Windows 7 Media Center - does not start due to a software restriction policy preventing the departure upward.

Installed Windows 7 upgrade Windows Vista a couple of weeks.  Media Center used to work under Vista, even if I don't use it much.  I can't even start program.  Using a HP Pavillion system.  Any ideas gratefully received.  Thank you

@ brooon:
While the suggestion of man will not help you directly (you have Home Premium, have no GPEdit), you can always check the registry keys that are affected by the policies mentioned.
(GPEdit is a nice interface to various registry settings, anyway.)

Take a look at the following keys:

HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsMediaCenter\MediaCenter

HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsMediaCenter\MediaCenter

A 0 = MC ValueData can work; 1 = MC is disabled.

Standard WARNING: improper modification of the Windows registry can have consequences and can prevent your system become unbootable (possibly requiring a reinstallation of the operating system.)  Be careful!!!

Don't change anything here yet.  It just open regedit and take a look at these two keys.  If they are there, after the ValueData displayed.  If they aren't there, after that they aren't there.

  • Windows vista media center does not I can uninstall and reinstall?

Windows vista Media Center has been installed, but will not respond. How can I fix this problem?

    Hello

    You cannot uninstall or reinstall

    Try this:

    Run the sfc/scannow command.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally madeprograms,Accessories, right-clickguest, and then clickrun as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or clickallow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:

  • Media Center does not start

OK, here's my question. I am running Vista Ultimate 32 Bit and my media center works not period. I get the error message "Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy" contact admin system, it's me. I do not assign any software restriction rule, then, what do I do, tried the remove files in ehome, did not work. also tried SFC / Scannow - Ditto...

    Well what now?

    Confused beyond belief

    Hello

    1. What are the files you delete the eHome folder?
    2. don't you make changes before the show?
    3. is the computer connected to a domain?

Deletion of system files will result in a malfunction of the operating system, therefore it is strictly not recommended to delete any system files.

Step 1: Restore the computer to an earlier time.
    1. Click Start, type system restore, click System Restore in the list.
    2. choose the appropriate date when the computer was working fine.
    3. follow the instructions in the wizard to complete the system restore process.
For more information, see this link:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/what-is-system-restore

Step 2: We recommend that you cross check if the problem continues in a new user account. To do this, try the following steps.
    1. open user accounts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click user accounts and family safety (or by clicking on user accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking user accounts.
    2. click on manage another account.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    3. click on create a new account.
    4. type the name you want to assign to the user account, click an account type, and then click on create an account.
5 restart the computer and log on to this account and check if you are able to launch Windows Media Center.

For more information about the new user account, see this link:

Try the steps and post back with the results, so that we can help you further.

    Hello

Windows Media Center is not able to detect my usb hybrid tv tuner in trying to set up live TV. When you try to solve any problems are detected, I downloaded the latest drivers and install and the device is listed as working properly in Device Manager.
It is a kworld atsc usb hybrid tv stick ub445-u
I am at a loss on what to do because there are several product reviews that say the tv tuner works very well with windows 7 with no hiccups...
Any help or steps would be appreciated!

Everything uninstalled and reinstalled media library but her has not helped either

KWorld hybrid TV Stick UB445-U USB 2.0 is a Windows 7 Media Center compatible tv tuner card, and there is no need to install any third-party application.

  • Pavilion m7650n PC Media Center does not start XP

    1. model: m7650n

    2 product number: RF254AA

    3. product name: HP Pavilion Media Center PC

The first error message is a black screen with white text:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

    Which suggests a corrupted registry.

Unfortunately, the system does not boot the recovery partition (F10).

I found that an article at support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 suggests starting the XP installation CD. I started a XP Media Center CD. That will load the drivers, but after saying Windows startup, he abandoned a BSOD:

Suggest to change the SATA mode in the BIOS RAID, AHCI or IDE. None of this helps to either.

Scanning of the hard drive on a well known system clean some viruses, but that has not changed the situation when you try to start the HARD drive again.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Laboratory TimC

    Hi Tim,.

Put the drive in another PC that you did before and back up your critical data. You can reformat the hard drive. Then reinstall the drive in your PC and set the SATA to IDE controller mode and save the setting. Reboot into bios and make sure that the resulting setting is saved.

Now, reboot and use your HP recovery disks to return your PC to a first day of factory condition.

  • Media Center does not open on Windows 8.

Recently built a new PC with Win 8 64-bit Pro and Media Center add-on bought.  However, whenever I click on the WMC icon, nothing happens. I installed a bunch of software on my machine, and some of it was a bit old stuff that I had to run in compatibility mode + install other updates (from / seller directly) to work to win 8. I have no doubt that if some of the older things may have pushed something - it seems, remind one of them wanting to install a .NET framework or something - but I don't know how to solve problems.

I tried to turn the checkboxes of the WMC feature and restart but that did not help. I tried to start the PC in safe mode to see if that would help solve the problems, but he did not. My ideas on how to solve the problems and if there is anything I can do in addition to trying the Windows 8 update (ugh). Any ideas to help me? The update would be worth trying? I really don't want to spend a whole day trying to track this one down and a lot of software that I'm not sure that the uninstall is the culprit or not. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • get this pop up message "a necessary component of the Windows Media Center has not started properly. Restart Windows Media Center.

    Original title: Windows Media Center

Whenever I try to add videos (or whatever it is) on my media center it will not add and I get this pop up message "a necessary component of the Windows Media Center has not started properly. Restart Windows Media Center.

And I restart it, but it still gives me the same thing whenever I'll add things. I also have the Extender for my xbox 360 and video flies never show there either. A few moments ago, I got this working with my xbox and everyhting showed, now it gives me fits. Can someone please help

    Try this for me:

    Task Scheduler (Local)-> library of Task Scheduler-> Microsoft-> Windows-> Media Center-> MediaCenterRecoveryTask

If this does not work, try this:

    1. open regedit by clicking on the start menu and type "regedit" in the search box and clicking on the link of the regedit program that opens.

    2. go in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

    3. click on the file --> export and save a copy of this portion of the registry where you can find later if you need IT.

4 Note the values in the column of data to "ProgramFilesDir" and "ProgramFilesDir (x 86(). (If you have only one of those that, don't worry. I think that only users of Windows 64-bit will have both, but I don't know.)

    5. If you have a standard installation of Windows, the right for "ProgramFilesDir" column should read "C:\Program Files" and the right column for "ProgramFilesDir (x 86) ' should read"C:\Program Files (x 86)"." If they are not, try changing them to these values. To do this right click on the name in the left column and selecting Edit. Copy the 'correct' value of this message in the data value field in the box that opens. Click OK , and then do the same for the other (if you have two).

    6. RESTART. It will not work until you restart your computer.

    7. Open Windows Media Center and see if the problem is resolved.

  • Windows Media Center does not record the calendar.

Planning to record a program, but sometimes lapsed time up to the point where it does not record. I am running Windows 7 Home. Yes, I checked preferences but which differs only up to 15 minutes max.  I have reinstalled twice already. Why please?

    Hello

    (1) did you make any changes before the show?

    (2) what is the brand and model of the computer?

Windows Media Center records the first home run HD programs or any which TV tuner installed. However, you may need to follow a few rules.

-If you turn off your computer, Windows Media Center does not have a regular program. The computer must be turned on or "standby mode" to record a television show. The computer will not automatically in standby mode if Windows Media Center is open.

-Make sure that you turn off the screen and lower or turn off the sound if you have one at the request of a record in the middle of the night and don't want to be disturbed.

-Your scheduled recording may not save in the following situation: schedule you a recording in Windows Media Center to start in less than ten minutes, close Windows Media Center and put your computer into standby or hibernation mode immediately. Use or one of the following options to save your record programmed:

    a. do not close Windows Media Center before you put your computer on standby or hibernation.
    b. after having programmed a recording, wait a minute before you put the computer in standby or hibernation.
