Windows backup help

I did a backup on a Windows 7 computer that was stolen.  I'm now trying to find the backup files using a Windows XP computer.  If I'm looking and you try to move several files I get an error message that says that the files are not.  Is there a better way to find the files to go through all the zipped folders 600 + and all subfolders?

I'm looking for files that are found in two different locations, but the built windows search does not appear to be any other.

Hello

1. do you have a backup on external hard disk drive?

I suggest you try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

Method 1:

HOW to: Search for hidden or system files in Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302347

For your reference: Search for content search not all Types of files for the specified string

Unfortunately, we can also restore backup Windows 7 on Windows XP.

Hope this information is useful.

    Hey @llebrez,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! This is a great place to find solutions and help our community!

I understand that you have some information about using the SSD in your HP Pavilion dm4 Beats Edition Entertainment Notebook. I'd be happy to help you with that.

The SSD in your laptop is used for a technology called Intel Smart Response. Intel Smart Response uses the SSD as a type of Cache smart to help load the items faster. The reason why that is not used currently is because the restoration of the system is not designed to use the SSD for intelligent caching and is not able to establish that on its own.

If you want to configure Intelligent caching on your laptop, you can follow this guide provided by overclock.net: how: implement the Intel Smart Response Technology (SSD caching)

I hope this helps. If you have more questions that I'm able to answer for you, please do not hesitate to ask.

  • Why Windows backup will not work on a network share?

I am running Vista Home Premium and have a drive WD MyBookWorld NAS on a MS LAN.  OneCare used to do all my backups, never had any problem, but OneCare is no more.  I also have a NAS Iomega 2 TB hard drive and the problem is exactly the same for that too - XP and 7 can save on it, Vista can not.

Windows backup works very well for readers SIN of my XP and 7 machines, but both the Vista, those who refuse.  I can drag and drop files from Vista to NAS, it's just the backup center who is the problem.  When I select the NAS drive for the backup on, he asks a user name and password.  My login to the Vista machine id does not work, and the administrator to the NAS password does not work.  The procedure fails with the 0x800706C6 message.  He refuses also backup on XP or 7 machines (with different messages).  He would be the backup on my other machine to Vista, but I do not have spare storage!
I have read articles countless and tried to turn on/off control of accounts and mapping changes the network drive, without success - the error message, but does not go far.

Help, please.  What should I do?

    Hello

Windows Home Premium backup can't backup on a network location.
So you will need to use an application of part 3. Professional, comprehensive and Enterprise edition
    backup to a network share.

You can share files and use the 3rd backup XP to do or use Acronis or other
    party utilities.

I prefer for the most of backup data and prefer to do it in a way that makes it easy to find
and to restore a file as well as many.

  • Windows backup was interrupted by a Windows Update.

Windows backup was interrupted by a Windows Update. The computer turns off and restarted, the backup was reported as being down.  It's on the DVD #42 (I am a photographer with a lot of GBs, it was the first time run the automatic weekly backup, so it's back up everything).

I started another backup and was instructed to label the backup as #1 drive. My two questions are: is there a way to tell how many records I need until I run a backup. and 2. Is this pick up where the backup failed had stopped or I'm going to need an another 42 DVD?

    Thanks for your help! Lisa

Vista does not tell you how many records will be necessary - this is not one of its features (but it is a good idea).  You just have to check what you have selected in the backup, total, divided by the size of each disk can hold and come with your best estimate.

In my opinion, he will leave from the beginning - no choice upward where it was stopped (I don't think it's possible with any version of Vista or any type of backup you choose).  Vista keeps not an account of what is and has not been supported that can be used to pick up where it left off (well, he has a record, but it is not accessible for this purpose) - this is especially true if you already have another backup (although I don't think it would have been possible to resume where you left in any case).  You may need more than another 42 records because he had not done and we don't know how it will be eventually required - we can say that you will need at LEAST an another 42.

If you use that many discs, may I suggest you get a USB external hard drive and use that instead for your backups - it will be much easier and you won't have to change disks.  They are not that expensive these days-make sure it's big enough to save what you want to back up and give you plenty of extra space because you'll use it quickly upward.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear, but the Vista backup program is not the best available and has a lot of limitations and problems (but it's free and it works essentially for to use us it).

BTW, next time, turn off the automatic updates AND disable your security software before making the next backup.  Turn them back on when the backup is complete.

    Good luck!

  • Windows backup: if I delete a file on my computer, it deletes the file on my backup too?

I recently discovered that the feature of automatic backup of windows on my computer and I'm thrilled about it (I think...). So far, my method of backup was just copy and paste all my files on an external hard drive. This method works very well, but it of a lot of time because I have to open each file and include the files or documents are new since my last backup and then drag them over my external hard drive. Very labor intensive.

Thus, windows backup will do that for me automatically? It will recognize the new files and save them to each backup of the future that I create? And what would you say if the already-saved files are renamed or reorganized on my computer? The backup file will recognize these changes? Or he will treat them as if they are new files (and then let me with duplicates on the backup file)?

Also, after I backed up my files on my external hard drive, I want to be able to remove some of these files on my computer (in order to free up space on my computer). But these files will then always be on my backup file?   In other words, let's say I finished my initial backup and then delete some files on my computer... on my next backup, windows will see that I have deleted some files from my computer and think I also want these deleted my backup files? Or he'll just leave these files on the backup?

    Hello

Yes, the Windows 7 backup allows you to create the backup schedule. If you have deleted files after the backup is created, the files must be available in the Windows 7 backup. In your new scheduled backup files are added incremental basis if they available even if you delete them from your computer. All you have to do is to restore them. You can restore individual files or folder tree.

Some useful tips on Windows backup:

    • Make sure that you create the full backup or an Image of the computer before trying to scheduled backup
    • Create a daily backup schedule, using the Panel\Backup command and restoration centre
    • Verify that your scheduled backups are created every now and then
    • Run a test backup first, just to become familiar with the Windows backup
    • Try to use an external HARD drive that is bootable for backup and create a system restore disk. Just in case you need to restore your Windows 7 full
