windows 64-bit virtual machine installation

I'm trying to install windows 2003 Server x 64 on a virtual machine on vmware ESXi steps, but I always got the error below: thank you in advance for your help

You must enable VT in the BIOS of the ESXi host in which you try to install the x 64 comments.

Here is a list of Intel's VT capable CPU

I want to do a clean install on my new computer, so I can run Linux as main OS with Windows 7 on a virtual machine using VirtualBox.

Is it possible/legal? How can I activate windows?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I have an OEM windows license.

    See you soon / Erik

Yes, the end-user Windows 7 license contract permits.

    2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS.

    a. one copy per computer. You can install one copy of the software on a single computer. This computer is "licensed computer.

    b. a computer license. You can use the software on up to two processors of the computer under license at some point. Except as provided in these license terms, you cannot use the software on any other computer.

    c. number of users. Except as provided in these license terms, only one user may use the software at a time.

    d. other Versions. The software may include several versions, such as 32-bit and 64-bit. You may install and use only one version at a time.

    d. use with Virtualization Technologies. Rather than use the software directly on the licensed computer, you can install and use the software within the single virtual (or emulated) system on the licensed computer. You must comply with all national and international laws that apply to such protected content.

  • Can I use the same windows on my virtual machine?

I had windows pre-installed in my dell laptop (Latitude E6420). I did not have the cd key but I extracted using a program called Magical jelly bean key finder. Now, I have the following information on my windows installation

Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1
    Product no.: XXXXXXXX
    Installed from media "OEM."
    Product ID: XXXXX-OEM-XXXXXXXX
    CD Key: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    Computer name: XXXXX
    Registered owner: XXXXX
    Registered organization: Microsoft
Now, I want to install linux on my machine and use the current windows in a virtual machine inside the linux host. Is is possible if I completely uninstall this windows of my computer and reinstall the virtual machine with the same key?
I'm not very familiar with this also can someone guide me what are the steps I have to take if this is possible.

    Hi Andre,

Thank you for your answer, but this does not completely answer my question. I also read that OEM installation does not install the same windows on another machine (virtual machine is like different machine even if I do this on the same machine) and installation of the mine is OEM type.

More important still, how install windows in the virtual environment? If I format the computer and install linux, in addition to this install virualbox and install inside windows that use the cd - key and it will work. ? I doubt it because the windows is already activated in this machine.

The extract of the contract (EULA) for Windows 7 and applies to the retail and OEM of Windows 7 versions. So, Yes, you can reinstall it in a Virtual Machine.

Yes, you will need to format the machine under Linux, then reinstall Windows 7 in a computer program virtual suitable as Oracle Virtual Box 4.2, VMWare Player 5.0 or VMWare Workstation. You can then use the product key located on the COA sticker to reactivate the license.

  • The host CPU is not able to run 64-bit virtual machines

I am running VMWare Server Console on a Windows 2003 64 bit OS 1.0.3 and prepare to create a 64-bit VM server to test a new application on.  This forum server works on is a SuperMicro SuperServer 6025 B - TR +.  I entered the bios and activated the virtual bios in the CPU settings.  However, when I start my VM, I get the following error:

«You have configured the virtual machine as an operationg system 64-bit client.»  However, this host processor is not able to run 64-bit virtual machines or this virtual machine has 64-bit support disabled.

I looked online and saw some references to allow an EM64T which was to be activated but I do not see this option in my BIOS.  Someone at - it any other suggestions as to what I have to do to get the virtual machine to use the 64-bit compatibility.

Unfortunately, the 1.x server logs are a little sparse in this regard.  However, it seems that you have mixed steppings of physical processors.  In this range of models, Intel changed the VMCS review between the Bx steppings and Gx steppings ID, making it incompatible for the execution of VT - x.  Realizing their mistake, Intel has provided to OEMS for a microcode patch that makes the revision ID the Gx stepping VMCS matches that of the Bx stepping.  OEMs distribute this patch of microcode as a BIOS update.

In short, an update of the BIOS of your system provider should solve the problem.

  • 64-bit virtual machine in a cluster

I have 3 servers in a cluster that do not support 64-bit virtual machines. I want to add 2 servers to the cluster that will support the 64-bit virtual machines. Does anyone know how that will affect HA and DRS if those VMs need to migrate? They know that they can only go to the server that supports them?

    Thank you

    Scott

Yes, DRS will not migrate it.  You can always disable DRS for these x 64 you can just to be sure.

  • Windows in a virtual machine

    Hello

My X200s new comes with preloaded Vista Business and 3 CD marked as "Rescue and recovery disk for Windows XP" and "Windows XP Professional SP2 product recovery disc 1 & 2", respectively. " I want to repartition the disk, remove Vista in the process, install linux Ubuntu 64-bit, and then install Windows XP in a virtual VMware or VirtualBox machine. The question is, are provided enough CD do a XP install in a virtual machine?

    Thanks for the tips.

    Jakub

No, you can not install XP on a virtual machine with the CD restore provided with your device. You will need a regular XP installation cd and a number of key valid. It has to do with the fact that the restore cd should see a BIOS generic virtual machine rather than the true BIOS Lenovo and refuse to install.

  • The upgrade to 64-bit virtual machines

We have four ESX 3.5 with processors Intel Xeon E5335 servers. The virtual machines on all of our guests have Windows 2003 R2 32 bit. What should be done to make those 64-bit VMS? I am sure that the processors on my ESX servers are 64-bit capable.

    Thank you

Well, it's almost the same thing...

There is no way I know to move from 32 to 64 bits without a destructive installation.

    Best regards

  • Activate Windows: Run Windows as a virtual machine on Ubuntu: how to activate it?

I just got a Latitude 3550 with preinstalled Windows 8.1. I guess they were active OEM when I went first on the machine. Then I installed Ubuntu 14.04, formatting the drive completely (there is no ntfs partitions more, so Windows disappeared).

But since I paid for the windows, I would have liked to run using a virtual machine. Try an installation using the DVD provided with the laptop using VirtualBox, I wonder an activation code.

Do you know if it is possible to get one because I'm not using the original windows preinstalled?

Activation code? Probably say KEY of Activation for Windows 8.1?  Windows 8.1 is an update and should not be the pre-installed OS, it would be on the sticker on the laptop or it would be in the documentation that comes with it when you bought it.  Do you have one of these pieces of priceless gold paper and plastic with it?

If you have 2nd hand (from a private owner) she was probably preinstalled with 8.0 and then upgraded to 8.1.  If the answer is "Yes"; You must install 8.0 first and ACTIVATE it... before you run the upgrade to 8.1.

I'm trying to find a windows 8.0 site for download but only find 8.1...

  • Reinstall Windows XP in Virtual Machine on Windows 7

I have the Virtual Machine Windows on my OS Windows 7 Professional. This allowed me to install Windows XP on this computer. It worked fine for several months until, from one a few days ago, I cannot access the XP and have been advised by Microsoft to simply re - install the XP software and start again. When I try this, I said that the first step is to download and run a MS file named GenuineCheck.exe which is supposed to validate my system. When I try to run it, a note comes up saying that this file is obsolete. Do a little digging online, I told myself that this ony file works if you have Windows XP. What the definition of Catch 22? I have an XP corrupted in my virtual machine, so, technically, I have Windows XP. Any ideas on how I can be validated?

If you do not store a copy of the Windows XP Mode Setup file?

    WindowsXPMode_en-we

Click Start, type: programs and features

    Press enter

Scroll down and select Windows XP Mode, click Change/uninstall in the command bar

Restart when you have finished, and then try the installation again.

If you don't have a copy of the installer, you need to download again in Windows 7 Professional and reinstall:

Both Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC can be downloaded from http://www.windows.com/business/downloads.

  • Windows XP mode virtual machine does not start after the upgrade to Windows 10

    Hello

After the upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for Windows 10 Pro, my virtual Windows XP machine (which was created from the "XP" mode in Windows 7) no longer starts.

    It shows:

This system is not allowed to run "Windows XP Mode". Now, the virtual machine will be turned off.

How can I activate the Windows XP Mode in Windows 10 Pro? I mean, I have not lost my right to run Windows XP Mode, just because I've upgraded to Windows 10, right?

    VMware Workstation 12.1

    Hello

How can I activate the Windows XP Mode in Windows 10 Pro? I mean, I have not lost my right to run Windows XP Mode, just because I've upgraded to Windows 10, right?

I fear that the statement is pretty much on the mark.

Microsoft caught only supported XP Mode in Windows 7, it has been since Windows 8.

You might be able to extract the folder integer vhd it and import it in VMware Workstation as a separate virtual machine. In the end, 'XP Mode' just was running a virtual machine in your Windows 7 after all.

  • Guest OS (RHEL 6) on Virtual Machine installation

I am trying to install a guest o/s on a virtual machine that has been configured for RHEL 6. The plan is to use an ISO of a RHEL installation disc image, move the files to a data store on the vShere and set the CD/DVD from the virtual machine to point to the data store and restart the virtual machine, and launch the installation. This seems to be a fairly simple task, but it is anything but simple.

    DatastoreBrowse.png

    Files of ISO on datashare

Settings have been configured to point the CD/DVD drive to the ISO image to the data store.

    VMProperties.PNG

Configuration editor Setup CD to go to the data store ISO file

    Here are my questions:

1 is it something flawed by just copying the files from the ISO to the data store?

    2. If it is a correct way to place an ISO image on a data store, this file should CD demonstrate to get the installation running process?

    3. as an alternative, can I ignore the settings change and just the homepage vShere and connect the CD to? If Yes, which file that I connect to the CD?  (see image below).

    Any help greatly appreciated, thanks

Just point directly to the ISO file instead.

  • Can I print screen a window inside a virtual machine?

    Hello:

I tried to open a .vsd on my MacBook Pro.

Unfortunately, I don't have a version of Visio on my Mac.

So, when I opened the file, he opened my WIndows 7 Virtual Machine.

Can I do a printscreen of this window in Visio in a VM?

    If so, how?

If not, can I cut and paste of my Windows 7 window into a file in Word or PDF on my Mac?

    If so, how?

    Thanks in advance

I do this all the time...

    1. prepare the area you want to capture visible

    2. click on a space empty on your desktop to Finder the active application on your Mac.

    3. Press Cmd + Shift + 4 and the area you want to a drag-and-release screenshot

A new PNG file with the screenshot will be on your Mac desktop.

Of course, you can also get a print screen for Windows utility, but I prefer to keep as little on my Windows VMs as possible.

  • ESX ESX and 64-bit virtual machines

    Hello

For a specific need, I virtualize ESX in ESX. It's something that I did before without a problem.

Today, I need to run a VM for 64 bit inside the virtual ESX (which runs on a physical ESX that you understood).

When I start the 64-bit VM, I get the following message:

Host CPU is not compatible with the virtual machine requires at level 0 x 80000001 CPUID register "edx".

    * Longmode; required when a virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest OS
For systems with Intel processors, which allows to VT in the BIOS is required to support longmode.

Does anyone know how to enable VT on the VM to ESX from ESX VM BIOS is really basic, I can't find any option?

    Thank you

Nested ESX/ESXi hosts cannot run 32-bit VM... It is one of the limits very known execution of a nested host. Basically, the physical host is passing information to the virtual host that cannot transmit it (again) to the virtual machine running inside the nested host. You can send the info so far.
