Windows 7 Starter Installation hassle!

Hello Microsoft community.

I am having trouble making a clean installation of Windows 7 Starter. I have a netbook Lenovo S10 - 3 that came with Starter pre-installed, and due to problems on the netbook, I'm wanting to reinstall Windows to improve performance. Normally on a netbook I just use boot recovery of society, however, Lenovo recovery software is cheesy and basically refused to play ball.

I tried a number of things, obviously with it being a netbook, there is no disc provided due to lack of hard drive, so I tried to boot via USB using the method detailed in this post:

http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-windows_install/Windows-7-Starter-clean-install-without-disk/bc4d6d69-f086-492d-913e-e2a123c556a6
However the option to choose from the different editions of Windows is not presented to me during installation, so it simply install the edition of ISO, I downloaded. I can't seem to find someone who has suffered similar problems and have tried several different versions of the ISO standard ensuring that I get a version 32-bit bootable (X 17 - 58996.iso)

I'm really looking forward to get the Starter edition working on the netbook, not because I like it, but because I have a valid product key and feel that there should be a legitimate method to install it from scratch instead of using the recovery software company, which installs often a bunch of bloatware and other crud that gets in the way , slow further my already low netbook of the range!

Any help would be very welcome, google seems to lack of useful advice, and I've tried several times to make it work!
SEE YOU SOON

I dug up a few last messages

The important conclusion of these messages is that the ei.cfg removal utility does not work.

It seems that you should manually remove the ei.cfg file.

So, for the last time, that give a try.

And if that does not receive you, then call Lenovo, you have and aspire group crud.

Andrew, if you always follow this message, please update your writeup otherwise spectacular.

  • Windows 8 start problem, due to an accidental installation of Windows XP on another partition

I had Windows 8 Pro on one partition and Windows XP SP3 on another partition for some time and I could choose which start. I decided to remove Win XP and format the partition on that Win XP has been installed. I tried to do it by using formatting option Win XP CD that appears before installation; However, I accidentally installed Win XP on the same partition. The problem is that my laptop is no longer recognizes Win 8 and begins on Win XP. I was wondering if by any chance I could collect Win 8?

Furthermore, the Win 8 partition is installed, is intact and healthy with all the files inside Windows. Also, I tried to update or reset the installation of Win 8 to help to win 8 DVD, however, it did not work; as a message appears saying that the drive is locked.

I thank very you much for your time.

    Hey Amir,

It seems that the boot loader is damaged. You need to install the earlier operating system first, and then install the latest operating system. If you do not have (for example, if you install Windows XP on a computer that is already running Windows 8), you can make your system unusable. This can happen because earlier versions of Windows do not recognize the startup files used in more recent versions of Windows and can overwrite them.

As you have reinstalled Windows XP on a computer running Windows 8, it has destroyed the boot loader.

    Follow these steps.

We need to rebuild the Boot Configuration data (BCD). For this we need an installation of Windows 8 media.  If you do not have an installation, you can create a.

  • Cannot start the Recovery Console Windows from the installation CD

On my MacBook I ve running in VMware Fusion 3.0.1 a Virtual Machine with Win XP Pro.

When I reboot Win XP Pro and start again from the Windows XP Pro installation CD, I can see the "Welcome" with the menu screen

-To install Win XP now, press ENTER

-To repair an installation of Windows XP using the Recovery Console, press r.

-To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

When I click ENTER or R, I see the message

-The installation program did not find any hard drives installed in your computer. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.

Today the question? In the 40 GB of the virtual machine, I have two free partitions of 10 GB and 20 GB Win XP Pro execution. Why see Setup cannot process this partition?

I ve also installed a second Virtual Machine, but the installation of VMware Fusion not show the "Welcome" screen, but it installs both Win XP Pro.

What must I do, to start the Recovery Console in VMware Fusion? Or another question: when merging does support the Windows Recovery Console?

Wow, nothing indicates that you use a German version of Fusion that your English is excellent.  Anyway as VMware headquarters is in the United States, like me, I always provide information in English and information-specific guidelines in the VMware Fusion help files come from the English version as well as any Documentation from VMware that I reference.  I say this next part as a general and not directed comment towards you, as you have noted your using the German version... Any person requesting help must always at least include technical information referencing manufacture, make, model, version, and language other then English, material goods and software involved in issues.  We'll find a good reference for the type of information that must always be included in HOWTO: ask (and answer) Questions.

As a much get into the BIOS if you use the Fusion 3, you don't need to enter the BIOS to change the boot device as this can be done in the settings now however to enter the BIOS for other things that need/want of press you F2 directly after starting the Virtual Machine and after having clicked on the screen but the av VM boot so fast that it's easily missed.  You can add the following settings to the file of configuration .vmx of the Virtual Machine to slow down the startup so that force once in the BIOS.

    bios.bootDelay = "3000"
    bios.forceSetupOnce = "TRUE"

The bios.bootDelay is in milliseconds and the bios.forceSetupOnce Boolean value is then set to FALSE, automatically.  Each of these parameters are independent of each other.

Notes: Creating an ISO Image of the CD/DVD drive

When you use utility disk in order to have a bootable ISO Image, you must select Master CD/DVD without encryption in which case by default, it will have an extension .cdr file and in version 1.1 of the merger and later does not need to be changed in .iso, although one can if one chooses to. A default .dmg image is compressed and is not bootable, as an uncompressed .dmg will start if changed in .iso and of course the source CD/DVD should be bootable in the first place.

To create an ISO Image using disk utility...

1 insert the CD or DVD disc into the optical drive of your computer.

    2. open disk utility (/ Applications/Utilities/Disk utility).

    3. Select the CD or DVD drive in the list of disks and volumes.

    4. Choose file > new > "Disk Image from (name of the disc)."

    5. type a name for the disk image.

    6. choose "DVD/CD master" from the Image Format pop-up menu.

7 choose "none" from the encryption pop-up menu.

    8. click on save.

  • Windows XP Installation problem with Windows 7 Starter home

I was told that I would have no problem of family Windows XP Setup on a new computer comes pre loaded with Windows 7 Starter.

When I insert the CD with Windows XP, I get the following:

    Run setup.exe

I click on install Windows XP

Program is blocked due to compatibility issues.

Setup cannot continue because the version on the computer is newer than the version on CD.

Anyone know how to solve this problem and install Windows XP?

    Thank you Don

    Hello

I understand that you want to install Windows XP on Windows 7 Starter Edition.

    (1) is the retail Windows XP version or OEM version, you are trying to install?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. As the operating system installed on your computer is newer than the operating system you are trying to install.

To resolve this problem, you need to do a clean install to install Windows XP, and you try to run Windows 7 Setup, it will not work. So, I suggest you to boot from the XP CD (if necessary, first change the boot order in the BIOS) and follow the instructions for a clean install. It will initially format the drive for you, so make sure you back up everything you don't want to lose to external media first.

I hope this helps. Try the above steps and get back to us for assistance. We will be happy to help you.

  • Cloned Partition Windows not start (Winclone)

    Hello

I spent last night couple with this problem and just can't fix. I need Windows on my 2008 iMac, but I replaced the optical drive with an SSD, so I can't install it via the original DVD. Installation via the USB does not work either because it does not support the 2008 iMac. So, I used Winclone to clone the Windows Partition of my Macbook Pro and restored on my iMac. But it does not start. At boot on the Windows partition, I get the famous black screen with the blinking cursor.

I read that you can make this partition bootable by selecting "Allow Legacy bootable" of Winclone. I can't do that because Winclone always says that SIP should be disabled. I've disabled (State of csrutil in the Terminal says it is disabled), so I do not understand why Winclone won't do.

Does anyone knows how to solve this problem with Winclone? Or do I have to use another way to make it bootable?

    Thank you

    Tim

Have you run SysPrep on Windows of MBP installation before trying to restore? What is the year of the MBP? What version of OS X makes the installation Windows come and what version of Mac OS X is being restored to?

SIP requires that you turn it off before starting a restore Winclone.
