Windows 7 upgrade CD-ROM drive

I intend to one of my computers with Windows XP on it upgrade to Windows 7 or even to buy a new computer. I did a check of compatibility on the computer and everything is good for a 32-bit version. My only question is why it tells me there is a free update available for my CD-ROM drive to use it under Windows 7. I clicked on the link where I'd get the update and it took me here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us I have to follow these directions if I upgraded to Windows 7 to use the CD-ROM drive?

Thank you!

Hi MicrobitMan,

You use the DVD player to upgrade to Windows 7. The issue of cd-rom only means that your cd-rom drive is not compatible with windows 7 and you will need to download the software directly from the manufacturers Web site.

  • Dell Optiplex Windows 7 upgrade. Video driver by default VGA 640 x 480 PnP.

I tried to upgrade my Dell Optiplex 170 L for Windows 7. I am running Vista. The upgrade caused video back to a default VGA 640 x 480 PnP adapter drivers. I tried to find a driver on the Dell site and the Intel site. Nothing has worked. I can not find an updated driver and cannot use the computer with this video display. Thoughts?

    Hi Charliesdad2,

Welcome to the Microsoft answers site.

I suggest that you install the drivers in compatibility mode for Windows XP and verify if you are able to install without any problem.

To run the driver installation program in compatibility mode

Configure the driver installation program to run in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode. To do this, follow these steps:

1 locate the executable file for the driver installation program.

    2. right click on the file and then click Properties.

    3. in the PackageName properties dialog box, click the compatibility tab.

    4. Click to select the checkbox run this program in compatibility mode for , in the list, click on Windows XP (Service Pack 2) run this program in compatibility mode for and then click OK.

5 double-click on the executable file to start the Setup program.

If the problem persists, then I recommend that you contact the manufacturer of the computer or Dell for assistance or you may need to wait until Dell releases the latest drivers for Windows 7 for this particular brand of computer.

  • Cannot access a Windows 7 upgrade USB flash drive

Upgrade from Vista basic to Windows 7 Home Premium computer accepts flash drive but I can't access it. It is correctly stated in devices & Printers but not in my computer as a lettered drive. Read jasmith31 problem, but do not have a Security tab in properties. No error other than "installed device driver. Help please

    Hi lakeside71,

This problem mainly occurs when windows 7 does not assign a drive letter for your USB drive. It occurs especially with the new flash drives connected to the computer for the first time. Assigning a new drive as such letter should solve the problem.

Please follow the steps in the article posted by Shekhar on how to achieve this.

    This should be it.

  • Get Windows 7 upgrade after HARD drive failure

My HARD drive has failed.  My pc came with Vista with an upgrade to 7.  The recovery disc are Vista.  How can we get 7.  It is impossible to contact HP by email.  My product ID has rubbed off.  Otherwise, I would install just 7.  Any suggestioins?

    Hello

I think that HP has sent you a DVD with a key for this free upgrade a few years back. You must know where you keep now, otherwise you have to communicate with Misrosoft because it's a Microsoft product, and Microsoft's offer through agreements with other providers of material.

    Hello

Description of errors related to the 10 Code that generates the Device Manager in Windows on computers
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/943104/

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and
the correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
    the parameters.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

  • My CD-ROM/DVD-Rom drive & the Bison Webcam built into my laptop. Does not work after I upgraded from Vista home premium to Windows 7 Home premium.

My readers Optiarc DVD - RW AD-7530 ATA Device DVD/CD-ROM & the Bison Webcam built into my laptop. Does not work after I upgraded from Vista home premium to Windows 7 Home premium.
Although of course, the CD-ROM drive worked during the upgrade.
I noticed that when I turn firstly on the laptop, the last two lines of the front entry from Windows 7 are the following.
PXE - E6i:Media Test Failure, Check Cable
PXE - MOF: Exit PXE Rom
During the audit of each Properties in Device Manager devices", I learned that they both work correctly.  In the list in the printers and the @Devices the only Webcam shown is also a "USB 2.0 Camera"
    Can someone help me please?
    Best regards
    John

    Besides what abdelhak says:

The message of PXE boot that you receive when you start your computer has nothing to do with your CD/DVD-Rom drive. Your computer uses a PXE boot method to attempt to load Windows from a location on your network. Since you do not have this configuration, it is safe to ignore it. If it slows down the startup time of your system, contact your manufacturer and ask them for instructions on how to "disable PXE Network Boot of the BIOS.

  • The cd-rom drive access denied to Windows free audio converter (fre:ac) (7)

    Hello

Since the upgrade to Windows 7 (32 bit), I get this message when I run fre:ac.

"Access to CD-ROM drives was denied by Windows', followed by 'please contact your administrator." "etc.
I get this even when logged in as administrator!

The result is that I can't use fre:ac to rip CDs. The drive works fine in the case and works with Windows Media Player.

Fre:AC worked fine with XP, but not with Windows 7, it seems.

    Any help appreciated, thanks.

    Problem solved.

It seems that access has been denied not by Windows, but Comodo firewall...

I tried to uninstall fréac and put it back and noticed that Comodo has been put into the sandbox it - after I said no fréac began to work properly.

    Hi storm36,

You must have the Windows XP disk to repair Windows. As the CD/DVD drive is not getting detected, we recommend you try the following steps and check the result.

Step 1: Check if the device is detected in the BIOS (basic input/output device)
    a. start your computer and press on delete key continuously to see the BIOS.
    b. check if the CD/DVD device is detected.
    c. If this isn't the case, then unplug the unit and he reconnected inside the CPU/Tower.
    d. check the result.

Step 2: If the device is detected in the BIOS, try the following steps:
    a. start your computer and boot to the desktop.
    b. Click Start, click Run, type devmgmt.msc, and then click ok.
    c. select my computer, click the Action menu and click scan for hardware changes.
    d. check if the CD/DVD device is listed in the list.

Step 3: If the problem persists, restore the computer
see How to restore Windows XP to a previous state .
    b. Once you have restored the computer, check if the CD/DVD drive is visible.
