Windows 7 installation - event 'SMART' hard drive / failure

I recently upgraded to Vista Home Premium (shipped with dell in 2007 PC) for Windows 7 Ultimate.  Any upgrade went fine, except that when I rebooted, I keep getting an error of the Intel Matrix Storage Console that my hard drive reports that a SMART event and may soon fail.  I also get a dialog windows 'hard drive error.  I ran a check disk on this subject says bad clusters in windows multiple deletion (out of 10).  Then I ran a sfc scannow command and no violation of integrity.  My concern is that I don't really think that it is a bad drive.  Everything was fine before the upgrade to windows 7.  I went under device mgr and checked to make sure that the Intel Matrix Storage Console had a current pilot, he is listed as version 8.6.2.1012.  I clicked on "update driver", and he said it was common.  I have a SAMSUNG SP2504C hard drive.  At this stage I don't know how to proceed.

All ACTIVE errors are VERY important and SHOULD not be ignored.  SMART monitors the internal sensors of the 'health' hard disk and warns you of 'users' hard drives will probably fail.

You should consider replacing the hard drive or download the Samsung hard drive diagnostic software to test the integrity of the player.   (NOTE: diagnostic tests could erase the hard drive.)

  • Re: Satellite L650D SMART HARD drive failure, backup fails when only half

    Hello

I have a laptop L650D. I get the following error message
    "Disk0.
Your HARD drive has failed to predict INTELLIGENT works what monitors HARD drive operating status. Your HARD drive is facing a problem and SMARRT monitoring software predicts that the HARD drive will fail. Toshiba strongly recommends that you create a backup for the data on your HARD drive. Contact an authorized service provider to check your drive and buy a new drive for replacement if necessary. »
It then gives me the option to make a back-up.
I tried two times to make this backup and twice it almost 50% of fact and then it says there no :(
It only gives me the option to backup DVD drive, the ability to use another drive is grayed out and cannot be selected (I have a 1 TB drive external DRIVE connected via USB)

I always use the laptop, there not having yet. I copied all the pictures, documents and emails from my external HARD drive it will not be too devastating if it falls.

    Any suggestions?

I am trying to locate my receipt, because I think that's only a little more than 12 months since I bought it. Not sure if I can argue to get the HARD drive replaced under warranty, as it should last longer than what he has.

    Thanks in advance

If I understand you well you want to backup using Windows Backup and Restore option system, right? I put t really know if there is any sense to do this if the HARD drive is probably faulty.
What you need is the backup of your personal data.

My suggestion: buy external HARD drive, connect it to your laptop and copy all the important things on that external data. When you have a new HARD drive in your laptop, you need to install the new OS so I put t think you need this Windows backup.

    Hi Carolinelightfoot,

This error message occurs when the system could not read and write data to the registry file. The error indicates a problem with the registry.

    Method 1:

You can run a Checkdisk to see if there are drive errors that can cause this problem.

Check your hard drive for errors

Note: When you run the disk check, there is a chance of losing the data that you can take a backup of important data before you run checkdisk.

    Method 2:

You can also try to boot from a full version of Windows Vista installation disc and try to perform a restore of the system to WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment)

What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista?

    Hope this information is useful.

  • HARD drive failure, I would like to know how to get Windows 7 return on it.

Hello everyone, I had a HARD drive problem lately, but before moving on to describe my problem, here are the specifications of my laptop:

    HP Pavilion dv6 - 3264-ca

    AMD Dual-Core 2.2 Ghz processor

    6 GB OF RAM

    128 MB ATI graphics card

    750 GB Toshiba HDD

    Windows 7 64 bit

    The question:

Recently, I had a HARD drive failure very unhappy. The recovery partition is not even load. I tried to boot my laptop with Linux with the HARD drive always attached, and it would not read. I pulled the HARD drive and placed in a box drive HARD and he would not yet be supported on Windows XP or Vista or 7. However, it would read in Windows Device Manager as well as in the BIOS.

I need to extract some data priority there so I managed to recover all my data safe with a data recovery service, but now the drive is rendered useless. I was told a low-level format might be able to help him to be usable again, and if that were to happen, would then disappear the recovery partition in the process.

In addition, I would like to install Windows 7 64 bit on the disk, but the box your laptop came with an installation CD, which is quite frustrating. Is he that sort of HP can let me download Windows 7 through any warranty service?

I have a one year warranty on my laptop.

In closing, I would like to know if I can get back Windows 7 on my HARD drive for free, or if I have to go to buy new Windows 7.

All the tips of your kind people?

    Hello

    Here are two options.

    1. if you have (or can borrow) an installation disc Windows 7 at retail which is exactly the same version as your OEM installation - IE if your laptop comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit it is the version of exact details you need.

If you do not access to the retail drives, you can create an installation disk yourself - just download good picture disc from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD.

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/Download-Windows-7-ISO-official-32-bit-and-64-bit-direct-download-link...

Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key is located on the underside of your laptop when asked and once installation is complete, use the 'method of phone", described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want just a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally delivered with OEM Windows installations.

    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-Windows-7-by-phone.aspx

Additional drivers, you may need can be found here.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 you can order a set of replacement recovery disks using the link below - these costs about $30 if you live in the United States.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00810334

If you have a problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

  • 1720 smart hard drive detects imminent failure. do backup - how can I move my files when I get a new hard drive?

Hi, I have "1720 smart hard drive detects imminent failure" made a backup, Gather I have to get another drive. How can I transfer my windows vista / files to new drive? Help, please.

    Hello

There are different ways to do

and these methods depend on your hard drive work

hard drive manufacturers will normally provide the cloning to move your operating system software from the old to the new drive hard If your old hard drive still works

Search for information on this subject on their Web site

If you have vista business or ultimate, you can use the builtin vista complete PC Backup to move

    read the information below

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial145.html

or if you have vista home version you'll need 3rd party software

link below is an example of this:

    http://www.Acronis.com/homecomputing/products/TrueImage/index.html

also to put your machine how you bought:

    1. If vista is preinstalled, you should have a recovery on your old hard drive partition

You can recovery disks to reinstall on your new drive hard If the old drive still works

ask the manufacturer of the machine how

    2. contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

    3. or borrow a microsoft dvd vista

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • Satellite Pro P200 - Smart error "imminent hard drive failure".

Hello! I wonder if someone can help me.

Start the computer, the other day the S.M.A.R.T diagnostic program came suddenly on saying a "hard drive failure may be imminent," when I open the Intel Matrix Storage console, it says that the hard drive in port 0 has had a S.M.A.R.T event recorded against him but that of port. 2 is 'normal '.

Port 0 is the volume of the operating system on it and if so what would be the best way to back up the disk and what someone knows how to change the hard drive and how much approximately would this cost?

    Thanks for any help inadvance.
    Paul.

    Hello!

In my opinion, you should back up all the data as quickly as possible. In the worst case you could HARD drive might completely die and then you are not able to save the data on it.

After that you should swap the HARD drive. It s depending on the model of HARD drive you buy how much it will cost but drives hard are not so dear to our days. I think that it will be possible to get one for 50 Euros.

    Good bye

When I start the computer I get a warning: 1720-Smart hard drive detects drive not imminent failureATAO failing attribute # 5. How can this problem be solved?

The disc is defective, stop using the PC now, replace the hard drive with a new one and reinstall Windows using your HP recovery media.

Once you windows reinstalled on the new disk and the PC is running windows, fix the old hard disk on the pc using a sata to usb adapter, see if you can see the drive in Windows Expl. ORER, if you can copy out of your important files on the new drive C.

  • How can I empty the Windows installation on my hard drive?

How can I empty the Windows installation on my hard drive, please?  I was going to re - install, then I changed my mind.
Now, every time that I reboot, instead of launching Windows XP Pro, it try to run Windows installation.  The installation program appears as a second menu item under "Windows XP Pro" on the black screen at launch.

How can I remove it from the startup screen and flush it out of my system?

    Any correction, automated for this?

    Thank you.

It is difficult to determine what you did, but the symptoms you describe can be eliminated by editing the boot.ini file (you can also make things really difficult if you make a mistake when you edit the boot.ini file, so be careful).  Will not be "flush out the Windows installation" of your system, but it will stop the menu from appearing at startup time.

    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022

Your boot.ini file probably has a second line in the [operating systems] section.  Make sure that you delete only the line that points to the installation routine.

I have my own Windows 7 disk that can be used to install a lean and clean the operating system, however, it seems that the hard drive is not recognized without a sata driver any. I had to do this once with an HP laptop so that the Windows Setup CD see the hard drive. Unfortunately, I do not see such a driver downloads available for this laptop model. Can make you a suggestion on where I can find this driver?

    Hello:

With the material of your laptop, you should not need the driver but here is the link for those that you need...

The first file is for 32-bit and one for 64-bit.

    https://Downloadcenter.Intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=18668&lang=eng

To install the driver, download and uncompress the files that you need a USB FlashDrive without all records.

With the flash player and the installation of W7 media connected to the computer, boot from the installation of W7 media.

After selecting the install now option, select the training - Advanced menu, Options and select the option load a driver.

You should now see the storage driver files listed.

If you check the box, it only includes the compatible driver.

Follow the prompts and I hope, will install W7.
