Windows live mail file location, backup,

I need to reinstall windows 7 and I need be sure that I get my emails from windows live mail and saved contacts client.   I can't find the location of the file to copy to an external source.

Where can I find the e-mail files and contacts?

What is the best way to save and import when I set up the reinstallation?

If you want to back up all aspects of Windows Live Mail, including settings of the account, rules, etc. use this third-party utility:

It does not transfer the contacts, but you can easily re - sync those if you used the option to connect to Windows Live Mail.

When you clean install, you lose everything.  You can check if backup was performed automatically in the c:\windows.old\ folder, but it is unlikely with a clean install.

But, if you have used the program with a mail server online (such as Hotmail, MSN, Outlook.com or Gmail) then your emails and folders will always be online on the website of electronic mail as a backup.

  • Please tell me how to backup Windows Live Mail on a Windows XP-based computer

I don't want the program that does it for you, I mean go into the directory and the backup of the .eml.  What I call the way '' look under the hood. '' Thanks in advance.

If you just want to save the .eml files manually, you might as well just save the messages as .eml files.

Create a Windows folder on your desktop or elsewhere and then in WLMail, open the folder that contains the messages you want to save. Highlight a message, and then Ctrl + A will highlight all (or Ctrl-button down while you select only messages you want), now, drag and drop them into the folder on your desktop. (They there will be records WLMail.)

Now you can copy this folder to a CD or flash, and they can be moved if necessary WLMail.

    Hello

I have a question where several emails appear in my list to the Inbox, but when trying to open them, the "this is a problem when you attempt to open this message" error.  After investigation, I noticed that the messages in question also appear in my file to delete items.  There, I can open them, so it turns out that the header of the message remains in the Inbox without the body.

After reading many forum, I ran the command "esentutl.exe d «%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Mail.MSMessageStore»»  Subsequently, I now can't open Windows Live Mail, seeing the error "Windows Live Mail could not be started.  The application could not open the Windows Live Mail message store. • How to import a dbx file unique to Windows Live Mail?

I imported my files of dbx to Outlook Express 6 for WLM (Windows 7) last month, but a valuable record has been lost due to corruption. Now, I discovered a forgotten dbx backup that I'm desperate to add to WLM7, but it does not recognize the dbx file. All the advice I have read, says that you can import all OE6 files and folders at once, and that it does not recognize simple records. There is no work around for this? I'm desperate to import this file, but do not want to lose all my other imported files making.

    Help, please!

The reason why you can not get imported WLMail dbx files is because Folders.dbx must be included in the backup. Manually recover dbx files in OE, you can export them.

2: transfer of data from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail

    For Messages:

In Outlook Express, compact you files first.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

    Compress your OE folders:

Copy the * ENTIRE * OE message store folder to a flash drive. (Folders.dbx should be included). Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail.

V-2011/2012: Menu button. Import Messages. Microsoft Outlook Express 6, and the point where it was saved.

In Windows XP the OE User (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

Note: If any DBX file is over 300 MB, return to OE and move some messages from the folder related to a new user created folder and compact down the size of the file.

I did it in Outlook Express with the deleted mail.
Unfortunately, in Windows Live Mail it deleted all the mail.

That's why WLMail requires you to reject a warning message before deleting an account:

There is a folder named backup under
    C:\Documents and Settings\

What is in the present, and I can use it to restore the emails that I deleted when I deleted an account.

The backup folder contains a copy of the message database, which is only an indication of your messages. It does not contain the messages themselves.

You may be able to recover a portion of your messages (.eml files) by using a utility like Recuvaundelete. The sooner you act, the most successful, it is likely to be.

Windows Live Mail has its own support at the Windows Live Solution Centerforums. Please address any other question you may have on one of the forums on the right side of this page. You are probably asked to give your version of WLMail and Windows so that the answer may be more accurate.
