  • Windows Vista updates (12 April 2010) broke all the desktop shortcuts

On 13 April, I fist notice this problem. I managed to it is resolved according to restore my computer to a previous point prior to the windows vista update have been installed. I didn't create a new restore point and also forgot to uncheck "automatic installation of windows. A few days later, the same problem after updates have been installed again on April 15. Unfortunately, this time I don't have a restore point previous April 15. So, I restored it on next day 16, but not resolved the issue. So I uninstall all vista windows update installed on April 15 but did not help either.

Fortunately it affects only an admin user (user account that run windows update) all users are very well.

Any suggestions to solve this problem, much appreciated.

  • Bill Gates can support for damage windows make updates for pc?

I recently posted a help topic. After downloading the updates on my Windows XP computer, it turns off then will restart on its own. I had some suggestions to solve the problem. If Gates thinks I'll stay here all day to solve a problem that is actually based in the updates they can think again.

I don't want answers from unskilled geeks who think they are engineering I want windows to take responsibility because it is defective updates. They asked me what updates was installing I ffs there are dozens, how can you expect I note the faulty update. More than 60 updates have been downloaded, you expect me to download each individually (in order to find the faulty update) absolutely not.

It is the responsibility of Windows to inform us of the faulty update.

This happened to my computer 12 months ago that an update has been recognized as defective. I went to the thread of responses and informed of the update. At this time a message showed by saying Windows are aware of this defective update and removed.  Is it not high time that Gates and his lackies has apologized for the mess this update creates and we inform that updates is causing our computers restart on its own?

Don't send me more stupid, ridiculous suggestions is to say uncheck the auto restart button, go to administrative tools - management logs etc. FFs do you think I have nothing better to do.

I have read several posts regarding windows restarts without permission, a poor person has lost hours and days of work of the Academy. I am now looking at buying an Apple computer like many many people have told me, and rightly so, there is no problem with viruses, worms or updates. For the geeks who sent me suggestions reply with your review of the kind just Apple updated issues?

If your system seems to be restarted by itself, it seems that you need so that you can see what is happening:

XP is configured to restart automatically on some system failures, you will need to disable this feature for the information of the blue screen of death (BSOD) will remain on the screen for you to see.  You must also configure XP to create a memory for each BSOD dump file, so you'll have a crash dump file to watch later if debugging more is necessary.

If your system crashes later, the information you need will always be on the screen and then you can use the information in the dump files memory to understand what the problem is and fix it.

Disable automatic restart in case of system error

XP restarts on system failure, so automatically configure your system so it does not, then you can see the error message.

Configure your system does not automatically restart on system failure and to create a crash dump file when it crash.

Right click my computer, properties, advanced, startup and recovery settings.

    In the system failure section:

Put a check mark in the box "write an event to the system log.
Put a check mark in the box "send an administrative alert.
    Uncheck 'automatically restart '.

In the Write debugging information section select:

    Partial dump (64 KB)

    Set the directory small dumpster:

    %SystemRoot%\Minidump

Click OK, OK to save the settings.

Restart your computer and wait for the next reboot/crash.

The next time your system crashes, provide more information on what you see.
Here's a BSOD example showing information you provide:
Send for the nose and the Red arrows (3 to 4 lines total).
Send all * line STOP message since there are clues in the 4 parameters.
If there is a name of the file listed in the STOP message, don't forget to include this information too.
Ignore the boring text unless it seems important to you.  We know what a BSOD looks like, we need to know what your BSOD looks like.

    Hello

To work on the issue, consult these links.

Temporary connection related errors may occur when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update

Note: make sure that you enable the antivirus software, other security and firewall after the test programs.

    Caution:
Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

(My Automatic Updates usually work, but this time not to go.) Updates are obtained through IE8 browser, but I prefer FireFox for daily use.)

    Thank you! Success!

I used method 2, because I had already tried method 1 earlier, but the "fix it" went wrong. After reading the information from method 2, I opted to use my FireFox instead of IE8 browser, because I suspected that the process Internet Explorer that are included with the update was a large part of the cause of my problem. Among the options, I used Microsoft Download center to locate the update I needed and then through its validation and finally made the download and reboot. Voila!

Can you please explain why the process more automated via IE did not work for me? Why I resorted to the labour process more that I used? Can I expect this of all the other "critical" updates that I get on my machine Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005? Maybe your answers would also be interesting to others.
