Windows Setup - cache to another drive

Hello

I'll put up a new PC for first pro and Captivate on Windows 8 now that 6.1 is certified

http://forums.Adobe.com/message/5102226#5102226

You can change the location of the cache project in Captivate.

But I know that you have problems, if you put it on a network drive.

Are there any speed or other advantages or disadvantages if you put the Captivate cache on a different drive to your project for the speed?

the implementation will build on this thread will be setting up

http://forums.Adobe.com/thread/662972

C: is a 250 GB SSD for the OS, file exchange and prgrams

D: is a HD 1 TB for first pro, media project and the Office

E: is a HD 1 TB for first pro previews, hiding them from media and exports

Renovator rgds

I have project cache on a drive other than the CP-files. As long as these disks/partitions are not on a network, not a problem.

  • Is it possible that I can transfer all my Windows Setup disc to another while retaining my registry and let my games installed on the original drive?

I want to do is transfer my installation of Windows on a smaller hard drive while leaving my games on the current hard drive. I would also like to keep my registry so I need to reinstall the programs/games as little as possible. Thank you!

    It won't happen!

Even if you succeeded in transfer Windows to another drive open programs that remain on the other hard drive will not be able to open.

When programs have been installed, the locations have been written to the Windows registry would know where to find them.

Your route only for what you want to do, is install Windows on the smaller disk and reinstall all your programs to the other disk.

  • Windows Setup does not load driver Marvell D20

    Hello

Installation: D20, the Marvell controller are attached: 2xHDDs RAID1 and an Intel SSD in a RAID configuration.

The machine was initially installed with Windows 8.1 (on RAID1 disks), most later improved to W10.

After a recent, (unknown to me), Windows problem entered a loop 'ASR Preparation. "

I tried to use USB to recovery, but he did not see the drives.

At this stage, downloaded driver from Marvell of the lenovo Web site. Note that there is only the version W7/W8.

Tried to load the driver in Windows (for Windows 10) recovery, the load was successful, but start DISKPART after that froze the recovery. (Also tried to integrate the driver using NTLite, which resulted in recovery of freezing at startup).

Has given up trying to recover and created 10 Windows USB installation. When I'm at the stage of selection of drive installation and selected the pilot of the "Load driver" dialog, the installation get stuck and animation of course load just went on and on. Subsequently tried to create Windows 8.1 and same media to install Windows 7. Also, who is stuck on the step "load driver".

During the tests, I tried using different USB (version 3.0 and 2.0) drives. Also downloaded the driver for the Marvell from another Web site, just in case. Tried resetting the BIOS with the default settings. Nothing helps.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

Thanks for the reply, I thought I posted what the problem was, but apparently I forgot.

The problem turned out to be the SSD. BIOS and Windows recognized, but as soon as I/o operations were made, the player brought to stall. Even the first test SMART said the player was healthy, but the after run the test again, he has not done, and the drive is completely dead. Remove the SSD brought the machine back to life.

    Thanks again.

  • How to change the location of the CACHE to another drive

Cache of my Bridge is located on my C drive, which is almost full.  I would like to change the location of the cache on the D drive, which is also a hard drive internal, but with plenty of available space.  Unfortunately, when I go to preferences and click on the 'Choose' button for the location of the cache, it only shows me my C drive.  I'm 99% sure that I initially installed all of the creative cloud on my C drive, but then uninstalled and reinstalled on my D drive (because of space reasons).  It seems that if the application resides on drive D, but all the remains of data of the app on the C drive.

Is there anyway to access the D drive for the cache?

Is there anyway to move the app on my D drive data files?

    Thank you

    Paul

    It's weird.

I would try the following as a workaround.

First make a folder on your drive D as D:\Bridge Cache.

Then place a shortcut to this folder on your desktop.

Maybe that way you can access this folder.

You can delete the shortcut later.

  • Windows Setup could not configure Windows on hardware of this computer Installation error on the new hard drive

Okay so if please bear with me and be patient.  I'm not tech savvy.  I know enough to be able to remove an old hard drive and put another one, but when there are errors, I don't know what to do.

    Here's the situation.

I have a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 installed.  I started having these notifications that my hard drive could be a failure.  I tried everything that I could find to fix it without having to buy a new HARD drive without success.  The current system has a 1 TB Seagate hard drive.  I installed a memory additional bar thingie right after that I got the computer about 4 years ago.  (If someone tells me how to find the properties of real system, I post them if necessary).  Anyway, I bought a new WD 1 TB black disk hard to install before my old dies and loses all my photos and documents, etc...

I took the old drive yesterday and installed the new hard drive.  I put back the case and turned on the machine.  I put in my Windows 7 installation disc.  He began installing Windows 7... It's completely past the initial screen where it says it to load it and the other... I had accepted the license agreement, but did not have to make a profile and do the work and the reader.  I hope all this makes sense.  Then it pops up this message "installing Windows could not set up Windows on hardware on this computer."  I couldn't figure out what to do from there.  I got the new drive and put the old one back to and here I am. I tried to find solutions to this problem, but I either don't can't make heads or tails out of the responses on the internet or the solution is not exactly my problem.

Please help if you can!  And if you have any suggestions, please dumb them down so I can understand what to do.  I CAN do if loaded, you just have to not talk too irritable.  Laughing out loud

    Thank you in advance!

    Maybe not...

The Windows installation is not happy about something, and since it gets at least started which is a good thing, but your installation problem can not really be with Windows - perhaps something about Dell hardware or your 1 TB HARD drive.

I looked at your system and found this article that you can read to see if it sounds like your original question:

Windows Setup could not configure Windows on hardware on this computer.

    http://www.Dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN293812/en

Since Dell has written an article for help on this subject, it means they've met enough times to take the time to compose the article and put it on their WWW site (but, they say, it is a possible resolution).

Could you take the issue in the Dell online community where experts hang out (especially your amber light).

Another good place for support is www.bleepingcomputer.com where there is a similar topic as your question (except Vista) on a Dell and a new disk of 1 TB (also a Seagate) and Dell ideas did not work, but someone else has found a way to fix it:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/453378/installation-fails-to-complete-on-new-HDD/

The bleepingcomputer for your error message search reveals other areas and people who have got things to work in different ways, then it is perhaps another place to look for ideas.

If the installation still fails it would not hurt to do the BIOS setting and see if things are getting longer, and since you are going to write the current settings before proceeding with the adjustment you can always cancel the adjustment if things get worse.

  • Windows XP Setup cannot find hard drive

    Running VMWare Fusion 2.01 (128865).

I'm doing a repair of my installation of Windows XP Service Pack 3 on the VM.  I am able to boot from the CD and start the Windows Setup successfully.

However, installing Windows says it is unable to find a hard drive and cannot continue.

When I hit F3 and restart the computer, the virtual machine load XP on the virtual hard disk as before.

How can I get the Windows installation to recognize my virtual hard disk and do a repair?

Take a look at the following...

If the virtual machine was created using Windows Installer Easy or has a VMware SCSI virtual hard disk, you must download the Drivers SCSI VMware and select the file vmscsi - 1.2.0.4.flp like the floppy drive of the virtual machine in the Virtual Machine settings sheet of the target. This disk image contains the necessary VMware SCSI disk drivers when booting with the Windows XP CD and you will need to press F6 when it says "press F6 if you need to install...". "at the bottom of the Virtual Machine window and it will then invite the driver after he continues to load additional files. Just follow the guests.

BTW you may need to press the Fn + F6 etc. and this can be changed in system preferences > keyboard & mouse > keyboard > use all F1, F2, etc...

If the Virtual Machine is not initiating the CD/DVD or ISO Image, and then select the CD-ROM in the Boot Menu.

Engage the Boot Menu and select the CD-ROM drive...

The bottom of the virtual machine just above the status bar after the Virtual Machine is started, it has...

"Press F2 to enter SETUP, F12 for the start-up network, ESC for Boot Menu"

On the status bar, it features...

'To direct entry to this virtual machine, click inside the window.'

BIOS flashing by is very fast so you need to work quickly however give it a try and if the Start Menu cannot be higher then the configuration of the Virtual Machine file .vmx must be edited to slow the STATION and or change the boot order.

OK, click the big Play button on the screen of the virtual machine, and then quickly mouse click in the Virtual Machine screen and then press the ESC key to bring up the Start Menu and select the CD-ROM drive. If it boots the CD very well and if the Boot Menu does not appear, because he goes just to quick access and then try again or...

Watch the Boot Delay section in the current user's Guide to VMware Fusion and the section of the virtual machine files of A Beginner's Guide to VMware Fusion on when the configuration of the Virtual Machine's .vmx file is and add the following lines to the file. TextEdit can be used to edit the .vmx file.

To give more time to indulge, the Start Menu Add the following...

    bios.bootDelay = "3000".

For, once, force the VM in the BIOS to change the Boot order in the BIOS if the CD-ROM is first add the following...

    bios.forceSetupOnce = 'TRUE '.

Note: by default in the normal Fusion 1.x virtual Fusion function file are created in the folder "~/Documents/Virtual Machines" and according to host operating system version and or Fusion worm. There may be a .localized after Virtual Machines although by default, this extension is not visible in the Finder.

    ~ Is your Home Directory.

The files that make up the virtual machine are placed in a folder (aka Bundle and or packing) bearing the extension '.vmwarevm' which, by default, this extension is not visible in the Finder.

Example: "~/Documents/Virtual XP.vmwarevm Machines/Windows" in the Finder would just resemble an icon named "Windows XP."

To view the contents of the entire file "Windows XP.vmwarevm" ctrl-click (or right-click) on the "Windows XP" icon and select Show the contents of the package.

To change the configuration file of .vmx ctrl-click (or right-click) on the "Windows XP.vmx" file and select open with > choose another... then in Application choose TextEdit.

Note: If you use Firefox do not copy and paste the parameters if TextEdit unless you copy only the exact line and nothing else in the case, use an editor such as TextWrangler.

    Also...

When you use utility disk in order to have a bootable ISO Image, you must select Master CD/DVD without encryption in which case by default, it will have an extension .cdr file and in version 1.1 of the merger and later does not need to be changed in .iso, although one can if one chooses to. A default .dmg image is compressed and is not bootable, as an uncompressed .dmg will start if changed in .iso and of course the source CD/DVD should be bootable in the first place.

To create an ISO Image using disk utility...

1 insert the CD or DVD disc into the optical drive of your computer.

    2. open disk utility (/ Applications/Utilities/Disk utility).

    3. Select the CD or DVD drive in the list of disks and volumes.

    4. Choose file > new > "Disk Image from (name of the disc)."

    5. type a name for the disk image.

    6. choose "DVD/CD master" from the Image Format pop-up menu.

7 choose "none" from the encryption pop-up menu.

    8. click on save.

    Also...

Take a look on: VMware Fusion menu bar > help > VMware Fusion help > manage virtual machine > configure the CD/DVD drive

Probably the installation media itself is corrupt. If your Alienware is preinstalled with Windows 7, then you should be able to reinstall using the recovery partition:

New computers that come pre-installed with Windows often have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

To restore the image while preserving the data files:
    Turn off your computer.1.
Disconnect all devices connected to the computer (such as USB key, 2 printer and so forth) and remove any recently added hardware in-house. NOTE: Do not unplug the AC adapter cable.
    Turn on your ordinateur.3.
When the Alienware logo appears, press several times to access the 4. Advanced Boot Options window. NOTE: If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Microsoft Windows desktop; then, shut down your computer and try again.
    Select 5. Repair your computer.
Select 6. AlienRespawn and backup emergency in the System Recovery Options menu and follow the instructions on the screen. NOTE: The restore process may take an hour or more depending on the size of the data to be restored. NOTE: For more information on AlienRespawn, see article 353560 at support.Dell.com knowledge base.

If the recovery partition does not work:

Step 1: Download a copy of Windows 7:

For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. File ISO in Digital River, which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.

It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.

Given that this option is no longer available, what are your options? See the article for more details:

How to: What are my options for Windows 7 reinstall media?

Make sure you scroll down and read the section:

What to do if you cannot get your manufacturer recovery media, refuse to use or to buy it or the Microsoft Software Recovery Website does not work?

Step 2: Perform a custom installation, see Windows 7 section of the following article how to perform a custom installation:

How to: perform a customized Windows installation

    Step 3:

  • How can I move the Virtual Mode of Windows XP hard drive to another drive

How can I move the Virtual Mode of Windows XP hard drive to another drive?

    TIA

    Hi Benyl,

The vhd in programfiles basis cannot be moved or renamed, if done, xp mode stops at the start.

To move the files under c, first to boot xp, instead of save mode the machine virtual., turn it off. (settings to prompt the user for action narrow close). Close the machine virtual., and then choose stop. This will remove the vsv file. Do not delete the .vsv file because it contains data if you have not registered in the virtual machine.

Now, move it "C:\Users\CHRIS.domainname\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows virtual PC\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Mode.vhd" to a desired location.

Parameters of xp mode open, go to the hard drive 1 setting and reposition the hard drive to the new location of the vhd. You should now be able to start the virtual machine.

  • Can save us from the Windows updates to another drive to increase disk space

Hi I want to ask I can save the update of Windows to another example of player: as d ' drive, or an external hard drive, because the update are by default save to my c drive. And my c disk space becomes low.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for your query details.

I also appreciate that fact that you want to save the updates of Windows on another drive or location in order to increase the free space in C; drive.

Save updates of Windows on another drive location is not recommended because it can cause corruption in the system files which can lead to some unstable operating system. It can also affect Windows start the process.

Updates are automatically downloaded into the subfolder "C:\WINDOWS\Software Distribution\Download".

If you want to increase the disk space, I suggest you run Disk Cleanup and check if it helps.

    Please see this link:
    Delete files using disk cleanup
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup#delete-files-using-disk-cleanup=Windows-7

It removes temporary files, empty the "Recycle Bin", and removes a variety of file system and other items that you no longer need.

Note: When running Disk Cleanup on the disk hard if bad data files are found, all these data could be lost.

I also recommend move your data files stored on drive C: to another drive to increase disk space.

  • "Windows Setup cannot continue because a required driver could not be installed" while improving to 64-bit

I'm trying to install windows 7 64 on a 32-bit with the custom installation option. All is well until that right at the end of the installation it gives me this error "Windows Setup cannot continue because a required driver could not be installed. I tried this several times but the same results. I used the windows Upgrade Advisor to see if my computer is compatible and it is no problem.

Restore the previous installation of Windows and do the following:
1 disable any security software before you attempt to upgrade or do a clean install.
    2. make sure that your computer is updated (devices and applications)
    3. disconnect all external devices before installing.
    4. check your hard disk for errors:
    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /r
When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them.

In addition, run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it will scan your system and provide a report telling you if your PC can run Windows 7, and if there is no compatibility problems with your hardware or programs.

Yes, you would move the file catalog using your OS and then when its on the other disk, double-click it.

You probably to move your photos too, again make using your OS and keep the same folder structure, then plug back in Lightroom by following the instructions in this article (see Figure 4): http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder-old.htm
