2 is installed Windows XP Service Pack 3 (press the Windows key Win+ R simultaneously.) Typewinver in the open: field, clickOK to know if there is)
3. What is the suite of security/antivirus installed; It includes a firewall; It's current subscription; whatever it has detected the last time that the system has been analyzed with it?

Please try another attempt to install updates now. After they fail to install copy and paste the last lines 50 or so WindowsUpdate.log in your response.

  • Windows 8 cannot be updated

My Windows Update service does not work and I cannot figure out how to run it.  I have run several scans for viruses & rootkits and kidnapped a couple whose names I can't remember (I think one was sirefef?).  Anyway, I scanned the snot out of this computer (tdsskiller, roguekiller, malwarebytes, Eset, emsisoft) and they are not finding anything now, but all that changes the malware made, I'm more able to check updates.  I can't start the service wuauserv and it contains the following description .

Also, I can't update 8.1 or use the windows store (even after reset several times).

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

For those who have a similar problem, I solved the problem by performing a 'Refresh', basically reinstalling system files while retaining my personal files (had to reinstall some software).  It took awhile, but once it was full, I could find and install updates but then does not open Windows Store.  I have fixed that by running the Tweaking.com all in a tool repair and limited to only running the "repair Windows 8 App Store (completely Reset App Store)" option.  It worked much better than the option wsreset.exe that I saw recommended before.

I tried several reboots the computer.

I'm downloading the SP2 for Vista, let's see if that fixes the problem.

  • Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade to Windows 7 Professional without updating any time for remote desktop

I have Windows 7 Home Premium and need remote desktop.  Can I install Windows 7 Professional (which I already have the disk) on top of Windows 7 HP and keep my current data?  Note that I don't update it any time as each post seems to use this term.

Windows Anytime Upgrade is your only option if you want to keep your personal files and settings. You can't directly in place upgrades using the disc.

Please note that you can not install Windows 7 Professional if the license is currently in use on another machine.

If the license for Windows 7 Professional, you have access to is a retail version update or complete, you can use the product key and the Express upgrade to Windows 7 Edition Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. First of all, check that the edition of Windows 7, you are upgrading is already enabled (if it isn't, you will encounter complications and that you might start all by performing a clean installation). Click Start, type Anytime Upgrade, click on the option enter a key, enter the key of Windows 7 Professional on demand, click Next, wait while checking the key, accept the license agreement, click on upgrade, wait while the software upgrades, (it may take 10 minutes or more depending on the if updates are required) your computer restarts automatically, after the reboot, Windows 7 will notify you updating the computer, the computer will restart once more automatically and will be completed the upgrade, a window will appear notifying the upgrade was successful and your computer is ready to use, click Close, you should be upgraded to Windows 7 Professional your files, programs and settings retained.

Please note that the Express upgrade does not support OEM, MSDN-Academic, Volume (the student faculty licenses) license. If you are in possession of all these brackets, you will need to save and do a custom clean install. If you want to do it, please backup your Windows 7 Home Premium or according to edition currently installed. Some licenses for Windows distributed to tertiary level students are not perpetual, which means that you cannot continue to use the software after a course or graduating.

If at any time the upgrade fails, Windows Anytime Upgrade Fail:

Shut down and restart your computer.

Make sure that the Windows updates have been installed.

Download the hotfix that contains a tool called CheckSUR, this tool will look in the package and the maintenance of records and fix corrupted data, the tool is listed under kb947821 it is located at the following link http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=947821

If Anytime Upgrade still does not work, turn off the user account control:

    1. go in user accounts in Control Panel

2 change user account control settings

    3. pull the slider to the level as low as possible

    4. restart the PC

    5. pass by the "Anytime Upgrade" as usual

    Try the following:

1 disable any security software before attempting to upgrade

    2. make sure that your computer is updated (devices and applications)

    3. disconnect all external devices before installing.

    4. check your hard disk for errors:

    Click Start

Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD

    Click on "Run as Administrator"

At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /f /r

When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them.

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    User account control permission

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    Hi Wiild,

    Follow these steps.

Press f8 before the Windows screen. Here, you will have a few options. You want to select the option that States disable reboot on system failure. This will allow an error code appears when the computer will restart. Let us know what is this error code.

    Hello

    Yes, you are right.

Note: serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Back-up-the-registry ) how to back up and restore the registry in Windows)

You can not uninstall IE8 on Windows 7, but you can disable access to it (for example, to disable IE8). Similarly, you cannot reinstall IE8 in Windows 7, but you can reactivate access to him (i.e., turn on IE8).
