Windows 8, I keep losing restore points at all to zero.

I can create a correct restore point, but after a few days when you check again the restore point disappeared! This also applies to the system restore points that are installed automatically during upgrades.

I use CCleaner, frequently and other malware & anti virus programs occasionally.

You did the right thing by turning SR off on your external drive.  See http://bertk.mvps.org/html/tips.html#11

There is no need to have the system restore check a partition which contains only data files.  Http://bertk.mvps.org/html/description.html (this is emphasis added)

    About the system restore

    • System Restore monitors changes to the system and saves the State of the system as a restore point. If a system problem occurs following a change of system, the user can return the system to a previous state by using a restore point data.
Applications and the system can create restore points when changes made to the system occur. System Restore also creates checkpoints every 24 hours of absolute time. In addition, users can create manual restore at all time points.
    • System Restore does not restore user data or documents, so it will not cause users to lose their files, email, browsing history or Favorites. System Restore is also provided to users in safe mode, making it easier for them to reclaim their computers before that happens the problems. Note: a system of Safe Mode or restore the command prompt a cancellation restore point will NOT created!

    The monitoring system

    • System Restore monitors and restores a set of file system and application, the States of these files before the change of the archiving system. System Restore also records a snapshot of the registry (Note: some current registry values will persist) and some dynamic system files. When the System Restore detects that the user is not actively using the computer, (idle time) he compresses the registry and copies of any file made.
    • System Restore requires a minimum of 200 MB of free disk space on the system drive during the installation. When the amount of falls of free space on the disc below 50 MB on ANY monitored drive, System Restore goes into sleep mode and continues to create restore points. All restore points are deleted at that time. System Restore reactivates and resumes create restore points from 200 MB of free disk space on the system drive.
    • Files that are monitored or excluded from the monitoring are specified in the file % windir%\system32\restore\Filelist.xml. For more information, see Monitoring of file Extensions.
  • Error recovery Windows (software/hardware change) - No restore points and no disc how to fix?

Still not too sure what happened or how it happened by the way, but when I turned on my PC today, I had the menu to choose start normally or repair starter system, when I try to start normally, the computer just as it happened to the Windows 7 loading screen. After that there a few times, I tried a system repair... He once checked for any problems and said then that he was trying to fix, but after waiting a few minutes, an error box appeared, saying "Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically" following with send/don't send. After closing the box, I have the option to go to advanced options, which includes the system restore and System Image recovery, but since I have no restore points or Image to recover with, there is not much that I seem to be able to do. I have no idea what to do with it, without the drive I can not install a new version and wouldn't really, because there is a lot of work on there that i prefer to keep, any alternative?

The Informatics iron law says that important or irreplaceable files must be stored at least two independent media. A lot of people ignore this rule. Some change their backup philosophy until they suffer a great success, others wait until after a disaster. A 2.5 drive "in a box external USB is an inexpensive but very effective backup media. In your case you can probably recover your data by starting on a command Console and copy your files on such a disk, using commands in the console.

On your inability to start Windows: you have exhausted almost all options, but there is a small chance that you could restore the windows to restore a previous version of your registry files. The process is complex and requires some careful typing. Ask a computer-savvy friend to help you if you lack experience in this field. Note that it may reset your password to a previous value.
    1. keep tapping F8 during the first phase of startup.
    2. select Repair from the menu.
3 log in as administrator if you are prompted.
    4. Select repair when prompted.
    5. Select the command line.
    6. identify the correct drive letter for your Windows installation. It could be one drive other than c, but it will not X:. You do this by typing commands
    DIR C:\Win*
    Dir D:\Win*
    dir E:\Win*
until you find the Windows folder.
    I'll call this "Q:" drive
    7 type these commands:
    CD /d Q:\windows\System32\config
    xcopy *. * Q:\RegBack\
    CD RegBack
    dir
    8. review the dates of the software, system, and SAM files. The files created before or after that is your problem?
    9. If they were made before the problem appeared, you can then type these commands:
    copy software / y...
    /y copy system...
    /y copy Sam...
(the two points are part of each order)
    10. restart normally. If things don't work then you can go back by copying files from the original register of Q:\Regback to Q:\Windows\System32\config.

    Thank you

    Hello

    Delete files using disk cleanup
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup#delete-files-using-disk-cleanup=Windows-7

Clean all the files on the computer:

System Restore and shadow copies. With this option, you can remove all but the most recent point on the restore disc.

Use system restore to return your system files to an earlier point in time, restore points. If your computer is running normally, you can save disk space by removing the previous restore points.

In some editions of Windows 7, restore points can include previous versions of files, called the shots and backup images created with Windows complete PC Backup. These files and images will also be deleted. For more information about system restore, refer to what is system restore?

    I hope this helps.

If you use Norton Security software on the computer then refer to the article below and check if it helps.

If you don't use security software Norton then temporary deactivation of security software installed on the computer and check if it helps.

Important: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

I am running a Pentium Q9300 with Windows Vista. I have change my mother and put card at level of CPU of AMD Phenom II X 4 965. I bought a new copy of Windows 7. I need to keep all programs, files, folders, and data I have on the hard drive.

How can I do all three and the link to my new Windows 7 for my new hardware?

    Hello

    You can not do

the old hard disk contains the drivers for the motherboard that is old and in all likelihood will not start when it is installed with the new motherboard

a clean install is normally required when changing motherboards

    __________________________________________________________

and I think that you should also read this on the granting of licences and motherboards:

If you have a license to OEM preinstalled, DELL, HP, etc any update at the Board level or changes must be done jointly with the computer manufacturer

an OEM license is linked to the original tho hardware it is installed on this computer life

When the computer dies the license dies with him, unless the manufacturer is willing to help you

If you have a retail license and reactivation problems:

    1. click on start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    2. press enter on your keyboard

    3. Select your country.

Windows has been registered online. Checked restore points after recording and found that the only listed restore point was created when the software has been registered. How can I find the previous restore points?

If you reformatted and reinstalled windows, you will lose any restore points. Theyre gone

  • Restore point creation crashes and now backup when you create a shadow copy Volume Windows 7 x 64. Help, please!

    Hi all

Backup and system restore worked fine 2 weeks ago, or maybe even more recently when I had to restore an earlier backup. I first noticed a problem yesterday, however, when you try to install an update from Windows to see that he is hung up on the creation of a Restore Point. I also tried to manually create a restoration via the System applet in the control panel of configuration, but that just hung 'Creation of a Restore Point. Finally, I tried to make a backup of what I finally did the 5/14, but which becomes 7% when creating a cliché to hang there.

    Things I've tried so far:

    1. Ensure VSS and the Windows backup is set to automatic and started in the Services.
    2. Turning Off SR on all drives and turn it back on.
    3. By clicking on the Remove button to all the former restore points for all readers
    4. Running SFC/scannow, who comes back as 'No violation of integrity.'
    5. A ran Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware with nothing found
    6. Have Norton 360 5.0 and I tried disabling in vain. Also no viruses are detected.
    7. Trying to do something in Mode without failure only to discover I can't create restore points there.
    8. Try to resize the shadowstorage and remove the old shadows via the CMD prompt high.
    9. Regsvr32 a bunch of dll found listed on similar sites - much successful in vain a bit - so maybe it's something...
    10. vssadmin list shadowstorage but nothing happens.
    11. No doubt other things but I can't think of them right now...

So it seems that I can do a repair installation of Windows 7 x 64 or attempt a restore one of my backups for a few weeks there, but the latter seems like it will fail either or I'll run into the same problem again later, the. I have Windows 7 on a 30 GB SSD, and the Windows directory itself takes 15.5 GB, because the installation program requires 17.5 GB for x 64, I wouldn't be able to do even if I removed everything else on the disc but the dir of Win.

So I figure I can find is a solution to the real problem, do a clean install, or copy my 30 GB partition on another drive, resize, do the repair install and backup. None of this sounds particularly easy options, so can someone please help me find something that might work?

    Thank you very much!
    Andrew

    Hi, Andrew l.,

I suggest you perform the clean boot to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After the boot minimum troubleshooting step, follow step 7 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

  • Why my restore points are deleted when I restart my computer?

The computer will not keep a restore point created manually, after I have shut down and restart. I increased the storage for her area in the protection of the system, also I do not see that automatic restore points are created by windows. What is going on?

    Hello

    ·         You have Dual boot for installation on your system?

If you have a Dual Boot with Windows XP / Windows 2000 then this problem can occur because the restore point does not record if you dual-boot Windows 7 and Windows XP/Windows 2000 installed on the same system.

If you do not Dual Boot on your system, but again, you are facing this problem then I suggest you to run the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner which is a Virus scan online provided by Microsoft.

To run the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner please refer to the link provided below.

  • No restore points were created on XP

I'm on Windows XP home sp3. I recently opened the system restore and discovered that there is no restoration of the available restore points, with the exception of the control point created when I opened the system restore utility. I used the system restore in the past, so I'm familiar with the way that windows automatically creates restore at startup points. As I restart my computer every day it should be every day at least one restore point. Restore my settings are set to maximum disk space, and "turn off System Restore" is not checked. I have 45 GB of free space (60%) on my drive hard. I am very conscientious about my hygiene of the computer. I use Microsoft Security Essentials for my antivirus and I run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware per week.  I run version 11 for PC Tools Registry Mechanic and Secunia Personal Software Inspector every week. I also run Disk Cleanup (I use ever more options to clean the system restore) and weekly Disk Defragmenter. Once a month I run CCleaner.

I read the article of knowledge of MS Q301224 database, but it does not apply to my case. I need help to create and keep my restore points. BTW, exactly the same problem exists on another computer in the family who's going XP pro sp3, and I maintain on the same schedule of hygiene.
