Windows 10 backup images - wheres my location to save to option?

Hello

Apologies for an issue that is not strictly associated with adobe, but it is associated with designer which I imagine that many people here are.

Since switching to Windows 10, when I post a stock images or save an image of my browser, it goes directly into the downloads folder which is really annoying.  Previously, when you click Save picture or image to download, you have a dialog box asking where you want the saved image so you could save it with the relevant project.  Any ideas how to recover someone this option?

Thank you!

It is a browser setting.

For example the browser Chrome:

Settings > advanced settings > downloads > 'ask where to save each file... '. »

My user profile is not loaded correctly, and so Sony told me to do a restore of the C drive which took my drive C back to factory settings and lost all my programs and files.  I tried since then to restore the Windows Image backup I did on my external hard drive.

I open backup and Restore Center, click Advanced Restore, click Advanced Restore again.  The box application to what you want to restore?  The only option is to files from a backup made on a different computer.  I click Next, and he said: select the location of the backup to restore.  Hard drive, cd or dvd option has already found new Volume (e), which is my external hard drive.

I click Next again, and he says, select dates to restore from.  The only option in the box is dated 2008-01-12 14:14:34 backup location is not available.  My external hard drive has multiple backups on it, including the Windows Backup Image (which was the first backup, I did and it contains 152 GB), and so I do not understand this.

I continue, and then click Next.  It now says select files and folders to be restored, but there is nothing in the box.  I have check the restore everything in this backup box and click Next.  I save the files restored to the following location - check and navigate to the C drive.  I also check both boxes: restore files to their original subfolders and create a subfolder for the drive letter.  I click on begin to restore, and then he said:

Restoration was unsuccessful.  Error: the parameter is incorrect. (0 x 80070057)

I'm desperate to be able to get my programs and files back on my laptop.  I don't understand why the restore function can not see my Windows Backup Image, and why this is so difficult.  I've read other complaints by users about this, but cannot find a solution.

    Hi HGHFaith,

I suggest you try the following steps:

Step 1 : Clean boot the computer and then try to restore

Follow step 1 in the link below,

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

If everything works well after a clean boot, you can deduce that some third-party services are at the origin of the problem.

Continue with the remaining steps to pin-point on the third party service.

After find you the program that is causing the problem, you will have to perhaps to update or install a newer version of the program, if you rarely use that you should consider uninstalling the software.

Important: n ' forget not the computer to start normal follow step 7 in the link.

    If the problem persists,

Step 2: Run Check disk to repair bad sectors on the hard drive.

    a. Click Start, in the start search bar type cmd, right-click on the command prompt icon in the box programs and then click Run as administrator.

    b. type E: (external drive) and press enter

    c. at the command prompt, type chkdsk /f and then press ENTER.

    Now, type chkdsk/r

Note: CHKDSK would attempt to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, in the course of this process there are chances of DATA loss from that particular area.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query to the Microsoft forum. I will definitely help you with this.

This could be due to corruption on the system files, please follow the methods below.

Step 1: I suggest you to re-create the Task Scheduler.

Steps to re-create the Task Scheduler

    1. Click Start; in the start search type regedit.exe and press ENTER. (If you get a consent prompt, click Yes).
    2. Navigate to the following location. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Schedule keys and remove its subkeys.
    3. Save the changes and then close the registry editor.

Now check if the Task Scheduler works.

Note: The steps mentioned below includes the modification of the system registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

Step 2: Perform the scan SFC

I suggest that you can exercise SFC scan and check if that helps. The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions. It is a Windows utility that allows users to find corruptions in Windows system files and restore the damaged files.

  • Windows 7 backup system Image - 0x8078012D error Code - fails to complete system image backup?

I seem to have a problem with the Windows backup when a scheduled backup image on a hard drive external fails to finish, although she worked successfully before many times.  Backup Windows reports an error code of 0x8078012D.

I ran the tool of error checking on the external hard drive with running repair options, but no problem discovered.  The external disk drive seems ok because I use a Norton program to back up data on the same drive with no problems.  Also Windows backup will happily make a 'non-system image' backup on the external drive.

But it is not an image of the system stand alone, or as an add on the a normal backup.

    Any advice?

    Thank you
    David

After many tests on the solutions listed here, I found a way to fix my problem. I had continually failure is to say the system could not create a snapshot or that my drive has been a failure. It seems, with Windows 7, you must configure options that are not obvious to the users.

    1. go to control panel/system/System Protection and select your C: drive.

    2. Select "set up" and make sure "Restore system settings and previous versions of files" is on.

    3. the Max use value at least 2%

    4. apply

    5. Select your key USB you will use for backup and configure it again to the protection and the whole file size of at least 18%.

    6. apply

    7. in the control panel go to administrative tools, open Services.

8 scroll down until Windows backup and make sure it is set to manual and not started.

    9. highlight Volume Shadow and make sure it is also set to manual and not started.

10 10 aller go to control panel, select backup and restore.

    11. click on "Change settings", and then select the drive you will support up to.

  • Windows 7 backup - limit exceeded system image

I use Windows 7 backup on an external disk of 1 TB of Seagate.

Calendar is automatic (once / week) and system images, I chose "let Windows manage the backup history (maximum 232,86 GB) space.

(If I change this choice to 'keep only the last image system', he said space is 153,64 GB)

HOWEVER, when I look at the Windows backup disk space management, image system space is already at 277,58 GB, so way more supposed to Go 232,86 MAX.

Backups of data (there are only 2) are 189,44 GB

    16/05/2015-10/10/2015 95.68

    16/10/2015 - 01/02/2016 93.76

and there are 72 GB of other files, the reader is so much more than half full.

    I have 2 questions:

WHY the system recommended in image limit is not be maintained? -I want more than just the last image, but I would like to be able to delete some precedents myself.

Data backups - I used to see the new created on a fairly regular basis, now just of grows and grows. The only reason why I have 2 is because I had to do a restore system image in mid-October.

These two problems mean that I can't manage the space myself by removing older data and system image backups.

  • Windows 7 backup and restore shows no internal hard disk and the backup location option

Windows 7 backup and restore is only the possibility to go back to D drive which is a burner DVD C and F is both internal and external hard drives C is the system drive and F is a newly formatted 1 TB drive free. I access F in Explorer windows without any problems and I would use it for backup.

    Hi dairy Tech 2000,

Welcome to the Microsoft answers site.

Drive/C: would not be shown to the backup files since this is the system drive. You cannot save files to C:/drive to C:/drive.

However, when you change the backup settings to another drive on the computer, follow the steps below:
    1. click on start.
    2. backup and restore type of search.
    3. click on change settings.
    4. This will show the drives internal i.e. your F: drive / on the computer.
Now you can set the location of drive F:.

Found my own answer today from Western Digital.  If you have decided to make a backup image with the help of Windows 7, don't BUY THEIR 3 TB MYBOOK.  Here is what they sent me.

    Dear JJ,

Please contact Western Digital Service and customer support.

This problem seems to be caused by a problem with the Windows 7 backup and restore when you use disks with logical sector of 4 K sizes, which are found on WD 2.5 to and larger external drives. It's a bit different from the readers of 'Advanced Format', who are 4 K physical sector sizes and should not cause this problem.

It is always possible to use a disc, as long as you don't need to use the drive with Windows XP. Using the quick WD Formatter tool, select "Factory Default" configuration to reformat the drive. WARNING: This tool will erase all data on your drive, in order to take the necessary precautions.

  • What is the main difference between using using Windows 7 backup & using Acronis True Image backup?

If I remember, Acronis backup can actually make a real clone (of everything, or the details of my choice) of my entire disk/Partition, and Windows 7 backup will be only some backup (Microsoft?) Programs, including the OS Windows 7, right?

    • The Windows backup tool will save user files. It will not support the system files (unless you choose them explicitly, which is not a good idea).
    • Windows Image tool will create an image of the system partition. It is a very basic tool that is sometimes capricious.
    • Acronis image backup option is similar to the Windows backup tool, but with more options.
    • The image of Acronis image option is a tool for creating image full maturity with a much better functionality and flexibility of the Windows image tool.
    • Acronis image costs money.

Backup Windows jumped backup system image because one of the critical volumes cannot be included for backup. Make sure the volume is online and is formatted NTFS. (0 x 81000032)

The backup is set to include an image of disk system: RECOVERY, DRIVE (d), OS (c :))

"RECOVERY, DRIVE (d :))" in car is a partition of 2 GB of the hard drive internal, such as configured by Dell, and it is formatted in FAT32.  I tried to reformat the NTFS volume, but were unsuccessful.  I also looked at a certain way to omit this volume, but have still been in vain.
