Windows Contacts folder format

How do you attribute the views of records to a specific group of files? I need to be able to ensure that the Contacts Windows folders display correctly, without changing the format of one of my other records.

How can I format files of Windows Contacts regardless of other folders in Windows Explorer (File Manager)?  Is this a major bug in Vista or what?  Contacts folders need a format such as: Contact name, phone number, email.  Most other folders of files need a format such as: name of the file, Type, size, Date of revision.  I like to be able to organize my contacts in a hierarchical structure - no other programs contacts in that I looked at seem to be able to do it, so it seems that I am stuck with Windows, if I can make it work.

I'm sorry, but the other answers you have been assigned are not correct. Follow these steps:

Open Contacts from his file Explorer or within Windows Mail. Right-click anywhere in the blank white space to the right. Select "Customize this folder", then click on the small triangle in the drop-down list, select Contacts, and then click OK.

This will change the type of Contacts folder only.

  • Where is the "Windows Contacts" folder?

Whenever I try to access the e-mail addessbook I transferred from my old PC it says: «You are about to import adessbook Windows...» "- I click on 'Import' & he says its in the folder"Windows contacts ". I went online to help find - its supposed to be in all programs, but it is not. When I search I get no results HELP!

    Thank you

    Craig.

If you are looking for something you can read, you need to just set up Windows Live Mail and click on Contacts.  I don't know why you want to look at the raw data because it will look like empty gibberish of sense to you.  However if for some unknown reason, you really need to see where it is, you can find C:\Users\xxxxx\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Contacts.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

  • How to remove and reset the Contacts folder / files in Vista Windows Mail

How can I delete the Contacts in Vista - and actually reset the folder so that windows treats the files ".contact" as - good contact and no text.

Because what was going on, I decided to try to start from scratch - I just copied all the files in the folder of contacts to a archive and deleted all the files in the contacts folder.

From Windows Mail - I am capable of was able to use the tool 'Add to contacts' and the Contact form (properties) dialog happens - but if I open the Contacts folder directly (Windows or Windows Mail 'button'), I get a window of the typical Explorer with a newlt created contact list (for example there are 6 in there now all created from Windows Mail) - if I try to open an existing contact - it opens in the Notepad - text - garbage.  (Same problem I had)

I've been setting up with a Contacts folder corrupted since I bought my desktop with Vista in 2008 - I think I looked into the question of import then and there is no function of CSV to import the contacts (that I could find) - and / or the inport corrupted the file - so when I open a file of contacts I get the text of the file - it opens in Notepad - and not a Contact form.

With more than 600 contacts in there, I didn't have to manually retype all data, but it's time to bite the bullet.

    Hello PaulJMoore,

    ·         Do you have just copied the contacts in archive and did not export them?

    ·         What is the extension of the contact files you copied?

You should try to reset the contacts folder.

    1. in Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder C:\Users\(user name) \Contacts.

    2. right click on an empty space in the main pane of the middle of the window and click Customize this folder.

    3. under the type of folder do you want, click the arrow next to the model list drop-down list.

    4. click on Contacts to select.

NOTE: Check apply also this template to all subfolders if you want to change all subfolders in the Contacts folder to the Contacts model as well.

    5. click on OK.

The contacts created with Windows Vista are in the format of .vlc. When you try to open them to the archived location where you saved, he would not be able to access Windows Mail to open the contacts.

First of all try to copy all the contacts in the Contacts folder on the \Contacts C:\Users\(user name folder location).

If this does not work, try to import all the contacts that you have saved to the location that is archived using the import option from the Windows Messaging.

You can read this article which will give you information on how to import contacts:

  • Why I can not create a new folder in Windows Contacts and rename it?

I keep my contacts in Windows Contacts, divided into folders named category.  In the past, I was able to press the button "New folder" to create a new folder, and then rename the folder.  Now, I can create a new folder, but Windows doesn't allow me the no - name.  As soon as I type the name of the new folder and press ENTER, it goes back on behalf of the "new folder". Can someone explain what happened?

If possible, although I honestly don't see how the shortcut should influence.  Try this, just delete your shortcut, then take the icon on the left side of the address bar of the 'work' contacts folder and drag your desktop and drop it.  This example is part of a control panel, but it works the same:

The "private" with a picture of just an envelope at the beginning of the list, I can remove it. Those with a picture of an envelope in a door - mainly business contacts - I can't delete - there is no installation 'DELETE '.

  • Software "Windows Contacts" does not exist in my Vista

I finally decided to try Windows Contacts (formerly address book) in Vista. But the software does not exist among my many Windows program files. It is possible that I deleted the software somehow. I tried to find a way to download just this Microsoft software, but don't find any option to do. Any ideas? Thank you 1 million.

    Hi debussymuir,

Windows contact is not software, so there is no option to download. Windows contact is a contact manager that is implemented in a special folder in Windows Vista. It's in the Start Menu of Windows Vista.

Windows in Windows XP address book has been replaced by the Windows touch in Windows Vista. Windows contacts has all the features of the old Windows address book, as well as some new features, such as the ability to add pictures to your contacts.

    To access the Windows Contacts:

Open Windows Contacts by clicking Start , allprograms, and then clicking Windows Contacts.
