  First of all, has anyone successfully lowered their vista to xp in a machine SL400/SL500?

  I had just followed the "Windows XP clean installation/Downgrade Guide" here:

  The 'Intel Matrix Storage Manager for Windows XP"for SL400/SL500 (Note: this driver is different from T/R61) I downloaded the support of lenovo cannot be installed.   Clean XP install on my SL400 worked like a breeze. Actually a little felt uncomfortable having a complete set of official XP drivers available, because my previous installation was on a HP with almost no XP support beyond what users were mosaicked together in forums.

  I don't like the idea of changing the setting in the BIOS SATA back and back, then I slipstreamed driver ICH9M AHCI (with SP3) by using the MSFN guide. After that, XP installs without complaining, and it was just a matter of download and to install the drivers using the wire of notebookreview.com as a checklist on what to install and in what order.

  Some information on the Guide from notebookreview:

  • I installed the Intel Matrix Storage Manager normally; didn't need to follow the instructions in the guide. Probably does not need to install at all, but you get the utility so you can check NCQ etc. works.
  • ACPI power management is named ThinkPad Power Management driver in the list of drivers for SL.
  • If integrate you the SP3, you will have already sound driver UAA, so you can skip that.
  • Skip Atmel TPM (Trusted Platform Module). There is no driver for the SL series.

  If you have downloaded Windows 7 and it burned a DVD test burn again at the slowest speed possible. It is also possible the download may have errors, you can try to download it again.

  If you have several hard drives remove all except the one that you install Windows 7, and then replace it after Windows 7 is installed.

  Disconnect all external devices except the keyboard and mouse before installing.

  If using a video card and the computer has integrated video use and remove the video card.

  Unplug the computer from the internet, if you have wireless disable.

  RAM (memory) - reduce the amount of RAM. 1 GB if 32-bit installation, 2 GB for 64-bit, then replace RAM if the upgrade was successful. If you added new RAM make sure it is also compatible.

  Windows 7 installation disc does not

  Just a few troubleshooting steps to see if the drive is bad or if the DVD player is bad:

  If you have another DVD player available try to use this drive in your computer instead.

  If you have another computer available, try the disc of Windows 7 by using this computer and see if it can read the disc, or if the disc cannot be read and is bad.

  The issue could be due to the supplied product key does not match the press which is used to install Windows. The product key that is provided can be a file without assistance, in a. EI. Windows OEM 8 machines ship with the product key in the firmware, and if this product key does not match the press, then you will see the above error message.

  I suggest you to change the product key to the correct for the media you are trying to install.   Just for everyone to know that I finally managed to fix it. It appeared that my question was a known Windows 8 Preview version that Microsoft has released a fix for (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2727113). Apparently, there's a bug which can cause freezing symptoms I was see and by running the command

  bcdedit/set disabledynamictick no

  due to the gel to stop. It seems that the update has been released with RTM of Windows 8, so it does not seem to have worked at least the Touchsmart 600-1050. Many other people are reporting that it didn't work either, but as long as the above command will stop the gel I'm happy.

  My installation is going well now, work all, all happy. The only thing I needed to update was the touch screen 2.6.9.0 to 2.6.10.0 pilot who has really improved stability. That and the driver for the buttons on the side of the case.

  I'm not quite sure of this model laptop but most of the portable m press a combo of WLan/BT card. This means that a single module shares WiFi and BT connectivity.

  In this case its need to install an additional driver like BT filter driver package, but this depends on the module that is installed in the unit.

  However, I m wondering why try you to install/upgrade to update this BT stack if it worked correctly in the past

  Please try my suggestions and getting back to me. You can try downloading and running the print and Scan Doctor then choose "Difficulty of printing" and let it run its course. See what the end results you show here and then try again to print. Please also let me know what the results show.

  Try printing a few programs various (Notepad being one of them please) to see if the problem is with a single program, or all of them. Maybe a firewall can block the connection, try to leave this option off when you try to print from the few programs.
