Hello

It seems that Windows 2012 R2 is not supported as a host to vCenter 5.5 operating system is that correct? Anyone know when it will be supported?

Thanks for the replies.

  • Can RS 5.1.2 running on Windows 2012 R2?

I can't find any documentation clearly indicating whether or not SRM can run on Windows 2012 R2.  There are many implications that 2012 is supported, but never clearly states R2 is included and there is no SRM-> guest operating system compatibility matrix. Can someone point me to a document that clearly states that 5.1.2 can be installed on Windows 2012 R2?

In addition, my vCenter servers is only 5.1 U1c, and runs on Windows 2008 R2.  Someone raised a concern that vCenter SRM < must run on the OS even invited, but I don't see why this would be the case.  Can anyone confirm this?

    Hello

The SRM 5.x is compatible with the operating system host even as vCenter 5.x: see compatibility for vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.1 tables where it is said: "MRS. 5.1.x server runs on the same windows host operating systems as vCenter Server.» Once you go to the vCenter and host OS compatibility matrix: VMware Compatibility Guide: search guest conductor / you will see that Windows 2012 R2 is supported with vCenter 5.1 U2 and, consequently, SRM 5.1 U2.

There is no requirement that vCenter and SRM are running on the same host operating system.

In addition, OS VMware host documentation refers to the operating system where our products are executed. It can be virtualized, but SRM server point of view, he is the host. By guest operating system, we refer to the OS running in a virtual machine where our products interact with him on the outside - for example when SRM performs IP customization on a virtual computer, the operating system inside the VM is a guest operating system.

  • Windows 2012, WMIPRVSE. EXE WMI service loses memory

    Hi all

In my Windows 2012 9200 server, I installed the provider of LSI and I execute associateur queries to the LSI provider that interacts more with the WMI service that acts as a CIM Object Manager (CIMOM). When I run these queries, I see the memory use huge increase the WMIPRVSE. EXE service.

I was looking through some articles and got to know that it is a known problem. But Microsoft did not apply this question to the Server Windows 2012. Here are my conclusions,

Use of the maximum memory by the particular host: 536870912 Bytes. After which it would break and a new wmiprvse.exe would come to the top. I do not change this limit of memory because it is not the procedure to solve this problem.

Can anyone who has had this problem, could guide me?

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards

    Hello

Transfer your question in the Windows Server Forum.

  • Unable to connect hosts to vCenter

    Hello

I see this problem is well known, but after trying everything I found here or on the different VMWare KBs (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1027672), you are my last hope !

When I try to add a host to vCenter (via vSphere Client or vSphere Web Client), I have the following error:

    • Cannot contact the specified host. The host may not be available on the network, may have a network configuration problem, or that the management on this host services may not respond

    About versions of software:

    • ESXi 6.0
    • vCenter 5.5 (installed on a Windows Server 2008R2)
    • vSphere Client 5.5

    Here's what I CAN do.

    • The host can ping vCenter (both with IP and server name)
    • vCenter can ping on the host (with IP and server name)
    • DNS resolution works great
    • I can connect directly to the host with vSphere Client (and create a virtual machine, if I want to)
    • The host is not in "Lockdown" mode
    • The vCenter database is clean (MSQL Express, a small)
    • I tried to affect the timeout of negotiating SSL 12000ms, as it is mentioned in the KB, but the problem is still there
    • vpxa service is running on the host computer

If you have advice, information, even the smallest one, please share it!

Could this be a problem in version? A known issue with 6.0 ESXi and vCenter 5.5?

Thank you very much for your help!

    Yes, problem solved.

My mistake was that I just add the network configuration of the ESXi domain suffix, but I did not actually Add the ESXi host at the estate, with the permission of the administrator of the domain. (Now, it seems so obvious...)

So I had to plug directly into the host ESXi via Vsphere (in my case Windows), go to the configuration tab and add the host to the domain.

    After that, everything went well.

Thanks again Andrew for your help on this!

    Nice day

Also, is it still necessary to utilze vmResourcePool?

Open the vRO client and run the api Explorer and search for VcVirtualMachineGuestOsIdentifier.  I think the guy is Windows8Server64Guest.

I'm sure that specify a host and the pool resource are required, but you can derive the root of the host resource pool or a cluster if that is your goal.

  • Windows 2012 stuck on reboot

We run vSphere 5.5 U2, and we have a few Windows 2012 SMV and some 2012 R2 virtual machines.

It seems that when a reboot is initiated from an RDP session on virtual machines 2012 (not R2), they usually get stuck when rebooting on Windows screen with a circle of rotation. The only way to solve it is to reset the virtual machine.

In my tests, this happens if you try to restart the console (VM > power > comments to restart).

Has never seen this, or know a way to solve?

I saw this happen not only with Windows 2012, but also with Windows 2003. The reason - at least how I understand it - is related to the fact that the closure of the RDP session (not a console session) gets, the shutdown process could be killed, which leads to a situation that is not defined. What I usually do to avoid such a problem is to use shutdown-i who starts a process that is not running in the RDP session, but on the host directly.

  • Running Powershell script with ESXCLI commands via a scheduled task in Windows 2012 does not work.

I'm trying to run a powershell script of a scheduled task in Windows 2012. The script calls the commands ESXCLI and ends with success (exporting to a CSV file) but the file has no data inside.  If I run the script manually without the scheduled task file has all the I expect to exit.

I wonder if there is a framework with Powershell or a PSSnapin I need to add to the script for it to run via a scheduled task.  Has anyone done this before with the ESXCLI commands?

panhvr - you may to something.  The process account that I use to run this script has only read-only access in vCenter.  I logged on the server I am running these reports with the process ID and tried to run the script.  He gave me errors indicating permission to perform the operations of esxcli was denied.

I think we found the culprit!  I'll have this process ID in vCenter rights upward.

    Thank you all!

  • By selecting the right OS Windows 2012 comments

    Hi quick question.

We would like to deploy several (much more than two) Windows 2012 invited on several hosts.  I already know that we need to 'apply' licenses Windows Datacenter of 2012 for the host processors to make sure we can run an unlimited number of guest OSs.

My question is on the BONE which will run in VMware guest does anyone know if I have to use the Windows Server 2012, Datacenter Edition or Standard edition?

Just to remind, I read the official documentation from Microsoft and know I need to Datacenter licenses for guests, but he just States that I can only run several Windows guest operating system.  Don't know which edition to decide is it creatring model for all guests.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'd probably start with Standard - you can always switch to higher editions later if you need / must:

  • Problem installing VMWare Workstation on a Server Windows 2012

    Hello

I have problems when trying to install VMWare Workstation on a Server Windows 2012. Windows Server is Amazon EC2 environment and a generic image extended release.

The problem is that the installtion process fails because of "Hyper-V" during installation, but after investigating the option "Remove roles and features" I can see that it is not installed.

Is there any fixes for this issue?

I enclose three screenshots for you pleasure.

    Regards, Ray...

    Hello Ray,

Welcome to the VMware community forums.

You run an EC2 instance that has just 615 MB memory installed?

It's kind of a weird for a host, much too low for Amazon memory configuration, even be profitable.

I think that your server is running UNDER Hyper-V, for example. It is probably a Virtual Machine.

You can easily check that yourself by running the script from this site:

How Hyper-V to: detect if you are inside a virtual machine

If it's a Hyper-V virtual computer then I don't think you can install VMware Workstation on the virtual machine and run the nested clients.

You could do the opposite (invited running hyper-V in a workstation virtualized on vSphere) but is not very fast.

As you have no control over which platform virtualization Amazon use for their windows servers, I'm afraid you will have to go for a dedicated server instead of a virtual machine.

    Hope this helps,

    Hello, MrVmware9423-

It seems that this may have to do with the .NET Framework is installed on the computer on which you run PowerShell/PowerCLI.  Take a look at http://communities.vmware.com/message/2174319 - users have been able to solve the problem with a newer version of the .NET Framework (v2, installed v3.5 - success).

Because your problem seem (you use a? 2 version of .NET, and you're able to install a newer version)?
