We had a spare provided and it was put in the table.  But when I go on change-> replace the physical disks in Storage Manager it tells me that "there no physical disk defective or missing in this storage array that can be replaced by using the function to replace physical disks."

How can I go about getting the vdisk upward and execution?

    Thank you

    Steve

If after looking at the beam of support I see where you have the 2 has no drives hard and saw where reconstruction has failed. I see that FW is a bit outdated, but this is not to say exactly why reconstruction failed. I guess you don't have access to the data on the VD. The disc in the slot 0.1 seems to be the last disk that failed. An option that we would try to force online and get the table in a degraded state, so that we can have a backup if you have not already. However, if you do not have a backup your best bet would be to get the 2 new drives and re - create the RAID array and restore your data.

To force the disk online, you will need to enter the SMCli and use the command:

    SMcli - n {name} - c "revive physicalDisk [0,1];

If this does not work and that you are not able to get a backup copy, then I recommend you get in on a company like lead investors to 1-800-440-1904. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

  • RAID 5 Config of hot spare

    Hello

I have setup a R510 with raid 5 with 2 drives hot spares. Let's say a player fail and the HS kick, then I replaced the bad HD. What happens to the reader that is initially configured as a hot spare? It resets as a hot spare, or do I need to reconfigure and make HS default again?

  • Change your state of global hot spare on loan

Question 1: I have a reference dell power edge 2950 with perc 6 / i integrated. I have four 450 GB RAID 5 drives, a disk as a global hot spare, and a disk without operating with State loans. Can I change the State of this hot spare to prepare so I can add another raid 1 logic with two 450 GB drives? Should what steps I take?

Question 2: Physical disk 0:0:1 is damaged and I need to replace it. As I said I have a disk without exploitation, disc 1:0:5. Can I remove the drive without exploitation and replace the damaged one(0:0:1); remove the disc at the same time two will damage the server?

    1. Yes. You must delete the assignment the rescue. This is done either on the display of physical disks (World Relief) or virtual disks (dedicated relief).

    2. remove both drives at the same time will not damage the server. This will damage your table if you remove two ACTIVE RAID 5 with disks, but not a relief. Remove the drive bad "to hot' (do not feed out to replace), and then insert the disc before doing nothing).

  • Add the hot spare on Poweredge T430

    Hello

I have a Poweredge T430 with a PERC H330, I add another drive to have as a spare.

I did all the step and show car ready in the physical disk, now when I go on the virtual disk 0 and try to assign immediate replacement without hard drive shows, that I. m do were bad?

The drive is ready and good to go, is the same model and size, etc., how can I now add to the virtual disk.

    ndaniel
I see in the physical disk as a global hot spare drive and ready, maybe I need to remove it from the overall immediate focus on this virtual disk replacement I have?

Hot spare is not a property of the virtual disk. Yes, you will need to cancel the assignment as a global hot spare to assign as a dedicated hot spare drive. If you only have a virtual disk, then it is not serious if it is global or dedicated.

    Thank you

  • 2950 HDD D80A Firmware Update for the dedicated hot spares

I have a 2950 III with 8 Fujitsu 146 GB drives installed in a RAID 10 array. The first six discs are configured for use in a virtual disk with the last two records configured to be used as a dedicated hot spare. OMSA describes the version of the firmware of these two disks 0102. I ran the update of the firmware as described here:

    http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/product/PowerEdge-2950?driverId=F50fd

The six drives in the virtual disk just successfully upgraded to the version of the firmware D80A. Two rescue disks have not been tempted. I tried to run the Setup again and Setup note that installed and packaged versions are both D80A, but OMSA said that two rescue disks are always at 0102.

This is expected behavior? Spare disks are treated differently? If so, the firmware update as they are now or have I trade in the virtual disk to do the upgrade?

The link does not work for me earlier... it's working now.  There is also a utility 'nautilus' which can be used on Dell readers... it will update all readers of Dell, regardless of the make and model... preventing you from having to download a dozen different services.

Yes, that is why the update is a failure: Dell firmware cannot be updated with the firmware of the sale to the retail/credits, and retail/Generic firmware cannot be updated with the Dell firmware.

  • Laptop HP 15-afi131dx: how to create a hot spare for my system? Can I use a 64 GB flash instead of a disk drive?

This neophyte wants to create a backup disc for a possible recovery of the operating system.

Step by step of baby, please!

    BruceWilliamJ

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post about wanting to create a backup of your system and wanted to help.

What I would say, because I have been using it without problem for years, is using a third party tool known as Macrium Reflect.

Macrium reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or drives together.

What I recommend is the following:
    (1) download and install Macrium reflect (MR)
    (2) run M. and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition (s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB key
    (3) use the option to create a CD or a USB startup key

My experience is that SIR, when you use the option of Compression high, typically allows to compress the image file recorded at about 50% of the space USED in the OS partition.  This means that if you have a 40GB and 80GB OS partition is used, MR must only about 20 GB to store the image file.

I use all the time and it usually takes less than 10 minutes to make the backup of the image and at the same time or less do a restore.

In addition, MR has the ability to add a recovery Boot Menu entry.  This then allows you to boot into Windows re, and then you can use it to do a restore - when you cannot start Windows!

NOW, you have the means to restore a full system that works for the external hard drive or USB key in a few minutes.

If you need more information, then visit their Web site: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

    Good luck

  • Re: BSOD STOP: 0x0000007B on Satellite A355 and Win XP

    Hello

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite A355 of Costco in the States. I received the following error message when I tried to install XP:

    "STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF78D2524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000).

I applied the fix suggested by tony_roti in the thread "cannot install Win XP SP2 on Satellite A300 - 1 MM.

It seems to have worked as well on my A355.

The version of Costco of the machine comes with 2 hard drives of 250 GB.

I removed the disk of 250 GB with Vista installed on it.

I left the hot spare in the machine.

I changed the BIOS to boot from the CD
I changed the setting in the BIOS from AHCI to Compatible.

I reran install Windows XP SP2

At the appropriate level, I reformatted the hot spare from the module of XP SP2 with NTFS formatting.

    Then I installed Windows XP.

    ... Next up Boot Magic.

Thank you for having this forum he helped solve what could have been a show-stopper!

  • X220T wireless after reinstall Win 7

Hello. I used a rescue disk that my PC will again by reinstalling Windows 7 (boot sector problem (I think). WiFi did not work at first, but got it to work by reinstalling chip set update. Noticed that the hard drive was half full of useless junk so I used the hot spare to format the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7 once more. Everything works fine, but I can't get wifi working again, even though I tried to reinstall chipset. The radio button is on and its light appears at the bottom of the monitor.

It shows 2 network adapters, as before: Intel Centrino Advanced N-6205 Intel 82579LM gigabit network. . Neither one has a yellow exclamation mark next to it. I tried deactivating/activating them both with the same result. Wired connection works fine. Checked BIOS and WLAN is enabled. When you use the 'Manage the wireless Radio', I can feed the bluetooth on and outside, but by clicking on the button next to 802.11 Wireless Radio does nothing. Also, "Key settings" icon at the bottom has a NW to SE slash through it. I used the Lenovo update system to get them all but the KB2459268 Win 7 update (clings to install 91%).

I checked the other posts on the issue and some have broken links, so I don't know if I missed something or not. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Finally managed to do work somehow.

  • RD5200 raid5 spare drive does not

    Hello world

I have no real support of supported Netgear customer (except say update the firmware that they won't help you if you do not have remote access).

I hope that the community will be placed to help me.

My RD5200 is configured with a volume raid5 on 5 discs + a spare (replacement part is online, all the disks are identical)

Failure of one of the raid drives.

-first problem: the hot spare was no need relay.

second problem: the web management console, one there is no way to get the hot spare in raid5. (at least I did not find).

-problem: we received the replacement drive and traded with the defective (same Bay), the record is seen by the system but still once, do not join the raid volume.

Fourth problem: still no way to reach the spare to the Raid volume.

We tried to restart the RD5200. Several times with installed disks. Also stop it, remove the disc, restart and rear Cap. Nothing to get the disks.

We have also updated to 1.4.4 and did the same tests. nothing.

So we have now a Raid5 that is safer and 2 discs which are not usable with the existing Raid5 volume.

Someone at - it a solution? Thank you for your support.

.. .also I'd be very cautious about the interpretation of n-tier RAID (with disc m) when you are really dealing with ZFS (that Netgear could hide particularly well - only 7 instances of the word "ZFS" on a long ReadyDATA OS Manual of 250 pages - the real storage subsystem each ReadyDATA unit is running with...).

In ZFS (or Open-ZFS, see here) RAID 5 or RAID 6 does not exist in ZFS jargon.

Why? because ZFS, a part of the very traditional single vdev and redundant vdev (mirroring of disks n) - the two generally used on the root Pool - its own RAID-Z1, levels RAID-Z2 and Z3-RAID which provide, respectively, for simple parity, double and triple (while you work with single, double and triple parity vdev).

If your installation (the zpool status-v will tell you that) is - in fact - not a RAID5 but a RAID-Z1 vdev created with 5 disks (more the hot spare that has not been activated automatically on the storage pool), then you * just * (just like a RAID5) gradient RAID-Z1 chicken with remaining 4 drives good and 1 bad disc (once again the Hot Spare disk sat down with idle)... so yes He has degraded... something the next time, with a total of 6 drives available on the chassis, to deploy a single parity double RAID-Z2 storage pool (such mass can support 2 simultaneous drive failures, any disk in the pool) which is preferable to a RAID-Z1 with 5 disks plus one slowed Hot Spare.

A good starting point to understand ZFS can be this page but, out there, there are a lot of good documentation on ZFS, levels of RAID-Z and the ways to properly manage a based ZFS storage pool.

  • Too many spare disks when creating table

I shall preface this by saying: I'm new on Equallogic San...

I have a PS6100 with 16 drives of 2 TB.  When you perform the initial configuration on the table, it's from 4 disks as "rescue" any RAID level, I chose.  The option to right click on the drive and choose 'Add the disk to the RAID' is grayed out.

Having 4 discs/8 TB of storage "spare" seems much too excessive.  I would like only 1 or 2 disk hot spares.  I don't know if there is a problem preventing the table of allowing them to be "online" or if there is a setting to specify the number of spare parts.  If a setting is enabled, I can't find it anywhere.

Please let know us if this is normal or if there is anything I can do to get some of that extra space added to my table.

    Thank you!

    Hmmmm

the old PS60x0 comes with 16x3.5. The PS61x0 and later as

    24 x 3.5 "

    12 x 3.5 "

    or 24 x 2.5 "

IIRC it isn't so modell with 16 discs.

"Deleted" Dell RAID5 Option in one of the last FW Version from the GUI, if a customer drives of 1 TB or more because the risk of failure of a disk doubles increases when you make the raid rebuild underway long with large disks.

If you want to force the use of a RAID5 + spare, single, you must create the middle of raid from the command line.

We use RAID50 for the older model 16 disk which means: usable discs = Total of discs - 4 (2 + a 2 rescue disk parity)

    Kind regards
