Windows 7 sorting

Hi all

Since the upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium, I was really annoyed with Windows Explorer's sort order.   It is mainly the My Music folder I have problems with.   The sample files that I have are:

4 strings - day
4 strings - Daytime (Gizeh Remix)
4 strings - day (Radio Vocal Edit)

Now the above sort order is exactly what I expected, but Windows still sort like this:

4 strings - Daytime (Gizeh Remix)
4 strings - day (Radio Vocal Edit)
4 strings - day

In other words, he always puts the elements with a hook opening "(" first!   Is it possible to stop this?

I use Home Premium so do not have access to the Group Policy Editor.

Thank you
Gary

Hello

The arrangement of the information sorting in Windows Explorer is by design. It cannot be changed. The only way around is to save the files with additional information to sort.

I hope this helps.

  • Vista: Explorer of the window incorrectly sort

When using Vista Home Premium, I find that when I try to sort the information, it is not sort them correctly.  The most obvious example is when I ask him to sort a folder by the Date of the taking or editing, it is not to sort the object correctly, I will find new files to the top and clearly apart from other things that are not close enough to the same date.  Because I watch a lot of photos and go through those, I have to be able to find recent photos taken and quickly.  XP never had this problem, so I wonder why it is on Vista?

    Help would be wonderful.

  • Windows Explorer for Windows 7 - How to stop automatically sort my files

I have Windows 7.  Explorer Windows automatically sorts my files in each folder.  I put in "sort by..." Name ', so for now he is sorting alphabetically, but no matter what I put in 'Grading', it does it automatically.  But I want to be able to move the files to the folder in different orders, and then once I'm satisfied with the order, then I can change the name of each file and then choose to classify them alphabetically or otherwise.

For example, this is useful for a folder full of photos.  Let's say I have a folder with 50 photos in there of holiday, and I would like to re - order these photos, but I want to play visually with different orders until I have decide to order, I like most.  So I want to move each file/photo until I like the Decree.  To do this, I would open this particular folder in Windows Explorer, then select the "Large icons" view and then moving the photos until I like order.  And then once I have pictures in the order I want, then I would like to rename each picture (1, 2, 3, etc.) and then Windows Explorer say "sort by...» Nu.  That's how it was on my old computer, but I got XP and now I have Windows 7, but I can't imagine that Windows 7 would not let me do the same thing.  But the way it works for me now, Windows Explorer comes automatically orders/sorts my files depending on the option "sort by" I chose.  So if I change the name of the files (from 'Photo #25' to ' Photo #10 "'), it automatically goes this photo between" Photo #09 "and" Photo #11 ".»»  And if I try to move 'Photo #10' next to say "#37 picture"to see how they look next to each other, it won't let me. "

so... Is it possible to have Windows Explorer "NOT" sort my files until I have to say?

See auto arrange links below - it is possible to disable.

Microsoft has deliberately removed the ability to turn off the auto arrange. Microsoft's response:

Can I manually organize files in folders?

Unfortunately when Microsoft Windows Explorer, they made some pretty horrible decisions - which many people complained. There are a lot of other managers of files available, as well free and for a price. One of them might be easier to use and the characteristics you want, here is a list of the most that are available:

How to fix the Bug of scrolling in the left pane
See the bottom of this post for help with the bug of scrolling in the left pane.

The most important features that need to be returned to Windows Explorer:

    (1) the option to turn off the auto arrange.

    (2) fix the Bug of scrolling in the left pane: If you view a folder and expand in the left pane to display its subfolders, the folder is annoyingly prefer to the bottom of the component causing the subfolders do not appear, making it difficult to work with.

    (3) when several files are selected they should stay selected when changing the sort order (ex: name of size). Maintenance of the files selected in the sort should be a requirement, and this feature should not have been removed.

    (4) the option to remember the view settings of each folder (Recalling the positions and sizes of the individual folder window).

    (5) the option to remove 'Complete the selection of lines' to see in detail. "Selection of whole lines" is very annoying when the file is complete and has no empty space to click on. Also, when dragging / delete the file to another folder - if you release the on the line of a subfolder or file de.exe/.zip/.rar 'selection of whole lines' causes the file to be moved in the subfolder ou.exe/.zip/.rar instead file the file provided.

    (6) a search engine with all the advanced search options. No required syntax.

    (7) the option to always display free disk size space and record on the State and/or the details pane toolbar. Also always automatically show the size of the selected files (when several files are selected it will not show the total size).

    (8) the ability to scroll the window/pane mouse is with the mouse wheel, even if this window/pane is not selected.

Using the classic interface to restore functionality of Windows Explorer

After you have installed the free Classic Shell , you can customize Windows Explorer more closely to how you want it, the quote below is just a way to do it. Click here to see some of the options that you can customize, and here is the FAQ page.

A solution that worked for the restoration of some features.

    (1) install the free classic Shell. It's free, completely customizable and works like a mod for Windows Explorer, rather than a full blown replacement. Personally, I did not fit the classic Start Menu option, but you can if you wish.
    (2) restart the computer.
    (3) launch Windows Explorer and turn on "Always show Menus" (it's just for the configuration, you can disable it again later if you want).
    (4) make a right click on the menu bar and turn in the "Classic Explorer bar. This adds a series of icons for cut/copy/paste in Explorer. Basically, it also adds the "Configuration" icon
    5) go to the configuration and from there you can edit things to your heart's content. To kill the horrible record-jumping 7 Windows, place you Vista in 'Style Navigation pane. You can even go more retro and hit return to XP mode if you want (this adds lines to the tree of folders and adds a classic icon "+" for the expansion of folders).
    (6) set the parameters of other institutions. I have so that the bit "more details" in the dialogues of copy is automatically extended, I checked the option "display free space and size of the file in the status bar" (no need to right click on the drive to see how much space is left), personally, I decided to stay with the "overwrite file" dialog box Windows 7 style (the default is the simplest dialogue style Vista/XP) , and I went for the Windows Vista style folders display that looks about the same as the view from Windows 7, but get rid of the horrible jump.

After that, you can activate the toolbar and menus walk back to explore if you wish. Explorer Windows seems largely the same, but folders is no longer jumping around.

Now if only MS allows to code correctly so that we don't have to mess with third-party applications to get Windows actually works...

  • How to remove permanently free game players out of my control panel Windows XP computer?

I would like to know how do I permanently remove/add free game players out of my control panel (Windows XP).  I tried to get this game but it remove it from my control panel.  Your help is appreciated.  Thank you.

I'm not familiar with the subject, what you write about, but I have a few
    thoughts anyway:

Control Panel items are special files with the .cpl suffix, in
    \Windows\System32.

I don't know how to identify the name of the file of the control icon
Group of experts, but you can try glancing all objects in \windows\system32,
Sort by type, and then look at the dates - most of them will be the same
-those that are unchanged in relation to the date of the operating system has been issued. See if you
spot which could be crime may file and consider renaming - if she
is currently game.cpl, try game.cpl.bad for example.

See if you have found the right method. If this isn't the case, rename it back and try another.

Once you have the correct file, you can just leave it alone, or remove
    it.

  • How to stop a file from the application of a sort order on the files

Under Win XP, how can I have a folder of photos in my pictures are in the order that I copied them in Windows instead trying to sort by a file attribute, as the name.  Whenever I get close and reopen a file, Windows has sorted them rather than leaving them in the order I have left.  I want to see my photos in a defined order, without having to rename all the files.  If Windows MUST sort the files somehow, it is an attribute of file to apply a number of sequential file or another technique?

You can simply give up using windows Explorer, but use instead something more advanced like windows photo gallery.

also, here is some info on the Organization of photos:

This is useful, but it would be great if it was possible to have windows to keep the single file and not resorted to ALL files.  No there is no way to do this?

I am often merge sets of images and achieve only look one that certain images should go in a different order, that I copied them originally.  Maybe it's a way of to the point that the file is finalized, I could reset the Date of creation or the other attribute so that the suggestion of DatabaseBen would continue to operate?  I know there is a way to change the attribute Date of creation for all the same value, but then it would not be a way to sort on it at all, if the attribute was similarly?  I tried to assign the sorting order to an empty attribute, hoping that Windows would not use a second attribute for sorting, but it seemed to return filename for alphabetical sorting.

Thanks for any advice on this puzzle!

  • Windows 7 hard drive stolen when idle and during programs execution system

I can hear my hard drive C beating away when my system is idle, and even though my system is running programs.

Think it might be Firefox that uses the hard drive much - checked, uses the hd a little, but not more than usual, but I can still hear the hard drive clicking suite. So I close Firefox. Still ongoing.

Tried to switch browsers Chrome, and even has a lot more use of the disk by cycle Firefox did. But no matter whether Chrome is open or not, I can still hear the beating of hard drive.

Tried to use IE as my main browser, still no luck.

I checked on the Windows Task Manager, but no 1 process shows a lot of the use of the disc. I tried then to resource monitor and 'System' appears at the top of the list of processes sorted by use of the disk. But there are a lot of sub-thingos (forgive my ignorance of jargon) ongoing enforcement under 'System', while originally the beating of disc?

I disabled the process that has been suggested on the forums, without any change in the use of Windows Media network share drive.

Then I saw a thread in which someone talked about disabling Marvell / RAID drivers remains other manufacturers (where the system has no installed RAID array) slow down its use of the disk.

I have no RAID array on my PC either and noticed a Marvell driver under the heading 'System' using SysInternals Process Explorer.

I also noticed that some other drivers stray, maybe one of them is originally the use of disk problem?

It is terribly random - will start and continue for 30 to 40 minutes and then stop for hours, then start again.

I don't think it's a virus, as I have Avast! and can use the shield of file to control what files Avast! analysis - strangely, although I hear the hard drive in use, Avast! does not pick up/scan all files that the disc is supposed to be using.

Here are the various screenshots that I downloaded in the hope that someone can help me solve this problem of disk hard until it wears out and dies a lonely premature death: P - thanks

I downloaded SysInternals Process Monitor of

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/Sysinternals/bb896645.aspx

But the program is much more complex than Process Explorer and I have no idea how to use it.

Can someone tell me please how to run a trace through the events that may help determine which of the processes analyzed in running process monitor is / are the ones that are causing high disk usage?

    An analysis more

Restarted in safe mode (without network) and entered the resource (part of Windows 7) monitor and SysInternals Process Explorer (in Microsoft TechNet) to see if I could pinpoint the problem.

All the time, I was in safe mode, the hard drive kept in fly! : O

I started first of all resource monitor and saw that the 'system' with the PID of 4 remained the more intensive process of disk. Using the disc went from 100 KB/s to 1 MB/s as before when you are connected to Windows 7 normally.

    I also saw

    svschost (netsvcs),

    Svchost (secsvcs)

    Svchost (dcomlaunch)

    and like other processes

    wmiadap.exe

wmiprvsv.exe appear. 2 wmi processes disappeared after a short while leaving svchost and remaining 'System '.

I closed the resource monitor shot to the top of Process Explorer and found some weird-looking process:

Under wmiprvsv.exe, there was a file called locale.nls, with no manufacturer name/description (unlike some other services/sys files having a "Microsoft Corporation" as their name)

Under each of the svchost.exe process, out of all the files that have name descriptors (Microsoft Corporation), there was a little without name descriptors that caught my attention:

A file that found in Windows/Globalization/Sorting/Sortdefault.nls

A file called locale.nls (sorry don't remember the location of the file)

A file that found in Windows/Registration/R00000000000.clb

A file that found in Windows/System32/C_28591.nls

All the files above with the exception of the R000000.clb one found in svchost, lsass and csrss.

The R00000.clb file was found only in svchost.

I noticed these files because they had no name description next to them - could all of the files I mentioned contribute to the problem of the use of disc?

Hard drive stolen continues even after I Logout

I have my own PC and use an administrator account (not the default "Administrator" account, but my own account with administrator privileges).

I tried logging my regular account and another account limited, I have on the PC. Not only the disk thrashing hardcontinue while I was connected and on the screen of welcome, but he continued even after I had connected to the limited account.

Ive used Director in xp, but this live version in windows 7 gives me a headache, any help much appreciated.
    Thank you very much.

I have 383 video clips in a folder, they came on the record, when I transferred from my stringing cam, but now I want to change them and put them on a disk, but they are not in order. IE first 19th day of holiday but some clips are at the bottom of the file and say that June 30 is the first, in other words just everything involved, I want to that they in order so that when I drag them to the edit window, they are at the correct date and time sequence, I don't have start by clicking on each of them and looking at the properties and see the date and time , then their numbers as a result, 1 2 3 etc, but I ended up with just a mess, so have essentially just slung the in the video folder, I can access by clicking on documents, then videos, all I want is to get them in the order as fast and simple as possible.
Thank you much for the help expected.

    ===========================================
    Something to try...

Windows normally sorts filenames first alphabetically and numerically.

If you open the folder the videos are in and go... View / details...
You can choose the Date Modified column and it can sort them.

To maintain this order for Movie Maker, the files must be
numbered while in the order you prefer.

This can be done in a batch...

Navigate to the folder in which the files are saved... (not in the photo gallery
    but in the actual file)...

OK when the videos are sorted... Reach... Edition / select all... Right-click
the first video in the selected list and choose... Rename... to enter a
a descriptive word for the Group and the number (10001)... do not forget the
extension (.?) is included... leaving a space between the last
    letter and the first parenthesis.

    Birthday (10001). ???

When you press on... Come in... Windows should rename other
files. If it works as it should... When you import into Movie Maker...
the files will be in order.

    Good luck...

    See this support article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/sort-bookmarks-quickly-find-ones-you-want

    • "Tri" is done at the file level only, level up to a line of separation, if you added one of them
    • first of all, followed by individual bookmarks folders
    • 'gender' does not extend in the files, unless it has been changed recently - if you have a multiple-level folder structure, can sort must be made in each case and each level, iirc - I only 2 levels deep when you set up folders, YMMV so when go deeper

And to see this last paragraph: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/sort-bookmarks-quickly-find-ones-you-want#w_sorted-views-in-the-library-window the sort order (by using the view above) in the library of the window is for viewing only and will not appear in the bookmarks menu or button bar. It's a 'view' temporary 'comes out' which lasts as long as the windows of the library is open.

    Hello

I have a problem with my new battery. Initially, I had a battery ASM 92 P 1064 in my IBM Thinkpad R51 1829,

that was no more that he has aged.

So I replaced it with an original IBM battery (92 P 1090 ASM). She needed some time before he started first of loading, but then it was fine.

I loaded up to 99% and then wanted to test its ability. It worked absolutely fine for the duration of an hour but then my laptop (I use Windows XP) sort of frozen. There are still abot 70% capacity left.

I rebooted and it froze again. I fully drained the battery and recharged, but it also did not help.

When it is frozen I can't do anything more. Same Ctrl + Alt + Delete does not work. That the office still works (it only goes black when the battery is empty...)

The power adapter, my computer works without problem.

So, what could be wrong on this new battery? Hope that there is someone who could help me...

  • "Not enough memory to run the Titanic"

Basically I'm playing an old game of Windows 95, Titanic and I changed the compatibility, but now it says that I don't have enough memory to run it. I deleted some programs, done the cleaning disc too. I have not any open programs. It is said to the press compact to compact memory but when I do nothing happens...

Ive just run a google search and some say that they got it running in W7 by playing with the compatibility settings, esp the resolution of the screen (640) and 256 colors, as well as disabled themes. Others say that he needs all o parameters. Have you tried all these various combinations.

Another site said he needed W95 compatibility mode, and another said that it works under XP SP3.

Not sure why there is so much to mix and match however?

Try the first three parameters (res/color/themes) W7, that fails try under W95 (compat) and XP - SP3. If this fails, try all 5 with the same combinations.

If you have an older Windows 95 operating system (or maybe an old W98) or even XP if you know runs in that, then you can be able to run the game in one of the free programs "virtual machines", i.e. of W95 running in a virtual machine actually running in W7. Something like http://www.vmware.com/products/player/faqs.html or http://www.virtualbox.org/ perhaps (good read) but you will need a valid MS OS W95/98 to install in the virtual machine.

It comes BACK http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOS Windows 95 sort of 'sat' on a subset of BACK as I can remember, like W98, and to a lesser extent WME. Some of the older games initially ran in the BACK. I had a game installed in Windows 95, but I had to boot into DOS mode to actually complete.

  • Why the owner listed in the changing properties of file on our shared drive?

I'm going to create a file from my computer (let's say is assigned the name "USERS/Person1") and save my company shared drive.  Let's say that others who have access to the shared drive can open the file from another computer, to save the changes to the file using their computer and even move the file to a different location in the same shared drive.  When I return to the properties of the file under 'Détails', sometimes 'owner' is still listed as "USERS/Person1" and sometimes he changed to someone else as "USERS/person2.

I want to be able to search all the files I created showing the category of 'Owner' as a column in a window of browser windows and sorting so that all files of USERS/Person1 will appear together.  I can't be sure that I am looking for a complete list of the USERS/Person1 if there is a process that is reassign the owner without my knowledge.  I've experimented in opening a file that I know I created originally (which now showed "USERS/person2" as the "owner") and recording a change for her.  The name of the owner has not changed to USERS/person2.  I also know that the USERS/person2 does not manually go and change the permissions of file for that particular file attribute itself as the 'owner '.  I think it's a process making users who, unbeknownst to us, change the ownership of the file.  Yes - What causes a modification that is designated as the "owner" in the properties of the file?

I actually thought about it myself...

Files are sometimes the owner of the owner of the FOLDER.  So just create a new folder of computer USERS/Person1, move all the files in the old folder that has been created/corrupted to show the USERS/person2 as owner, and then the new folder with all the old files now in it will show USERS/Act.1 as the owner under file properties.  Keeps all the date created, modified files, other information properties the same (except for the new folder, of course, that has a new date of creation).  Thus, it keeps all the other info, but puts the appropriate property so you can finally pick up in person!

Not a complete solution.  And still no response as to what process actually happen in the first place...  But at least now I can easily fix a set of files very quickly (without making attempts to open each file, make a change, re-register and then have even not reflect the new owner because the control record had the wrong user listed).
    Boo - Yes!
