I have the genuine key, but my original CD/DVD has mutilated. When I enter the key, it does not work.

  • Failed to activate after reinstalling

I've recently updated my processor and motherboard on my home PC, requiring a reinstall of Windows.  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I bought a pack of 3 family and installed on 3 computers (one of them is the computer that I just upgraded).  When I am going through the online activation process, it tells me that my product key cannot be used on this computer.  I tried the telephone automated system, which accepted my key, but asked me how many computers I had already activated on, and when I said "three", he told me my license Windows had exceeded the number of licenses (or something to that effect).  There is no option to tell him that I have reinstall it on one of the three.  When I called customer service, they told me to try the phone activation once, I did and it failed with the same results (I told them he would, but they said it should work).  Does anyone have other ideas? I had to 'disable' Windows before the upgrade to free a license?

    Please note:

The Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack Upgrade 3 PCs is an upgrade license.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

    Note also:

Because you have changed the motherboard, the upgrade license has more a previous qualification license. Your license precedent provided with the motherboard that you have replaced is not transferable to the new motherboard.

The OEM of Windows 7 versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

  • Windows 7 will not activate after a clean install and several improvements to my computer.

I bought a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.  I installed my old hardware running, but found Windows 7 either too many resources.  When there was enough money kicking around to upgrade my computer a few months later I did (new card mother cpu and ram).  Windows 7 would not start normally or in safe mode, my old installation of XP would not boot normally but would start in safe mode.  So I reinstalled Windows 7 with a clean install (reformatted my hard drive) and it works fine but now it won't turn on!  It says that I have to type in a different product key because I typed the product key cannot be used to activate Windows on my computer.

I understand the need to fight against piracy, but the thought that I can't upgrade my computer without having to buy another product key is ridiculous!  There are solutions to this problem?

Activate manually.  It is detect your previous installation and seeing this as an attempt to install the product on another computer.  It is a common phenomenon.

To activate manually, go to start, search, and type in slui 4 enter.  Enter your country and press Next.  You will be on a screen with a phone number and a bunch of codes below.  Dial the number and browse automatic guests until you get to a human being.  Have your handy product code because it will be asked.  Explain the situation, but it's the same PC and only installed on this PC.  They should give you a code to enter on this screen to activate the operating system.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

If this does not work (these procedures are for Vista, but I guess they will work with Windows7), and then republish your questiion in Windows7 Forums:http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/threads where they can provide the procedure for this OS if it is different.

If I understand correctly, you are facing a problem with the Windows Activation. I'll help you find a solution, but I need to ask you a few questions.

Do you have any security program installed on the computer? Have you done a recent software or changes to the material on the computer?

This is an excellent article with some good measures to help solve problems with activation. Follow the steps and tell us if it helps.

To do: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. • Windows prompt me to activate

Windows does not want to activate. If I insert the product key, it begin as if we was trying to validate or activate but ends and give an error message. The bad news is that when I bought this laptop from a computer plug they gave me two operating systems which WXP and Vista with a single product key below. So if anyone has a solution to my problem, cause kindly help this operating system has been installed, but a message telling me to activate windows won't leave the screen.

We cannot help you as to what operating system product key refers to: XP or Vista.

The product key on the sticker usually refers to the original operating system that was installed.

And XP was released before Vista.
