    Hi royfos,

Do you have a code error message when you try to run the system restore?

Check if you can get into safe mode. If you manage to get into safe mode, then you can run the restore of the system from there. Otherwise, another option is to perform the Startup Repair.

    Method 1: Troubleshooting Safe Mode

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode

Safe mode is an option of troubleshooting for Windows that starts your computer with only basic services and features.

To get into safe mode, check out this help article: , start your computer in safe mode

    Step 2: Run system restore

For complete help, see this article:System Restore: frequently asked questions

Note: If you use system restore when the computer is in safe mode, you can not undo the restore operation. However, you can run System Restore again and choose a different restore point if any.

    Method 2: Startup Repair

Startup Repair is a Windows Vista recovery tool analysis of missing or damaged system files that may prevent Windows from starting correctly. Run it and see if that fixes the boot problem.

  • Windows Vista stuck with "update configuration".

Whenever I stop Windows Vista, System stucks with "Configuring updates" appearing on the screen.

The original post has been read.

The original post has no importance now.

What you do not understand, is that you now do a logoff and reboot for a fresh start of windows.

The problem should be gone because the download folder has been emptied.

and if the problem is still there, start the system in safe mode and then rinse the folder download again.

    Hello klmorgan-Office [365].

Your question about the Microsoft community received a response from Canadian technology.
Title: updates - stuck Win 7

    Response
Fix tetraethyle3, but I would advise Windows Update service be stopped and a reboot occur in addition to the definition of never.
Many of us have worked on a better set of instructions.  I'll include it here. Feedback is more than welcome...
    August 18, 2016
Windows Update has become very problematic for users of Windows 7.  During the past year, we have worked to find a solution that works for you.  We found one that works very well for most.  We know that for some it works well for August 2016 until 2 September Tuesday, known as Patch Tuesday.
We hope to update for September.
We emphasize that, to do this, you must follow exactly as described.
There are two main types of installations of Windows 7: 32-bit or 64-bit.  You know what is installed on your computer.  Click on the globe start, type in the box system. Choose system information in the list.  The abbreviation for technology for 32-bit is x 86 and 64-bit x 64

    1. Start Windows Update, and change the setting for never to find updates. We recommend that you only keep this setting.  Then Windows Update will be automatic.  From there, you are responsible for departure and the installation of updates.  We recommend to you a few days after the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
    2. The process begins by ensuring that there is nothing running that will prevent the update to work correctly.  Click on the globe to start and type services in the text box.  Click Services in the list that appears.  In the window that appears then (its alphabetical), find Windows Update.  Right click on it (left click if your mouse is set for left-handed people), and then choose stop.
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. You will now download and install manually updates one or two.  In most cases, only the first (KB3172605) is required.  If that produces a result that indicates the update is not suitable for your computer, you must first install the 2nd day of these (KB3020369), and then install the first (KB3172605).  Choose one that is for your machine - 32-bit (X 86) or 64-bit (X 64).

    KB3172605:
    32 bit

    1. After rebooting your computer, wait for about 10 minutes until that Windows Update performs its tasks.  Do not use the computer for other purposes during this waiting period.
    2. Start Windows Update.  It will take that a few minutes to come up with a list and download updates you select.  The process is quite normal because it was always from that moment.

If your computer has not been updated for a long time, it may take longer.

  • Windows 7 stuck on update "restart your computer to install important updates"

Yesterday by mistake I upgraded Windows 7 to 10.  After watching 10 hours, I returned to 7.  System check updates to day and put some apparently and followed with "Restart your computer to install important updates" - which cannot be updated while the system is using them.  All that seems fair enough.  However, the same reboot message was received after several reboots (including cold boots).  Cannot restore to last good config - probably due to their loss in the upgrade.  FixIt MS and solving problems of updating has not solved the problem.  Is there a switch somewhere that I can reset?  Help please.

Is this the same computer - not necessarily the same problem - as in one or more of these previous threads of yours?...

  • Error Windows Updates 'configuration of Windows updates fail, returning of the changes.

Updates to the title: original Windows.

That means 'configuration of the Windows updates fail, returning from changes '? My laptop has been updated but got stuck on 12%, and would not go further. It is restarted 3 times and only went up to 12%.

Was actually able to solve this problem through more research. It turns out that his receiver of wireless mouse and a SD card was stalled the installation program. I don't know why but I turned off the machine (long press the button), remove, checked all other ports, block tire and cord then put back the battery and card, turned on and it ran through the installer without problem.

Have you checked the settings > General > accessibility > greyscale > power off.

If this does not work ty settings > General > accessibility > zoom > on. Triple, tap the screen with three fingers. Tap choose filter. Click None. Triple, tap the screen to get rid of the menu zoom. If you have enabled greyscale in zoom you can disable it in zoom.

  • Windows switches mode 'sleep' and is now stuck at 'update 27 of 105.

Help, please!  Last night, I closed my laptop and he told me it was going to continue to install updates.  105 ofr them.  I have not thought very well no problem because I was going to bed anyway.  So I close the lid and go to bed when he was to be updated on 27.  When I opened this morning - a full 15 hours later, it was still updating the 27.  So I waited and nothing happened.  It has not frozen as the blue circle turns again.

I turned off and removed the battery and then lit it back to see he's trying to return to the update of the 27.  So I tried from the laptop in safe mode and now it says "update configuration" but in a lower resolution. fun.  Is it possible that I can start windows and circumvent the updates?

    Hi Rab_Random,

What Version\Edition of Windows you are running on your computer?

Step 1: Run system restore and startup repair, you can follow the steps mentioned in the article below

The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista and Windows 7
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/949358

    (See method 1 article)

Step 2: Delete the file pending.xml via the system recovery command prompt

(As in step 1) access system recovery options. You can also check out the link below

What are the System Recovery Options?
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/what-are-the-system-recovery-options-in-Windows-7

Go to the system recovery command prompt and run the following commands

    ICACLS c:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml/grant administrators: F

    del c:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml

Once the command is executed successfully, check if the problem is solved and let me know

Thank you, and in what concerns:

Since neither updates Jan - 10 have installed, I'm going to hand you Support MS in the hope that they can resolve the problem. See below.

That being said, is an interpretation of the 80070017 - cyclic redundancy check error "a device attached to the system does not work," which suggests that a hardware problem might be the cause of the error (although I must say that it is a very low possibility in this case).

    Good luck!

  • Update to Windows 7 stuck on 'Check updates'

I've updated 31 updates yesterday because it had not been done in awhile and now it is stuck on updates. I tried some responses on this site but had no luck.

Install the latest version of the Windows Update, in KB3172605 client included.

Set automatic updates to 'never check updates' and restart Windows before installing.

  • Update of Windows 8 stuck at 12%

Update Windows 8 stuck at 12%. Frustrating because I had to deal with the error 13% already. Any ideas? Thank you!

    Hi all

Update for Windows 8 (KB2771431) was released in December 2012, which the fixed an issue that was causing this update stops responding at 12% and caused also updated KB2756872 to stop responding to 13% of configuration updates.

If you hide one of these up-to-date or disabled the automatic updates to avoid this problem, you can now activate or restore your updates and search for new updates.  Details on how to restore updates can be found here.

    To search for new updates:

    1. Type Windows Update in the start screen, press or click settings, and then tap or click install optional updates.
    2. Press or click the link in the upper left corner that says check the updates.
