Windows Update (cannot make it work)
Hello
Im having a problem trying to update my computer of partners through the update service.
whenever I try to do this I get the error CODE: 80080005.
I tried to do what was described in another post about the connections screen and through cmd try stop and start wuauserv,
Stop worked but I tried to start and system said he was already working. I tried to install vista service pack 2 live, but not a sausage.
anyone has an idea how to resolve this please?
Hi Candyheadchef,
Welcome to the responses of Microsoft Windows Vista forums.
Usually the "Windows is unable to Check For Updates" error message produced always of the blocker window update connection attempt.
1. first of all, please check that there is no any third-party firewall preventing Windows Update to communicate with "update.microsoft.com.
2. check if Windows Firewall is blocking the update of Windows.
Please see the following article for connection errors:

You may receive an error message "Error Code 80080005 - Server execution failed." When you start applications COM +.

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue

Method 2:
How to reset the Windows Update components?
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058Method 3:
Your anti-virus software is in conflict with Windows updates. You can test this by temporarily disabling your antivirus:
Disable the antivirus software
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-softwareNote: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Original title: update Windows impossible currently to check updates because the service doesn't work (Vista 64)
I get the message: ' Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. " You may have to restart your computer. "I rebooted without change.
I have Vista 64-bit with installed MSE and it cannot update its virus database. I have also Windows Media Center put up a TV and may not be able to download an updated Guide.
Can someone help me please? I just finished a full scan of Malwarebytes and a full scan of MSE - both in Mode safe mode with networking.
I found a few other forums similar to my problem, but I don't know that they are the same as mine. I'm a little wary about some of the suggested corrections, so I thought I would like to get suggestions directly related to my problem.
Thank you!

When I go to windows update a red shield with a white cross appears and when I click search for updates this message appears:
"Windows update cannot currently check updates because the service does not work, you will need to start the computer"
* Restared several times-nothing has changed
Despite what other threads have advised to:
I checked in the services and WINDOWS UPDATE, Background Intelligent Transfer Service or encryption services are not listed!
* I have changed the settings to "Never search updates" and then back to "install updates automatically" - nothing has changed
* I ran the Malicious Software Removal Tool http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/malware-removal.aspx- we say that everything was ok, but I can't always verify updates
* I ran the download to reset windows update components http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us but still I can not check updates
(Nothing is in the update history)
Am really worried!
Thank you!

I also suggest that you scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.
The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

Important: When performing analysis on the hard drive if bad sectors are found on the hard drive when parsing tent repair this sector if all available on which data can be lost. -

My product key on a new installation was invalid so then I activated by phone... now when I use windows update it is not working properly because it says that I don't have a genuine copy of windows... But it seems that the updates don't come down... is it ok to work this way?
To analyze and solve problems for Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag (download and save to the desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 ) tool
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the button continue, which will produce the report.
To copy the report in your response, click the button copy in the tool (ignore the error at this stage), and then paste (using r-click and paste or Ctrl + V) in your response.
Windows security updates will continue to come down the pipe under automatic updates, but you cannot access the General updates until the system to validate. -
I've upgraded to a replacement hard drive, but Windows Update won't work now. Everything else seems OK.

I restarted the computer a couple of times and in respect of the Services runs it the Windows Update service.
Operating system is Vista 64 bit.

Windows Update service will not work after upgrading the hard drive
I'm running Windows Vista 64 bit, Home Premium SP2 with 8 GB of ram. I recently cloned my hard drive OEM of 500 GB, 5400 RPM Toshiba MK5055GSX via a standalone, dual drive bay dock for upgrade to a 750 GB, 7200 RPM, Western Digital WD7500BPKT. Since the clone/upgrade, Service Windows Update does not work and gives the message: ' Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. " You may have to restart your computer. "And Yes, I checked and everything related to Windows Update seems to be 'turned on' or well defined, but the service will not work. Notes; Windows Update still works with the player "OEM", it is only the new WD drive that has the problem. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion on getting this problem is resolved.

Windows Update cannot verify the update and resists being fixed!
"The Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running." You may have to restart your computer. "This is on a HP Pavilion dv6000 / dv6426us. The computer has not been used for 3 (?) years. The system is Vista Home Premium SP1. The browser is Internet Explorer 7, version 7.0.6001.18000. Also HP Total Care Advisor is always installed and running a scan that reports of power is good, but this program is of course also obsolete. Since the resumption of employment, Norton Internet Security has been installed. Also installed PC TuneUp Maestro and Maestro own PC. These three seems to work well. I have already used in troubleshooting tool Windows Update / Microsoft Fix - it. Fixed some things, but the problem persists. Removed many temporary files. Uninstall some programs. Registry cleaning. All this made the computer a lot more lively, but Windows Update still does not work. Also tried Windows Update in safe mode and safe mode with networking: no response. I think that the file is damaged or missing. What can I try next? Can I download and install Windows Update manually (I can't find the place where)? And it's risky to use automatic updates?
