Hi hker04,
Since you have corrupted files I suggest that you perform a repair installation.
Repair facility:
You can reinstall your copy of Vista while keeping your files, settings and programs by performing a repair install or an upgrade on the spot with the following steps: (Note: this still does not resolve all problems, especially if the corruption was caused by a 3rd party program or service, you may need to do a clean install) (if this is not successful.)
<><><><><><><><><><><><>
Please make sure that you back up all the important data before you continue. Please visit: methods for your backup files.
Always make sure that you have the means to reinstall your programs, or by an installation disc or access to the installation files.

2. on the Install Windows page, click install now.
3. on the get updates for installation page, we recommend getting the latest updates to help ensure a successful installation and to help protect your computer against security threats. You will need an Internet connection to get the installation updates.
4. on the Type your product key for activation , we strongly recommend that you type your 25-character product key in order to avoid problems during activation.
5. on the page Please read the terms of the license , if you accept the license terms, click I accept the terms of the license.
6. to the which type of installation you want? page, click upgrade to begin the upgrade. You can see a compatibility report.
7 follow the instructions.
Note: If your installation disc doesn't include SP1, and you are updated, then you must uninstall it before proceeding with an update install. Start-> Control Panel-> programs-> see installed updates, then select Service Pack for Microsoft Windows and click on Uninstall.
Note: Tit the following settings is reset by default:
Its computer system
Device drivers
Visual effects
Windows Mail
Windows services
If you notice missing files after the upgrade, look in the following folders:
C:\Windows.old
C:\$INPLACE.~TR
C:\$WINDOWS.~Q
These files can be eliminated with disk cleanup as "records destroyed by upgrade to Windows".

80070426 - Windows could not search for updates
My computer is configured for automatic updates but has not updated since 3/22. All this done today. Help, please
Please read: what information to post in forum Windows Update then come back and provide the information requested forthis post. DO NOT start another. Thank you!
In the meantime, you suggest to Configure the system to boot. Once you have done this, see if the system can now search for and detect updates.
If not, while still in the State to clean up the boot , download andSave the Fixit on this page: How to reset Windows Update componentsOnce the download is complete, close the browser and all the open programs. Now start MicrosoftFixit 50202.msi and choose thedefault mode. Restart when it's done, and see if the system can check for detect and download updates now. If not, then rerun the Fixit with the system connected to the internet and chooseaggressive mode. Reboot when it's over and try checking updates once more.
NOTE: If a 3rd party firewall is used, then make sure that the Windows native firewall is on now. Open Windows Firewall in Control Panel to check.

Windows could not install several updates
My daughter portable computer has been impossible to install several updates in October. More precisely, KB3000988, KB2984005, KB2972101, & KB2987107 install, however, they are the ones who install - I have been able to get the other ones installed.
I ran windows update so that the PC was in clean boot mode (all unextinguished Microsoft services/applications).
I also disabled Windows Defender (the only Antivirus which I'm running).
I also ran the troubleshooting of Windows Update and there a number of things to be fixed. I did this first and the updates still do not work.

Windows could not install the updates in January 2016, error 0x80071a2d
updates this week seem to originally be a continuous loop of failed to configure updates - so far have had 4 systems with the same question.
-historic events shows all updates fail to install with error 0x80071a2d - anyone else seeing this or do I have an idea about the update at the origin of the problem
link to a disc with all the files, but have never heard any more
I solved this by selecting manually an update at the same time installation/reboot - proceed through updates available every one at a time

Windows could not search for new updates. Code 80072EE2
First, some background...
I am running Windows Server 2008 / Hyper-V
I have a Vista OS guest I have loaded from a base image (vhd)
I also have a Server 2008 guest OS also loaded from a base image
These images have not been created on this machine.
I had guest OS installed since the XP CD but since she departed.
The machine on which it is all performed has a 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 X 6800 processor.
8 GB DDR2 RAM
I've had this problem for several weeks now. At the beginning I could not the host OS to run updates, it would fail with an error 80072EFE code. This is for several weeks. Finally, while researching this problem I came across an entry mentioning only the BITS required to run so double I checked it. Of course, it was off. I started the service and that fixed the problem with the host operating system and apparently the problems she was having with other sites.
So I think big is issues with the Vista and the comments of 2008 operating system. No luck, these systems still will not run updates. The 2008 operating system returns an error "Windows could not search for updates" with a code error 80072EE2
I tried several solutions to this problem, and at least twice have reloaded the base images because I mucked in the system so much that I lost track of all the changes I had made to the OS.
I ran these commands...
regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\dllcache\wucltui.dll
regsvr32 /s wups2.dll
regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\wups.dll
regsvr32 /s wuweb.dllI also tried the procedure found here...
http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-SG/vistawu/thread/6511a332-7de3-4F10-B823-49b6dae86b9c
Which loads a new "TrustedInstaller.exe" in the folder "C:\windows\Servicing\".
And on the Vista operating system I also tried this...
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058
By clicking on the "Fix It" link.
It still does not.
Oddly if that I'm typing this I had rebooted the OS Vista and restart it it notafied me that he was installing updates 1 of 3. However when it finished I tried to check the updates and it gives me the same error "Windows can not find updates" with a code error 80072EE2.
Someone at - he found an answer to this question. I ask because I'm looking for what I see many people with the same issue.
