Windows SBS 2011 - allocation processor

We have a SBS 2011 with about 30 users. I've assigned my VM 32 GB of RAM and 1 processor (x 1, 1 x core processor). My ESXi 5.0 host has a lot of spare resource:

Any tips on what I should spend? I'm a little confused as to if I should assing multiple processors or multiple cores CPU?

Thanks for your comments. Best regards, Oliver

SBS 2011 is a frankenstien of a running server like its Exchage Windows, AD and sometimes even more.  I would assign CPU as much as necessary to ensure that your do not pin the CPU but users always get a good expereince.  Seeing that you are hosting is a core of decision-making 6 duel CPU, you could go as high as 2vCPU 6core each, but I wouldn't go that far.  I would say 6core 2-4vCPU or 1vCPU, or the other is fine.    Or start at 2vCPU and continue to work your way up until you reach a middle ground.

  • Why the Windows Vista client gets the IP address of the Windows SBS 2011 as default DNS server?

I use Windows Vista on a client computer that is connected to our Windows Server SBS 2011 server. I don't want to use the DNS server on the local server and the DNS addresses are automatically collected on our router. Every time I have to restart my computer or disconnect / reconnect the connection to the local network, the default DNS server address is set back to static and has the IP address of the local server, which makes it much slower DNS specifications.

Can I disable this automatic update of address of DNS server somehow? In fact, I don't want to run a DNS server on the local server.

  • Does anyone has installed SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows SBS 2011 Standard?

I know that SBS Premium Add on SQL Server 2008 R2 and install this will work.  However, if I have a copy of SQL 2008 R2 on the spot, I would like to know if there are any problems with the installation of this application because of Windows SBS already has SQL Server (Management Console) already installed.  Of previous experience has anyone attempted to install a stand-alone SQL Server 2008 R2 on top.  I would like to know possible problems before running this task.  Thank you.

  • Windows SBS 2011 see workstation offline after DNS changer Malware

So I do a job in an office job for a severely infected by malicious software, and after cleaning today, I noticed that he had been infected by a virus change of DNS. I ran across the computer 4 times (Safe Mode 2, 2 Reg Boot) with Malwarebytes and Roguekiller to make sure the infection is gone. After disinfection completely the computer it works much better, in fact the only problem, is that the AV Corp. we use normally on all our computers can not reinstall it from our server, now when checking the server for the PC from the management console, the server displays it as in offline mode. However the PC can access everything on the server and can even connect remotely, and are under the IPv4 DNS info is correct. I did a flush DNS and registry changes just to make sure and still nothing. Reaching out to the community to see if someone has experienced this problem or has an idea of what needs to be done.

  • I have a server with windows Small Business Server 2011. I need to uninstall windows SBS and install Win 7 pro on this server and use it as my personal computer. is this possible?

I have a server that I do not use. She has windows SBS 2011.  I need to convert this powerful server to my PC I need.  Please tell me if this is possible, and how to do this.

    Thank you

Could you provide the specifications of the server?

Companies often convert departmental servers to client machines of the time when they are upgrading to the most recent. The process should be easy by inserting the Windows 7 disc and perform a custom installation.

I saved the Win 8 drivers before reformat the drive, but they do not work for SBS.

    Hello:

Unfortunately, I don't think that you will find the drivers for this operating system - even from the mfr websites.

I just checked the Realtek Web site for the drivers for the ethernet controller, and there aren't any.

They have Windows 2008 server, but not 2011.

Specifications to run SBC 2011, the minimum hardware requirement is a quad core processor, which is not your PC.

  • SBS 2011 DVD wouldn't work, cannot restore.

I recently had a scare at the restoration of SBS 2011.

Basically, I had a problem where I couldn't boot into windows server 2008.  I do daily backups of windows, so I thought no worries, I will simply bring until yesterday.  I started on Windows SBS 2011 DVD I used to install it and click on restore and it told me that it wasn't the right version for the restoration, even if it's the CD that I used to install it (I upgraded service pack for installation).

Basically I could not access the restorations on my backup drive because he told me that it wasn't the same version of windows.

How can I fix this is do not have another DVD and windows do not allow me to create a restore in WIndows 2008 server startup disk, as they now rely soly on the installation DVD?

Part of the problem may be the server that is installed was a server Fujitsu requiring the installation of sbs in a quite unique way which was a pain, but I guess only on that.

    Please help!

  • SBS 2011 and Windows 2008 file share

I have a sbs 2011 and a regular Server 2008 domain. I need to set up a file share that can see both areas. I discovered what a normal two-way transitive trust between them is a bad idea. Wanting to know if there is a better way to do it by side just setting up user accounts in the regular field of 2008 (where the share resides) which corresponds to the account of sbs domain, setting up the collective right to the share, and map the drive to the sbs domain workstations. I don't like this method because changing a password on the sbs domain would require a manual modification to synchronize on the regular field.

  • BSOD drives when adding T110 ii with PERC H200 and SBS 2011 or Server 2008 R2-

Bought the server next in November 2011

    PowerEdge T110 II

    ManufDate: 24/10/2011 market: 06/11/2011
    RAM: 16 GB (4 x 4) 1333 mhz UDIMM DualRanked
    Processor: Xeon E3-1270 3.4 Ghz, 8 M cache, Turbo, Quad Core/8 t (80W)
    RAID: Map Perc H200
    Drive: 2 x 600GB 15K RPM SCSI 6Gbps 3 .5in - RAID 1 Mirror SA
    SBS 2011 standard x 64 (works on Win 2008R2)

SBS 2011 installed without a problem and the server works perfectly since December 2011.  Backups occurring twice per day to a USB attached hard drive external 1.5 to and OS patches applied on a monthly basis without problem.

Company need more storage so it wanted to add 2 drives more (same spec as to purchase). I thought to try to turn the RAID 1 pair in RAID 10 set in order to keep the simple logical configuration (a single large logical volume which now seems to be 1.2 TB in size instead of 600 GB) - could get but not really someone to describe if it could be done for non-destructive way that requires not the complete system installation/restoration - so opted for just add the 2 new drives as a RAID extra 1 pair in order to not reach a stable, boot, partition operating system running on the current RAID 1 pair.

Contracted for the Dell technician to come out to install 2 new readers, be clear that the service was not complete until I had an extra pair of RAID 1, appearing as a usable operating system.

Technician arrived, installed readers, set the new RAID pair in the H200 configuration utility, rebooted the system and when the BONES began to load had a blue screen BSOD. Technician then disconnected drives newly associated (the level of the cables) to see if the system would boot - BSOD again on restart (both of now get us this "pleated" feel if you know what I mean). Then went into the raid configuration utility, removed the new raid 1 volume (which, by the way, is appeared above the one existing in the list - which is not very intuitive that one that has been added is Volume 1 and the existing old is Volume 2 in the utility). After the triple-checking that we had the right volume (it showed that 8% initialized over the other which was complete, as well as the corresponding drive port numbers), we have REMOVED the new volume (at this point I don't remember if we had replaced the cables for the readers to perform this action).

At startup the system rebooted normally - we were all so relieved, don't talk over retries at the moment.

Talk to Dell there seems to be a problem with the PERC H200 firmware or drivers. Has not affected the config initial of a single pair of RAID 1, however caused problems when you attempt to add another pair. Escalation of Dell support said that has happened several times with Windows 2008 (which comes from the SBS 2011) systems. They recommended that the firmware update and the PERC H200 card drivers.

I turned to the technician and asked when we could plan the updates of the firmware and driver and told him that they wouldn't do that (not sure that I blame the poor guy, he was sweating bullets after the BSOD 2nd).  I explained that we have contracted for installation services which included ensuring that the pair of extra disk appeared also usable for the operating system and he said that I needed to talk to Dell that.

You wanted to post information on issues with PERC H200 BSOD when adding disks on Win2008 (or SBS 2011).

Waiting for response from Dell as to who will come on-site to complete the installation.

Any info about the question to know if the update of the firmware/driver will solve the problem or if I can do with reliability a disk 2 RAID 1 for a 4 disk RAID 10 conversion without having to reinstall/restore system would be appreciated.

There is NO migration route TO or FROM a nested RAID levels (10, 50, 60) on one of the PERC H series, so it goes from 1 to 10 of RAID is not an option (without backup/replace/create/restore).

Firmware release notes do not indicate that a large part is added (although the "bugs" may be enough):

-Addition of Support for > 2.2 to SAS hard drives

    -Small bug fixes

I have not seen/heard talk of this problem (I don't have a H200), but it is possible that an update of the firmware can change the way it handles the new disks, newly configured RAID arrays, or even how it presents to the OS.

Do you know if the technician checked to see if the original VD was marked as boot VD?
