Windows Update failed two updates

KB2687483 with the 0x57A - Word 2003 error code

KB2687485 with the 0x57E - Word Viewer error code
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Update Word Viewer, it is likely fault because TI WU can't find the original source files. Uninstall and reinstall word Viewer, and then apply the required updates.

For Word 2003 KB2687483, try to install the file manually:

http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=34882

Leave the Word 2003 installation disc in the drive.

Most of the time for Office updates fail because the update cannot find the original source files.

  • Windows update fails on two laptops (0x80070005)

I have read many of these EM community responses/forum messages and trying to get two portable computers up-to-date with windows update (which currently does not work).  There is no other identifiable problems with a laptop.

    Cell phone 1: Vista SP2 - 32-bit (bought refurbished ~ 2010)

    History of AV:

McAffee (free ATT) for a number of years

AVG free - replaced McAffee (not expired)

Microsoft Security Essentials (became, after the problems started with Win Update)

This laptop was not able to update since the installation of the Windows Update agent in more recent 7.6.7600.256 (or shortly after).

    Laptop 2: SP1 of Win7 - 64 bit (given to nine bought 12/2015)

    History of AV:

AVG free - replaced McAffee (or what was the system when it happened)

Microsoft Security Essentials (became, after the problems started with Win Update)

This laptop apparently was not able to update since I started using it in 12/2015.

I noticed the lack of updates on my first Vista laptop (Netsvcs 100% of the CPU, but no update running)

Then, after struggling with my Vista laptop, I found that my laptop Win 7 could not be updated or the other (tracks of the quad core CPU Full - 25% of the total, but no updates).

Here's what I did (not necessarily in that order) on each machine:

    -Installed MS Security Essentials

No viruses found in any scan

-A tried to remove all traces of another (easier said than done) AV software including using McAffee and Norton removal tools

-Run Rkill, TDSSkiller and Malwarebytes anti-rootkit

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/TDSSKiller/

    https://www.Malwarebytes.org/AntiRootkit/

No virus/malware found in any scan

-Perform comprehensive analyses of MS Malicious Software Removal Tool

No virus/malware found (after many hours of scanning)

-Run the troubleshooting Windows Update tool

    https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/KB/971058

-Run Windows Update Fixit tool from MS Web sites

(Seems to be the same as the resolution of the problems, but on another page) The results indicate a problem of certification (of which it says it fixed) and the following error (0x80070005) rises (research indicates an ACCESS DENIED Error).

-Run the preparation of updated system (or CheckSUR) tool

    http://www.thewindowsclub.com/CheckSUR-system-update-readiness-tool

    -Run sfc/scannow

    -Run SubinACL reset.cmd

    http://www.thewindowsclub.com/Subinacl-tool-Windows-Update-error-0x80070005

    -Run Servicesrepair.exe ESET

    http://www.wintips.org/how-to-restore-Windows-services-to-their-default-state/

    -Run AccessChk (Sysinternals)

Wasn't sure if it worked properly on a machine (especially the Win 7 machine) from the .txt file was empty

-Tried to manually install the latest version of Windows Update (for both machines)

    https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/KB/949104

It did not work, the updates did not not happen manually in the same way. Cannot connect to or receive updates (high CPU, no activity of network/internet - browser and other apps have no internet access issue)

And a few other things, including hijackthis, startup in safe mode run utilities and a reinstall of IE and the reset Internet Explorer settings.

Again, not able to download or install updates of Windows (search for updates and never downloads or installs them).

I am considering wiping readers and start again, but that will be very difficult (and some people say that this problem persists after a complete re-install, which really, I don't want to spend by).

Anyone who has a better step by step procedure or other help - please let me know.

For some reason, I think that the problem comes from Windows Update agent 7.6.7600.256 and placed tight security download updates to Windows settings, but I could be wrong.  If it is a virus/malware/rootkit infection, none of the multiple scans that I made (from several AV scanners, mentioned above) have identified it.

If Windows 7 have problems to find updates, causing heavy CPU or RAM with the Svchost.exe process, use the reason that Windows Update could not automatically update the Windows Update Client.

in this case, you must download the update manually, it's the latest version at the moment: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3138612

  • Windows update fails-G62-225DX - bad startup a factory?

My nephew came to me recently with a G62-225DX HP, concerned about safety.  Given this machine is several years old (recently handed down from his father - I quickly understood why), I was surprised to see she was always being basic Windows 7 Home Premium.  Without SP1.

My first attempt to resolve this was to run Windows Update - no luck - immediately fails with "cannot run - services is not started.  Of course, verification services, yes I see WU and BITS running.

So, like any good tech person, I check in the case where the logs and see various errors, including the constant complaints on the Crypto database being corrupted.

Then, up to be Googling for these symptoms/messages.  I see many people with the same problem and a lot of suggestions on how to fix this (re - reg WU, STRANDS of clear/reset, flush/empty C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, catroot2 flush/empty, etc.).  Even seen one on the Intel hard drive problems due to replace it with a drive of more than 500 GB (this unit still has the original 320).

Spent hours trying all the suggestions there, especially when people said 'Yes, that fixed', nothing helps.

Since it was not something of value on this machine, I decide backup and restore "factory".

Imagine my surprise when, after reset of the image 'factory', it has exactly the same problem - Windows Update fails, out-of-the-box on the right!

I think to myself, it's crazy.  The machine is faulty from the start and everyone was naïve to not get Windows updates, AT ALL!

I even decided to try the Windows Update Checker (supposed to perform before installing SP1) and it fails with ' Windows Update Standalone install encountered and error - 0xc80000247 ".

So, I decided to run through the suggested fixes (from M$, no less) and all of a sudden, that Windows Update works.

I thought, it's fantastic.  He immediately calls to > 130 fixed critical.

After a few hours of download and installed, I restart only to get a BSOD - STOP 6 b - AAARRRGGGHHHH!  Tried to go through Windows restore previous checkpoint but that too fails with a mysterious error.  In addition, many Google hits on the 6 b says that it's a hardware problem.  But he was executed until the Windows update, with nothing in the case where newspapers to indicate hardware problems.

Then, I decided to do a restore from the image of what I started with.  At least it ran, even though she could not be updated.

I no longer dig and see a bunch of updates to the firmware/software for this machine, including the BIOS.  Even saw some strange 'Windows updates' HP.  I thought maybe it was something like the fiasco when the power management update for Intel processors had on machines AMD, thus paralyzing them!  Still nothing - WU still does not work!

Tried again to return to the original image, hoping that maybe to install all updates of office/hardware/driver on a virgin machine solve the problem.  Nope-WU still does not work.  Even went back through all the suggested fixed (saved as .bat files everthing).  Nothing, nada...

So, I'm posting here in hopes that someone has a miracle cure that I missed.

    Hello:

    I don't have a magic bullet...

The same thing happened to me while working on a friends HP 8100 Elite CMT, Windows 7 Pro, HP original image.

Would not install SP1 or Windows updates. I tried every trick in the book and after spending more than two hours, going nowhere, including restore from the recovery discs, I decided to install a plain OS W7 clean add drivers myself using the product key for W7 on the PC.

    It has worked well.

You can do the same thing if you can read the product key of W7 on the bottom of the laptop, and your nephew can't live without programs that was shipped with the PC.

In addition, if you format the drive and just install W7 on current partition, you can probably find the program of the installation files for the programs supplied with the PC in the SWSetup folder.

Here's how to do when you don't have installation of W7 media.

Use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. The link below. You need a DVD or a 4 GB flash drive using the USB compilation method.

Use the product key of windows 7 of 25 characters to activate your installation.

    http://download.CNET.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-download-tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below. Download the Windows 7 version that is on your product (Home Premium, professional or ultimate) key to apply.

  • Windows update fails with 0 x 80070424 among others (update agent will not install)

I tried to install iTunes 9.2 on my computer of girls running Vista 64 sp1.  It failed several times with an error message encrypted with public keys and RCH80.  I took this down to a problem of lack of security patches.  In the process, I noticed that Windows Update has been fails with error 0 x 80070424, indicating a required service was not running.

so I downloaded sp2, also the operation failed with error 0 x 80070424 even.  I checked the Background Intelligent Transfer and start-up and running (so I restarted), I checked Windows Update and it was also running and so I restarted.  Same result.  I've disabled UAC and restarted.  Still no joy.

Then I read an article on the subject, said a service called "Automatic updates" should be running, not only he was not running, did not exist. Some that I've been on something I downloaded "windowsupdateagent30 - x 64 .exe" to install the service.  Unfortunately, this fails with a fatal error, no number error, simply "windows has encountered a fatal error.

It is where I am at this time - trying to figure out a fix for this.  Thank you.  (I also disabled AV, firewall, etc., ran several antivirus scans, malware scans including Malware Bytes, AVG and Avast and MS Defender and rootkit detectors which come clean).

    Voila!

It's annoying that it is a known problem with the trustedinstaller.exe being corrupted and or deleted, but it is so hard to find an answer to the question.

[I am slot as Windows 7 Ultimate (free upgrade to Dell PC w/purchase) on a Dell 64 bit PC XPS435]
I've upgraded from Vista about 3 weeks ago.

#1 - Two weeks ago I had a problem with the installation of Nero/LiquidTV-TiVo to my PC... (this is also when the problem started).
To get the "Nero" thing figured out, I took the advice of someone on the Forum/Blog of Nero. The person has provided a lenghty explanation how to uninstall LiquidTV completely by removing the registry files... I don't really know what I'm doing in the registry, but everything that I helped my problem of Nero, but I couldn't tell you WHAT I deleted OR if I have deleted any bad subfolders or whatnot!... the next time I started my PC is when the NEW NUMBER is right.

#2 - On my next BOOT, Windows Update has found an IMPORTANT update:

A security update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x 64 systems (KB954430)

.. .and it fails every time, it tries to install saying this:

    Windows Update - failed

Code 643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

"Get help with this error" provides little or no help... but it says this:
     "WindowsUpdate_00000643" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

All the research I did, the problem seems to be with Microsoft .NET Framework... .and all the solutions I found talking about it, "UNINSTALL all THE .NET FRAMEWORK & REINSTALL" ... I tried and there is no .NET Frameworks listed in Add/Remove, and when I press on ' VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES'... " on my PC it says, "no updates are installed on this computer"... what the _____?

#3 - Today, I thought I would just pop the WINDOWS 7 installation disc and do a repair/upgrade... It will not be upgraded.
He cycles most of the way through, then he Has STOPPED and says this:

The following problems prevent upgrade Windows. Cancel the upgrade, perform each task, (it lists only a SINGLE task), and then restart the upgrade to continue.

    • Windows needs to be restarted if necessary to system files can be changed before you continue.

Does not help restart. He tried 3 times and he ends up doing the same thing.
Is it possible I deleted something out of the register so far here and which is cause of all this?
If so, is it possible to fix WITHOUT doing a new install of Windows 7?
OR... anything can be a problem... Please HELP!

(And please note: I am a first year student college with specialization in computer science... but I just started last semester, so I don't know what I should... yet. - though, I SHOULD have known better than to mess with the registry!) My bad).

Thanks a lot for your time in advance, and I look forward to hear from you!  VikeMike4

  • The Windows Update components fail to install

This morning I noticed that in the past 2 windows update components were not installed.

The table below shows the number of the knowledge base for patches and their associated error codes.

    Title

    Knowledge Base number

    Error code

Update for 2007 Microsoft Office System

    KB977724

    80246001

    Update for Windows Defender definition

    KB915597

    800705 B 4

Should I worry, and if so, are there ways to get these updates installed?  Have one or two of these updates were replaced by some other updates, and if so, how will I know that I have.  If the initial update fails, is windows update smart enough to try to get the latest updates installed, or require a response.  In other words, can I go back to determine what more recent updates will address these issues?

Follow the instructions in this post of mine in another forum (to-the-letter & in order! ) to restore your computer to a State safe & functional: http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=44636

If you need additional help with the clean install, please start your own, new topic in this forum: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-system

Note: The computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local networks (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All your personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.

Wish I had better news for you.  Good luck!

[1] PS: I learned that the hard way, too, many years ago!

  • I had windows updates only 3 update 11 failed and not update, now I can't open my program files

After starting to install windows updates failed only 3 including 11 installed has not tried again they now cannot access some programs include research on the windows desktop, Explorer windows, help and support, system information, disk cleanup, defrag the files, microft office, others I right click and click Properties find target then I get a message could not open the windows file install is not properly installed ,

Your last two responses bring back us to 2 two things you posted yesterday (I had hoped we could avoid).

    In reverse...

[#1] ... I received an error message when I booted my computer that says "cannot find componate RPS.exe. "AntiFr.dll was not trying to install again.

Several years ago, before Verizon (or whatever your telephone company was called at the time) gave the suite McAfee customers, she gave another sequel on Proctection of Radialpoint Suite (AKA freedom Internet Security).

The code snippet above tells me that the Radialpoint suite has been installed on your computer at somepoint in a past distant: files RPS. EXE and ANTIFR. DLL are 'leftovers' from Radialpoint Protection Suite (where letters RPS in the first file name).

Speaking of the hard personal experience, I can tell you more about Radialpoint is about impossible to remove completely without manual editing of the registry - something you DO NOT want to do!

And despite what the volunteer moderator McAfee Forums and communities (own KB of Radialpoint article) has to say, you do NOT want to download Microsoft's Windows Installer Cleanup utility now interrupted the quoted source not Microsoft !

[#2] ... I installed Speedy [PC] Pro last week... every day since then, around 15:00 I get a message that says "cannot find c: Program file commune File\SpeedyPC Software\UUS3\UUS3.dll ' I click on close and she goes until the next day.

Unfortunately, installation & with the Speedy PC Pro 'scareware' is no worse, Dennis. [It is called "scareware" because you have to buy this disreputable application ($34.95 USD, I heard last) until it 'fixed' anything.] [Of course, it won't fix a 'thing'!]  See this recent discussion, some-online http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-security/who-are-speedy-pc-pro-and-are-they-safe-to-use/62629332-a670-4166-b418-e2a5a876daa1

TIP: If you ever think that your registry database must be cleaned, repaired, boosted, point, healed, twisted, fixed, magnified, "swept" or optimized (it isn't), read http://aumha.NET/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions. See also http://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovich/archive/2005/10/02/registry-junk-a-windows-fact-of-life.aspx

If you had not used the Speedy PC Pro crapware, there is a very slim chance that you would be able to install the suite McAfee/Verizon again - at least according to McAfee Tier III Support Tech post on this page. But you don't have so there is nothing we can do about it now. [No, System Restore may not "come to the rescue" here.]

=> Let me level with you here: this set of the problem is due to have not entirely - remove the McAfee free version to test which is preinstalled on your computer, years BEFORE the installation of any antivirus application (for example, the suite of Radialpoint) AND BEFORE installation of Windows updates.

Now the very bad new: the only way to return your computer to a functional & secure State is backup so your personal data (for example, the contents of the My Documents folder;) Favorites of IE; E-mail Client data) then format the hard drive and do a clean install of Windows XP (or buy a computer brand new Windows 7).

Follow the instructions (to-the-letter & in order!) in this post of mine in another forum: http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=44636

If you need additional help with the new installation, start your own, new topic in this forum: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-system

If these procedures are outside your technique "comfort zone" - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the computer to a local, reputable and a stand-alone computer (that is, not "BigBoxStoreUSA" or Geek Squad), repair shop & let them do the work.

Note: The computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local networks (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All your personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.

I sincerely wish I had better news for you.  Good luck!

  • Windows update fails on XP Pro SP3 with 0x8007F064 error code.

Windows update fails repeatedly on XP Pro SP3 with 0x8007F064 error code:

Update security for Windows XP (KB2661637)
A security update cumulative for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2647516)
Update security for Windows XP (KB2660465)

Update works fine until yesterday. Microsoft tool ran (no change), reloaded Windows Update (no change), a tool for malware own virus check comes to nothing. Any ideas?

Since it is a Dell computer, chances are a Norton or McAfee free trial is preinstalled. When you have done the clean install, the free trialware would have ALSO reinstalled (but not valid now).  Let's see if the execution of two removal tools & a few tweaks resolves the behavior.

[You can print these instructions for reference offline. [If a step said to restart, restart! ]

    1. click right on the following link to download the Norton removal tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

1B. right click on the following link to download the tool McAfee Consumer Product Removal, save it to your desktop: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. double-click on the file that you saved in # 1 a above, to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    3. double-click the file that you saved in # 1 b above to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then reboot again.

4 start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove programs. Set Program Access and Defaults: select (check) the CUSTOM [<>] configuration option, and then click the arrows pointing to the far-right | Browser: select "Internet Explorer" here (to not "use my current... »). [1]

    Illustration: http://teamtutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/set-program-access-defaults-02.jpg

If you return to check the out parameter #1 above, it'll be "Use my current..." "but now it's going to be"point"to IE so that you don't need to change anything or reset. [Think of it.]

    5. now check your settings here: IE tools | Internet Options | Programs | Default web browser: If the make default button is NOT dimmed, click/press it.

    6. open Internet Explorer (only!) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 & run the difficulty.

Note => for best results, check the option Remove personal settings .

    7. IMPORTANT - don't SKIP THIS STEP! Open Internet Explorer (only!) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336 of => [ignore the title & symptoms].

7B. do disappear/close the troubleshooter automatic pop - up; then...

7 c. run difficulty he 50202 in DEFAULT modes and AGGRESSIVE. [2]

    8 restart once more.

    9. open Internet Explorer (only!) at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com . Select CUSTOM and scan | See if you can install all the available now security updates (i.e., KB2660465, KB2647516 or KB2661637).

-Online if an update of root certificates is listed under the category of updates software optional on the left side of the window of scan results, install it to enjoy greater security of IE8. [3]

Tip: Do NOT install any other updates software optional or any updated material in option .

    10. in response to this post with a status report.

    Good luck!

    ==================================================
[1] once you get the missing updates installed, do not hesitate to make Firefox default browser.

[2] full Disclosure: the difficulty operating in AGGRESSIVE mode will remove your update history but not list the updates installed in Add/Remove programs.

[3] MS provided the distribution of a new version of update root certificates on Tuesday, 28 Feb-12. Until then, the update root certificates , released on 22 Nov-11 will be offered. MS usually new versions of root certificates update releases every 3 or 4 months.
