    Exactly what virus was this?

Almost certainly you don't has completely failed to clean the
computer upward. Keep in mind the following three things:

    1. MalwareBytes anti-malware is an anti-spyware program and
    nothing to clean up viruses.

2 PC Tools antivirus is a bad choice of an anti-virus program. For
an antivirus program, I recommend eSet NOD32, if you're ready
to pay for it. If you want a free anti-virus, I recommend one (are not
run several) of the following three:

    Avira AntiVir
    Avast
    Microsoft Security Essentials

    3. in the course of the run Registry Mechanic has been a very bad thing to do and it can be
responsible for the problems that you are experiencing now. Cleaning the registry
the programs are all snake oil. The registry cleaning is not necessary
and is dangerous. Let alone register and do not use any registry
cleaner. Despite what many people think and what providers of registry
cleaning software try to convince you to have unused registry
entries is not really make you hurt.
The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner by mistake
delete an entry you need is much greater than any potential benefit
    It can have.

Let me stress that neither me nor anyone else who warns the
use of registry cleaners never said that they always cause
problems. If they have always caused problems, they would disappear from
the market almost immediately. Many people have used a registry
cleaner and never had a problem with it.

The problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with it
the risk of a significant problem. And since there is no
benefits of using a registry cleaner, running that risk is a very bad
    good deal.

  • After Windows Recovery virus, all programs, folders, and documents are hidden

Hey there. I think I just cleaned my old machine to windows XP from a virus apparently known as Windows Recovery using software Malwarebytes' Anti Malware. I have two questions:
    1. How can I be sure that I deleted everything about the virus?
    2. the virus seems to have converted all my documents, files and programs to the State that is 'hidden '. Here is what happened: at his first connection after removing all the stuff found virus, all items in my office were missing from the office, and no program was included in the area of all programs on the start menu. I did a few fishermen and found that all of my programs and documents are in fact still on the computer, but they just seem to be have a "hidden" attribute So I changed my settings folder options to "show the hidden files and folders" and now I see all my old files on my desktop and files, but they are all gray. If I right click on any file or folder, then click Properties, it still shows that specific file as 'hidden '. This attribute at this level then really UN-hides compensation file. How can I apply this to all files and folders instead of each individually?

In addition, I still don't see any programs in the field of all programs on the start menu. I must go to c:\Program Files and navigate so (unless I have a shortcut on the desktop or the start menu). No idea how to get my programs listed in the programs area all over again?

    Hi Lea4Stas,

Try the method of register: listed @ http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/forum/windows-xp/37769-unable-unhide-see-hidden-folders.html

You must copy under settings (in) - in Notepad and click Save as "restore.reg" in quotes.

  • Not all programs/Windows utilities are available for some reason any

    original title: data backup

I have an old Windows XP home pc.  Not all programs/Windows utilities are available for some reason any.  Where can I find the Windows backup feature?  I want to save my data files.

Windows backup is not installed by default on XP Home.  You can install it if you have a genuine Windows XP CD or if you download the full network for SP2 installation file: http://www.ntbackup.us/Articles/install-ntbackup-xp-home.htm

I suggest, however, that you not install NTBackup, but rather get a cloning/disk imaging application.  What follows is not free, but you get what you pay for.  NTBackup has some limitations (on the one hand, you cannot use NTBackup to backup to the optical media).  NTBackup also is not used in Vista or Windows 7, but after much kicking and screaming, Microsoft made a utility to restore NTBackup for Vista and Win 7 for computers with these operating systems could at least read BKF files created by NTBackup.

    Acronis True Image Home
    Paragon Backup & Recovery Home
    Casper
    Norton Ghost
    O & O

Ghost was the gold standard for imaging software, then became much less desirable, as well as with many Symantec products.  I understand that the current version is significantly improved.  Of the foregoing do not all have the same feature sets, but all should do a good job of backup and restore.  Some managers hard drive, such as Western Digital, do a version of one of these applications available for free if you use their readers.

  • Have a Windows update and my screens are all screwed up now, Please HELP!

I am running Vista Home Basic and day before yesterday when I rebooted my computer, a Windows update itself installed. He said he was installing 1 of 1 files. I knew the idea of what the update was for, but when I brought my system to the top of the screen and all open windows, including web screens are all strange and almost hourglass like? I tried to restore my system to three times, tried to adjust resolutions and even settings on my old monitor and nothing works. It also seems that all icons and things are a little bit bigger and I don't see anything on the left and the right of my screen. Can someone help me? The only thing that seems normal is the password screen that appears when I turn on my computer before I get to my home page? Any ideas?

    Hi PVneedshelp,

    Welcome!

I suggest that you try to system restore to the point before you install the update by using the Windows vista installation disc.
To use the Windows recovery environment, you must have the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc. To start the Windows recovery environment, follow these steps:
1 put the installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
    2. press a key when you are prompted.
Note If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions.
    3. Select a language, a time , and monetaryand a method of keyboard or input and then click Next.
    4. click on repair your computer
    5. in the dialog box System Recovery Options, click the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next
In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click System Restore to restore the operating system to the restore point created when the program or the driver has been installed.

Check out the link for more information below.

If the previous step fails, then I suggest that you uninstall the display adapter driver that is present on the computer and then install the latest driver for graphic map of the manufacturer's Web site and check if it works very well.

You must be logged on as administrator to perform these steps.
How to uninstall a computer device driver.
    1. open the Manager of devices by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. in Device Manager, look for the device you want to Update, and then double-click the nameof the device .
    3. click on the tab driver , then click Uninstall and follow the instructions.
Once the uninstall is complete, restart the computer and then install the driver to view CAD that you downloaded from the website of computer manufacturer.

Also suggest to run Windows updates and make sure that you install the availability.

    1. open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, all programsand then click Windows Update.
    2. in the left pane, click check for updates, and then wait while Windows searches the latest updates for your computer.
    3. If updates are found, click install updates. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    • You have problems with programs

.lnk are shortcut files (shortcuts are usually what you have on your desktop and the start menu).  If inadvertently, you tried to right click on a shortcut and choose "open with...". ", you can breaking their properties.

Because the associations are complex and the registry can be dangerous, the best way to solve your problem is to use the system restore to fix system associations when returning parameters at the same time that they last worked properly.  Here's how:

1 - Hold down the Windows key and type R to open the Run dialog box.

    2 - paste in this command: %systemroot%\system32\rstrui.exe

3 - follow the instructions to restore your system at a time before, it was working fine.

  • Windows 7 desktop icons are all links

Have a new windows 7. flying over my photos from the old computer. Some show a picture, so I right click for hopefully display image in an another photo viewer. I chose the windows photo viewer.  All icons on the desktop has changed so that icon and I can't open anything. They are all links

'All icons on the desktop changed to icon and I cannot open anything'. I assume this is the icon of the windows photo viewer?

I think that what's happened is that you used 'open with' on a shortened. You can check by going to control panel > programs > associate a file type or Protocol with a scroll of program LNK partner should say unknown. I suspect now is said however: Photo Viewer.

If so, there are two ways, this can be fixed. The easy way requires editing the registry but then you want to go this route.

    1. click on Start Menu, type regedit in start search and press ENTER. Right click on regedit search results and run it as an administrator.

    2. navigate to the following registry branch:

    NtVersion ntVersion\Explorer\FileExts\ [ext]

Replace the [ext] with the real extension of the file you want to restore the file type association to return to the original Windows 7 by default (probably .lnk). If you unsure, simply browse through all the Sub-touche under FileExts.

    3. delete the subkey named UserChoice.

    4. exit the registry editor.

The second method is a little more work, can't fix it, but does not involve the registry.

Since the default action is caused by the user (as it was accidental) choice, you can be able to restore everything simply by creating a new user account. See if the icons to return to their natural state, then knit. If so, just move all your files and folders and delete the old account. If you use Outlook, you also need to reset where it looks for files of Outlook, but it can be automatic (do not try to start Outlook until what everything is copied on the property). If you use this method, remember to copy the hidden appdata folder. Just show all before you begin the copy.
