Windows 7 firewall will not use recommended settings.

"My windows firewall does nothing, when I go to stop or start it or anything in this menu, there's something that says:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE YOUR FIREWALL SETTINGS

Firewall Windows does not use recommended settings to help protect your computer

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next there is a button with a shield and it says "use recommended settings".

When I click that button of my mouse is that loading thing where it is just a circle with no cursor, it makes for a while and then nothing happens when its done. the same screen is still there with the same handwriting. It won't let me access anything that either and I can't even turn off and on again to fix it.

I have Microsoft security essentials. It is a question that has been asked in 2010, but that is the exact problem I have and I can not find an answer.

I tried

netsh firewall reset - did not "netsh firewall is obsolete.

netshfirewall reset ADV - has failed to "an error has occurred then that he was trying to contact the windows firewall service"
netsh int ip reset - worked, but has not fixed the problem

netsh winsock reset - worked, but has not fixed the problem

Services

Base filtering engine is started and set to automatic

authorization for the firewall driver Windows not found in services, so I went to the Device Manager/no plug-and-play driver found windows firewall authorization driver, but he says it was launched.

Unfortunately, the methods you suggested did not work but I found a program called combofix and it solved my problem. But thanks for all the help you gave me.

  • Windows Live Photo will not use HP F380 for scanning

I have a HP F380 all-in-One on an Acer Aspire running Windows 7 32 bit. I have edited/reinstalled/restart the driver, run the printer if troubleshooting and when I hit the scan button on the printer it scans (will not let me change it), but live didn't do nothing despite knowing a scanner is attached. I tried to use the paint and Windows Fax and Scan, but when he tries to connect, it lags behind on and I have to use the Task Manager to close the programs.

  • Windows Firewall is not using the recommended settings and I have no control

    Operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate
All classes Microsoft offers updates installed from 19/09/12 @ 19:00
    _______________________________________________________________________________________

I recently discovered that I have seem to be 'locked' on my firewall settings.  I discovered it not because I had problems with my firewall or internet but because I went to control panel to change some settings of firewall and found this:

    http://oi49.Tinypic.com/2r3h387.jpg

So I press "Use recommended settings" and think computer for a few seconds and then nothing changes or happens.
My firewall seems to work very well, but why I can't access its settings?

The first thing I did was a scan of my computer with Microsoft Security Essentials and Spy-bot Search and Destroy.  Microsoft Security Essentials found a virus, but after I removed and restarted my computer the problem remains.

I did a lot of research on this problem before posting here then here are the following things, I've tried.  Every possible solution is fixed at 1 photo:

    _______________________________________________________________________________________

    Possible solution 1: http://oi48.tinypic.com/2ng55hi.jpg

When I type in "netsh firewall reset" this happens: http://oi46.tinypic.com/i2ouc1.jpg

The rest of the commands seem to work, but after that I restarted my computer it had no effect.

    _______________________________________________________________________________________

    Possible solution 2: http://oi46.tinypic.com/2vmeh6p.jpg

I do not have the other firewall on my computer.  I don't have Norton or McAfee that apparently caused this problem with other people.  There is no error message.

When I right click on windows firewall "restart" is greyed out, but I can press start.
Empty the column next to it with the State.  When I press start, it happens: http://oi48.tinypic.com/33cc4et.jpg

    _______________________________________________________________________________________

    Possible solution 3: http://oi47.tinypic.com/33nhu80.jpg

Method 1: Windows event controller does not exist.  The base filtering engine is started and also shows as running in the Task Manager.  Authorization of firewall Windows Driver is already set on request.

Method 2: SFC/SCANNOW not detected any problems: http://oi45.tinypic.com/11gj7fn.jpg

    _______________________________________________________________________________________

    Possible solution 4: http://oi46.tinypic.com/2lu30ut.jpg

Method 1: Even as a solution as Possible 3.

Method 2: I made a boot minimum and restarted my computer with ONLY Microsoft services (I disabled all startup unique programs and service not microsoft).  The problem persisted.

Method 3: even as Possible 3.

Method 4: Not applicable for me.

Method 5: I downloaded the antivirus and used today at about 18:30.  No viruses were found.

    _______________________________________________________________________________________
    I tried other things:

If I try to use windows firewall advanced in this case: http://oi47.tinypic.com/hu1y0o.jpg

According to Task Manager Firewall is not running and when I try to start it, this happens: http://oi45.tinypic.com/5vdddy.jpg

    _______________________________________________________________________________________

So far I have not found any that contributes to this problem.  Any help would be appreciated.

I think an upgrade on the spot or complete reinstall would be necessary due to unknown changes that may have been made by the virus. You must back up all your files by using the option to be sure. If you perform a full reinstall you should analyze your backup before restoring the files.

    Hello

What do you use for security?

If you are using an Internet Security Suite, it will have its own firewall and disables the default Windows Firewall.

And you should have only one firewall to avoid problems related to the operating system.

    You have not installed SP1?

If so, try a direct download of SP2.

    Hello BrickBone,

You need start using the Windows 7 installation disc and try startup repair options.

If your system is damaged and cannot access the menu system on your computer Recovery Options, you can access it using the installation disc of Windows 7 or a USB flash drive or with a system repair disc if you have created one previously.

To use this method, you need to restart (boot) your computer using the disc or USB flash drive.

    1. Insert the disc to install Windows 7 or USB flash drive, or a system repair disc, and then turn off your computer.

    2. Restart your computer using the power button on the computer.

    3. When you are prompted, press a key, and then follow the instructions that appear.

    4. On the page install Windows, or on the System Recovery Options page, choose your language and other preferences, and then click Next.

    5. If you are using Windows or the USB flash drive installation disc, click on repair your computer.

    6. Select the Windows installation you want to repair, and then click Next.

    7. In the System Recovery Options menu, click a tool to open it.

    Select the Startup Repair option.

Let us know if that helps.
