Windows Firefox will not close.

Hello
I am running windows 8.1 and Firefox 38.0.1. whenever I click on the Red 'x' to close Firefox, Firefox will not close. If I want to close all tabs, Firefox does not close the last tab. If I try to merge windows (by dragging the tab of a window in a different window) Firefox will create a blank tab on the window where I dragged the dragged tab. So far, the only way to close the Fire Fox is click on the close button or to stop by the Task Manager. When I re - open Firefox Windows and previous tabs are also there, and I'm still not able to close them. I restarted my PC and reinstalled Firefox (uninstalled and re-download). However, after downloading Firefox... the same windows will be opened, with the same tabs! It's horrible!

Hello cach_dies,

Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables hardware acceleration, restores some settings and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button

    click Help

then select restart with disabled modules.

If Firefox does not work, you can start Firefox in Mode safe as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
  • On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."

If the problem is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps described in the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

When find you what is causing your problems, please let us know. This might help others with the same problem.

  • Firefox will not close on the Mac laptop

I had a problem and started a mysterious cleaning profile process if I remember (hours). He put a former folder Firefox data on screen then brassèrent away for so long that I interrupted him, then download a fresh copy of FF, tried to run it, but get the message "Profile missing etc.

No menu, and I'm stuck. When I try to close/delete FF in the trash, he refuses because it is open.
No profile is displayed when I search the library including hidden items.
None of the solutions as stick a Kill command in the Terminal seen elsewhere works.

    Thanks Jaya.

I gave up last night, but had one last go before before dispatch in Mac and Firefox the depths of hell.

'Force Quit' didn't work, so I tried to copy what looked like a profile in "Old Firefox data" folder on the desktop in the folder/Library/Application Support / Firefox / Profiles.

There was another profile folder there that I renamed it "Old etc.", then I started Firefox... and it worked!

So I do not know if your suggestions later would have worked, but thanks a lot to them.

Hey guys! My brothers and sisters have decided to play a trick on me and changed my computer to the front of a week time (panic ensued). • Firefox will not hold, but shows in the Task Manager, after updating graphics drivers from AMD 13.1.

    Hello

After update for drivers AMD 13.1 on my 5770, Firefox will not launch; It doesn't, however, appears in the Task Manager. I want to emphasize that it will boot into Windows safe mode; When I opened it in safe mode, I used this time to deactivate all plugins, modules, extensions and created a new profile. This did not help. I also tried launching Firefox in its safe mode and had no luck with that either.

I encountered this problem once before, when trying to upgrade to an earlier version. I think I was moving from 12.1 to 12.4, but I'm not 100% sure of that. In the end, my solution was then to retrograde back to my previous driver. The steps mentioned in the previous paragraph has not helped at that time, not do a complete reinstall.

experience of 15 years, and that computer repair baffled me.

  • Firefox will not display on the screen even though with Process Explorer, I see active Firefox.exe but no CPU usage

I use Firefox as default browser v10.0.2 on Dell XPS8300 Intel Core i5 and Windows 7 Ultimate and Compaq Presario CQ57 IO IO Intel Core i3 and Windows 7 Home. More frequently on the (approximately 90% of attempts) that Dell (50% of attempts) Firefox will not display on the screen when I click the icon. Cannot display other programs when it happens. I expressly say display because I believe that Firefox has started. To work around the problem, I installed Process Explorer on both machines and launch this program first, then click on the Firefox icon. When the problem occurs I see process Firefox.exe in the list of processes; some CPU consumed but, then, no CPU activity. If I click on the Firefox icon, yet another process opens in the list of processes, but with the same answer - some consumed CPU and then no CPU activity. If I have 2 processes running and kill the process from the 1st, the 2nd poster and then everything is normal. If I do not open it treat a 2nd, but kill the 1st process then click the Firefox Firefox is displayed and all then is normal. This problem has occurred since the original on the two new machines installation. I have updated the video drivers on both computers.

OK, let's see if we can solve this problem and make it work for you!

First of all, if you start Firefox in safe mode (restart your computer first, then when you open Firefox, hold down the SHIFT key) it starts more reliable? This is usually caused by a defective module. If this does not help, then restart Firefox, go to the Firefox, then add-ons button and disable your extensions one by one until you find the troublemaker.

Also, try to update to Firefox 11, it has several bug fixes that might make life easier here.

Just as a few troubleshooting steps base to ensure that we have all the bases covered,
Run all Windows updates, install all required service packs, etc.

Update all of your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/.

Download and install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/. This check allows that there is no virus on your computer, causing problems. You can uninstall this program after having cleaned the infections.
