Windows Server 2003 virtual domain

Hi people, I have a Virtual Server 2003 running on WMWare workstation. I run the DCPromo.exe command to make the server to a domain controller if I use AD with it. I'm basically wanting to use the virtual server so I can create a domain (mydomain.com) thereon for testing purposes. I have my 70-290 exam coming up and want me able to put in place a field (even though its probably not under review).

The problem is that I can't get the Windows 7 workstation that is running the virtual machine to join the domain of servers. Same ping IP address of servers I do not get a replica of the workstation. However, I can get a response from pinging the server to the workstation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Isn't that to join the windows domain will cause you problems, but it is much easier to have a client as a test bench that is not hosting the rest of the test environment (IE if you configure GPOS evil on your customer and that the customer is a virtual machine, it won't affect anything else)

    • Data recovery backups fail to advance at the beginning of the task

    In the course of the incremental backup of a virtual machine, data recovery would not make progress and the backup appliance afficheraient 100% of the CPU. • Windows Server 2003 P2V domain controller

    I tried to understand the best way to do it.  We have a backup domain controller that is programmed to be either P2V would or recreated as a virtual machine.  Whatever it is, it's going to happen in our cluster HA.  I wonder if we can make just a P2V using the converter bootable without problems or would it not be better to organize a new virtual machine, and then go through the process of promotion and demotion.  Has anyone ran into any ING questions P2V one domain controller?  I can't really find any advice on this with the exception of a Microsoft document.  I looked on the forum and the exchange of Experts, and the general consensus seems to be, just do not do.  It is best to start from scratch.  I said why?  What happens when you P2V one domain controller?  If this isn't a secondary domain controller, so what about the PDC?  Are there unwritten rules on that?  A white paper that can be nice to look at?  Any help that anyone can give would be great.  For us, the easy way is to P2V, but if this isn't a good idea, then I guess we have the opposite effect.

  • How to activate the Internet connection on Windows Server 2003 is installed in the virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8?

    I have Windows Server 2003 is installed on a virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8. I need it to learn and practice the use of the Active Directory. I've also set up 3 Windows XP workstations connect to it, which means that they can communicate with Server 2003. What is lacking is the Internet connection on all of them. When I run ping 8.8.8.8 in one of these virtual machines, I get, 'Destination host unreachable.'

    I'm not sure, what if the problem comes from the settings in Windows or the settings of the virtual machine.

    Can someone help me?

    Thank you, guys. I was finally able to put in place. It was quite an ordeal to deal with IP addresses and virtual networks. Here's how I did (in the screenshots) in case someone else needs it.

    (I also confess that it is perhaps one of the ways to implement. Maybe there is an easier way to do it with DHCP...)

    1. in your computer where is installed VMware Workstation 8 begin the "Virtual Network Editor." It is located in the folder of installation of VMware Workstation. And implement the network following (VMnet2 in my case):

    2 then in VMware Workstation itself in the virtual machine when Windows Server 2003 is installed set up two network as connections:

    This one is for external access to the Internet:

    And this one for intranet communications AD:

    3. then in the machine virtual de Windows Server 2003 set up what follows for two network adapters:

    For Internet access:

    Then, you need allow this connection to share:

    And then for the ad access to workstations (ensure that the static IP address is in the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor). I've also set up DNS to 127.0.0.1 because I installed on this Windows 2003 DNS server:

    4. from the Windows 2003 VM try ping 8.8.8.8. It should work now.

    5. go to each workstation, in my case, Windows XP, each in its own virtual machine and set up the network in the VMware Workstation as follows:

    6. then in the virtual machine, configure the network connection for Windows XP workstation. Don't forget to assign a new static IP address for each workstation, which not coinside with IP of the domain (this IP address must come from the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor):

    7. try first ping the domain, in my case ping 192.168.237.128. And then Internet, ping 8.8.8.8. The two should work!

    Continue with steps [5-7].

  • Implementation of a virtual disk that is shared for clustering in Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

    Hello world

    I'm relatively new to Vmware, and I have no knowledge of Linux commands. Here's my problem I have Vmware Workstation 7 installed on my PC, I installed Vmware ESX 4.1 in and use Vsphere client to connect to the ESX Server. I installed 3 Virtual Machines each running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. The first DC1 server I set up like the DC with AD, DNS and DHCP, the other two servers called CLR-SVR-1 and/CLR-SVR-2 I have joined to the domain, but did not make them a domain controller. I want to create a 2 cluster nodes, but when I try the installation I get an error message not Quorum shared disk was found, and a second NETWORK adapter is required (although I have 2 network cards installed on the virtual machine).

    I tried to use the vmkfstools to create a floppy disk, but when I turn on the virtual computer, I get an error that I have not used the thick option (I entered this command, vmkfstools thickness - a free - 1 c d G vmfs/volumes/datastore2/CLRDISK/CLR.vmdk, but it didn't work).

    Can someone explain please how to do step by step to someone who knows nothing about Linux or vmware CLI commands commands?

    PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS TO YOU ALL.

    Take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1004617. This KB links to documentation MSCS he for different versions of ESX. I think the last doc on 4.0 U1 should work for 4.1 as well.

  • Virtual machines, run extremely slow when the console is consulted 2 virtual machines Windows Server 2008 64-bit, Windows Server 2003 32-bit, 2 VMWare for virtual machine

    I'm in a difficult situtaition here.  I am the daily contact with a new client.  My linux guy, who is also my boss who is very busy, asked me to do some research trying to find answers for what's not on this server. We have a dual Quad Core 2.5 Ghz Lenovo server with 10 GB of ram.  2 500 GB hard drives are Raid 1.  We run Virtual Server VMWare 2 on a Debian with Gnome installation as a user interface for the side of things Linux.  Grub is the boot loader. There are two virtual machines running on the server.  The one machine that serves as a domain controller is a Windows SBS 2008 Server 64 bit, and the secondary machine has no responsibility domain.  The second machine is a Windows Server 2003 32-bit.  the 10 GB of ram 6 GB is allocated to the SBS server and 4 GB to the 2003 server.

    The problem I am running into is that everything is so slow, especially if I connect remotely to do any sort of administration on the network.  Some examples of issues I've noticed is that as soon as I log on the server via Remote Desktop SBS console management Windows Server spike to 80-95% CPU usage and it will not stop unless I close the management console.  Another instance is that if I open Backup Exec 12.5 on the SBS server it will kill the speed of the processor as well.  Long story short, there are a lot of machine to do what we need to do, but something is not configured right and non of us know what it is.  Another point to note is that the server has been in production for about 3 weeks, and the server seemed to have locked up just twice.  My professional guess is that over time, some chose thing is eating causing the crash of the memory.

    Sorry I do not have much technical insight on this topic, but this is the best I have to offer.  Any questions you all have, I'll ask my people and see if I can answer, but I could really use your help here.

    Thank you in advance,

    Heath

    2 things:

    1 you really need hard drives more than 2 in a RAID 1 for proper performance under load. More disks the better. Although I don't think that's what your problem is, he'll probably be the problem Next you will do.

    2. I don't know exactly where the configuration file is on your box of Debian for VMware Server, but you should consider adding the following options in the configuration file (on windows, it's the vmware 'config.ini'):

    prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "100".

    MemTrimRate = 0

    sched.mem.pshare.Enable = "FALSE".

    mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE".

    If you do some research, you can read about what these options (the largest is the memory page sharing - it should only be left on if you have a bunch of similar virtual machines running on the same box, that you don't have.) I honestly know why this is on by default, he kills the CPU when virtual machines are running different operating systems). These are the options that I now use standard in VMware Server deployments, with huge performance increases after you have added the. Just give a try.

    Edit: Also make sure that you have installed in your virtual machines VMware tools.

  • Windows server 2008 r2 domain controller deletes printers on windows 2003 Server

    We have recently installed two new Windows Server 2008 R2 servers in our field.  one of the new servers is the new domain controller (successor of Windows Server 2003 SBS, which has been decommissioned).  There are two other Windows 2003 servers in the domain.  When we turn off all servers for maintenance and then power them back on, the print on the windows 2003 Server spooler crashes; printers are deleted and the server does not allow you to add printers.  is this be caused by some settings in windows server 2008 r2?  This happened twice, and the solution is to rub the print on the windows 2003 Server spooler and reinstall the printers from scratch.

  • How to disable prior authentication logs on to Windows Server 2003

    Hello

    I was wondering if anyone knew a way to disable the prior authentication logs on to a Windows Server 2003 in the Event Viewer, we continue to receive many of these on our replication server that's used to be the PDC, as it is now a secondary to replicate the domain controller until we have completed the migration of all the stuff on the last domain controller. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Windows Server 2003 migration

    Hello world

    According to your experience, I would like to get your opinion on the best approach to migrate a Windows Server 2003 domain controller and all the services available thereon.

    A few details:

    In our network, we have 2 Windows Server 2003, one is the domain controller that is the DNS server, DHCP server, file server, mail server (Exchange) and support our intranet (sharepoint 3.0). The other host our SQL Server 2005 (which has 2 databases, intranet and our ERP database).

    In our infrastructure, we have about 50 users, some printers (4) network and about 10 items of group policy.

    Thank you in advanced for your review.

    Hello

    I have an Windows Server 2003 with Windows XP Pro SP3 clients/members area and allows you to push critical updates for WSUS clients.

    However, updates are not pushed to the remote clients even with the connected VPN tunnel.  The only time updates are pushed to these remote clients is when they visit the office and connect to our LAN.

    Is there a way for remote clients to get their updates without having to remove them as a member of my domain?

  • Impossible to logon to share the folder with "User must change password at the next logon" in Windows Server 2003

    I use Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 as a file server.  I create new user 'A' in Windows Server 2003 as well with the option "user must change password at the next logon" selected and give way under the group users and users in the domain for this user.  I then share an output folder.  User 'A' is using Windows XP SP3 to connect to this shared folder.  However, when I try to connect, Windows reappear to enter user name and password.  I think it is the limitation in Windows that the user 'A' will be unable to change the password at the next logon or change password at any point in time at all.  Correct me if I heard wrong.

    If possible, can someone enlighten me what is wrong or what I need to do for user to access folder and change the password on the first logon.

    If what I described is not possible, is there another way for me to configure for the user to access share folder so that the user doesn't have to join domain or user of the AD?
