Check the file formats that you had inserted in movie maker. You might have used files that are not supported by the Director.
Photo: jpg, png, bmp
For video: WMV, AVI
Music: mp3, wav, wma

Note: If you use google for formats of files supported by Windows Movie Maker, you will find that the list is much longer than what I've listed. This is because I find those on my list are the most reliable and you don't have to worry about not having the right codec for files.

    Just some thoughts...

This happens usually when the source files are
not totally compatible and also may be linked
    transitions.

In Movie Maker, you could try to go into tools.
Options / Compatibility tab and disable all
    the filters.

Also you can try to convert your source files
    to different formats.

Several formats are apparently compatible with
Movie Maker, but the most reliable choices are:

    Photos - bmp
Video - wmv or dv - avi
    Music - wma, wav, wmv

And you can try to remove the transitions.

  • Project Windows Movie Maker won't play in Windows Media Player

I created a 'film' in Windows Movie Maker - not a bad little program.  I used to be a professional video tape, and you can do things with Movie Maker and that you can't do with the edition of tape cassette - even in a television station in a big city.

The film plays well in Movie Maker, but he won't play in Windows Media Player (Version 11).  I have Vista Home Version on my computer.

I want to be able to send e-mail to friends and family who do not have Windows Movie Maker - but have Windows Media Player (not sure which versions have all my friends).  Until now, whenever I try to play the movie in Media Player, I get the following message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file.

When I click on the "get help from web" button, it takes me to this page:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/Webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0.6002.18111&ID=C00D1199&ContextId=83&OriginalID=80040265

This page does not give me the solution to the problem and gives me no option to download/install the codec I need.  I don't know what a codec is and don't really care to know.    I just need to know:

    Should which codec I?

    Where can I download it?

What are the two products of Microsoft.  Can they be compatible?  One of the options presented during "editing" the file is to be sent by e-mail.  Not much good if the e-mail recipient is unable to play.

I can also play the movie using Real Player or I-Tunes - but it of okay for me if they work in these players or not, since my friends and family would be no players on their computers.

Maybe you just save the project that creates a .mswmm file.
This file is no longer usable in Movie Maker for re - editing purposes.

Republish the project in the format of video .wmv and you

  • Windows Movie Maker won't play .mpg - files.

When I import a mpg file in Windows Movie Maker, I can hear the audio but can't see the video. It is particularly strange, because my mpg files work well in Windows Media Player.  What can I do? I have installed hundreds of codecs and it still does not work.

    Audio--> OK
    Video--> NO

Windows Media Player--> video + audio
Windows Movie Maker--> audio (NO video)?

    Hi tom,

Thanks for using the Community Forums of Microsoft for Vista.

Normally, something like that, the problem is resolved by downloading and reinstalling the latest MS codec packs.

In this case, however, I think the problem is conflicting codec installations.

I think you should start by restoring the system running and to cancel most of the codec installations. Go back to the extent that is reasonable and see if that helps.

If not, then download the latest codec for your multimedia player by Microsoft and see if that does the trick.

I think that will do, let us know whether.

  • Windows Movie Maker - try to change your published movie, import songs from computer used in the previous film.

to import the music that is on the computer used in an old file to windows movie maker, all other music on computer can be imported except the songs used before, uncertain, why is this? I also wanted to see if I can edit the published video so that I can make a template by making a second copy of it to edit photos?

You should be able to re - upload the music you previously
used in Movie Maker from the original location.

If you still see the music in the film Collection pane
Manufacturer and can not use the view is a good chance that it
has been moved or deleted from the original location.

If there is a X... Red try, right click and see if you
can navigate to the current location of the music file
    and restore the path.

Movie Maker does not archive copies of your source files...
It simply records the path to the original location.

If the published video is a. The video file WMV... it's not
more editable in Movie Maker. But you can import
and use it in the same way as you would for any other video file.

If you still have the. MSWMM Movie Maker project file...
It would be re-editable if all source files are always
    available.

If you don't have the. The WMV video file, and you want to
change photos... you will need to create a new project.

  • Windows Movie Maker-legends are incomplete when published in the final movie

My captions are incomplete when published in the final movie... :(

    Hello everyone.

I use Windows Movie Maker to create a photo slideshow set to music. In addition, each photo has a caption.

    Here's my problem:

Some photo captions are messy when I publish the movie. For example, "TCS 1999" shows as "SDC 199" in the published version, even if "SDC 2000" remains the same in the published version. " Not every picture is affected, but it is irritating.

I would appreciate anyone's insight into this matter.

  • Windows movie maker won't save or burn to a cd

I worked for 3 days, set up a movie with pictures and sound. When I go to save on the computer or save it on a cd, he gives a status bar that never changes to 0% and below it is a counter that indicates the remaining minutes. This counter goes well to the top instead of the bottom. the film that I put in place was about 25 minutes and I left the pc 9 hours and the minute was contrary to 3 600 000 minutes go. It's very confusing because I then dropped. I ended up using a program called dazzle to record video, but is very unstable and guard lock up when setting up a video image. hope someone has an answer for me. I am running win XP

There is a small chance that you may have better results if you
record in DV - AVI format. I will paste the instructions below.

There is some info on the following link:

Movie Maker and Flip digital camcorders
    http://www.Papajohn.org/mm2-CamcordersFlip.html

(FWIW in Windows Live Movie Maker 7...) MP4 files

Then, convert the video to the. WMV format.

There are many programs that can do conversions...

    Format Factory

    (the 'direct link' is faster)
(the file you want to download is: > FFSetup260.zip<>
    (FWIW... installation..., you can uncheck
('all' boxes on the last screen)

First, you will need to decompress the file or just open the
Drag FFSetup260.exe out of the folder
and drop it on your desktop. To install left click.

Next, after the download and installation of Format
Factory... you can open the program and
left click on the toolbar, the "Option" button and
"Select an output folder to" / apply / OK.
(this is where you find your files after they)
    are converted)

Drag and drop your video clips on the main screen...

Select "all to WMV" / OK...

Click on... Beginning... in the toolbar...

    That should do it...

Now, the clamps must be compatible with Movie Maker.

    Good luck.
