Windows Easy Transfer cannot log on to your domain account

I'm moving to Win 7 RC 1 to Win 7 Pro.  Last night, I used WET to move my files, etc to an external USB hard drive.  To date, I did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro and I tried to transfer it to my computer, but refuses to Win 7 Pro with the error code: 'Windows Easy Transfer can't connect to your domain account'?  What is happening with this?  I've never belonged to a field when using RC 1.  How can I get around that?  If I can't get my stuff, I'm screwed.

Looks I groused too early and celebrated too soon.  When I finally got the command line tool to work, it has been indeed zipping through archive WET.  I could not see at first was that it generated an error in creating file under each extraction, the formidable «double C:\»  " in the path of restoration that has been much discussed elsewhere on this forum.  In desperation, I went back to the wizard to see if could make it work.  I finally made using the wizard to create two new user accounts to receive the archived files!  To say the least, the final solution was contrary to intuition.  On my system from RC1, I haven't had a single account user.  During the clean install of the RTM, I used the same handle and password as before under RC1.  It seemed logical to me that it would be WET looking for; silly me!  In any case, it worked and I'm going through the long chore to install my programs.  I guess "All's well that ends well", but I don't know why it worked.  From a security point of view, it seems that it shouldn't have.  Oh, well...  I guess that MS did not get enough to test our skills of problem solving :-(  I hope my experience and solution is useful to someone.

  • Windows Easy Transfer does not

I got a new computer WIndows 8. I want to transfer my data from my Windows 7 computer. Easy transfer works on windows 7 but not 8. When I pull up on the 8 I have the question Yes or no. Yes constituting the data is already on a drive hard and being that I have not used before. If I click No., it closes. It brings me to another menu as it does on windows 7. I want to transfer data via wifi.

Transfer files and settings with Windows Easy Transfer in Windows 8

Windows easy transfer supports several methods to transfer your files and settings.
You can use Windows easy transfer to transfer information to a computer running Windows 8 computers with one of the following operating systems:
    • Windows 8
    • Windows 7
    • Windows Vista
    • Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Service Pack 3 (SP3)
NOTE: Windows Easy Transfer cannot transfer files between a 64-bit version of Windows and a 32-bit version of Windows. Instead, the files must be transferred manually using external storage devices. To find the version of Windows on your computer, see the is the Version on my computer 32-bit or 64-bit Windows
    ? support document.
Step 1: Determine the best method of transfer

When you transfer files between Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 computers, choose a method that works on both computers. Windows easy transfer supports the following transfer methods:
    • External hard drive or USB flash drive: to use a USB flash drive, you need a USB port on each computer. If you use an external hard drive, it must be compatible with both computers.
    • Easy transfer cable: you need a special USB cable designed to work with Windows 8 and Windows Easy Transfer and a USB port on each computer. If you don't have an easy transfer cable, you can order one online or get one at an electronics store. The easy transfer cable is supported on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers.
NOTE standard USB cable: A cannot be used to transfer files and settings between computers.

    • Network: both computers must be connected to the same cable or wireless network and both computers must be able to share files and folders.

To decide which method to use, consider the amount of information you will sit. If you are transferring everything from all users on the computer, or all of your user account files, an easy transfer cable, external hard drive or a network works well. If you transfer only a few files or folders, a USB works well.

    • Windows easy transfer. I can't use transfer to move files to the new computer

I used windows easy transfer to back up my files to an external hard drive before doing a clean install of windows 7, XP.

I am unable to find any "windows easy transfer" files on the hard drive for transfer to the new computer.

ALL the files from my old computer are there and I am able to access it from the external hard drive.

Please tell me there is an easy way to transfer files and I don't have to do it manually.

What is the error message when you try to restore files in Windows 7?

Also, did you really use the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard to back up your files or did you use the built in the files and Settings Transfer wizard in Windows XP? If you used the files and Settings Transfer Wizard, that won't work no.

You must install Windows Easy Transfer on Windows XP, save the files as one. MIG file on your external drive, restore it on the Windows 7 computer. See for instructions:

Original title: there was an error of analysis of the data on your system

I get this error when trying to use Windows Easy Transfer to prepare to move from an XP PC to a Windows 7 PC. It passes through the part of the selection on where I later import files then says he is scanning the disc and fails with the above error.

In the search for this error, I found information of 2007 could be be a nero problem AVI.  I don't have Nero installed and I can't find the log files in the directory MIGWIZ.

It is a small (50 GB) HD who do not have much space available on it (I'm not in front of it now).  Is there a minimum amount of free space needed to run this executable? That is why it is a failure?

Could there be other issues behind this failure?

    • Cannot install files of Vista in Windows 7 with Windows Easy Transfer

I got files on the old computer (Windows Vista 32 bit). They are now stored on my external hard drive. I have a new computer with Windows 7. Using Windows Easy Transfer, I transferred the original files on the external hard drive before stopping the old computer. Yes, you will need to use the Win7 transfer utility to export files in Vista.

    • Can I remove the file 'SaveData.mig' after I run Windows Easy Transfer?

Can I remove the file 'SaveData.mig' after I run Windows Easy Transfer?

I used easy transfer to move files from an old computer to my new about 12 months ago. The SaveData.mig file takes 22 GB of space on the new computer. I would like to remove it but I don't know if it will mess up all my files that have been transferred to my new computer. Anyone know if I can delete this file in order to free up space? Thank you

I agree with Mohdrafi - you can remove safely; However, you should have a more recent backup of your current files just to be on the right side (image FULL weekly backup and an incremental backup every day for an external HARD drive - I've seen too many people get burned when their drive hard breaks down or something worse and then they lose all their precious documents (, photos, audio and other files).  There ARE recovery procedures, but they don't always work, and they don't always get everything (especially if you expect to solve the problem or continue to use the PC in the meantime)- and depending on your version of Vista.  Delete this file will NOT affect the files and settings that you restored using the process.  Could have deleted it hours after that the process has been done (once you have a good backup) and it would have been very well then.  If you have a good backup, I can see no reason whatsoever to keep the file.

If the normal delete function in Vista doesn't work, try using one of the following free products to remove the file.  Unlocker to: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml or file Assassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php (with or without forcing the deletion: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-fileassassin/). These programs often work when normal functions remove Vista not work correctly.

Congratulations to the use of Easy Transfer - this is a pretty cool tool isn't it?  Not sure how many threads that we have here people with issues or recoving given him--I saw a lot.  It seems easy on the surface, but when it doesn't work it can become quite complex and aggravating (and I know people who have unfortunately never were able to retrieve their data and settings no matter what we tried).

      I hope this helps.

      Hi PTTimothy
