When you change the motherboard, you lose all rights to the OEM installed Vista OS.  It is called "tattoo" by HP and is a license agreement with Microsoft. Your only solution is to buy a version of the OS and sure, format the drive to lose all data. The only other alternative would have been to contact HP and ask questions on a refurbished motherboard, or a Board that is in the same group family who would accept the OEM license.

    Hi Rob,

You must install first Windows XP and upgrade to Windows Vista.

If you have a genuine copy of Windows XP, after you install Windows XP you can contact support for Microsoft's Activation to activate the copy of Windows XP.

  • Windows Vista goes to sleep in an unexpected way

I have a system with a new installation of Windows Vista Ultimate (32 bit) that puts itself to sleep suddenly and unexpextedly 2 to 5 times a day. Energy saving settings are set to never sleep or put into hibernation and the system is set to never turn off the hard drive. The system will be in place and running (idle) and when we sit down and go do something like windows mail or the ways of the CCC (a program auto estimate that we use) it suddenly pops up to stop (no video and power LED flashing). We thought initially it was hardware related, but there is an event in the log of events (kernel-Power - system between sleep) so we rulled that out. In addition, the card mother, video, Ram and power supply of this system are nine (video previous card failed, so we took the opportunity to upgrade). We do not have a sleep on the keyboard button, so it isn't 'accidentally' being pressed. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated, it's a pain to have to log in every day and we expect use RDP to work from home on a daily basis soon.

    Thanks in advance,

    Merk_man,
One thing to check is to save the BIOS on your computer to make sure that the current is turned off in the BIOS.  Your computer is a laptop or desktop?  What is the make and model?

There are also different places in Vista where the power settings are controlled.  Please refer to this article for many more details on how to control the power of Vista management capabilities:

When you configure the power options for the active power plan in Windows Vista, the changes do not appear in the Power Options item in Control Panel

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/935799

This problem occurs because the settings that appear on the system settings page are from the registry for the preferred power plan settings.

Changes that you make to the active power management do not affect the global on the system settings page settings, unless you are currently using the preferred power plan. Changes that you make on the system settings page apply to all power plans. These plans to be able to understand the active mode and custom plans that you created.

Note: by default, the power plan favorite is the balanced scheme in Windows Vista.

This article gives you instructions step by step on how:
How to create a power plan
How to customize a diet plan
How to use the Powercfg.exe tool to define the plan of power active
How to use the registry to set the power plan preferred

  • Why an amplification of the RAM does not change the index performnance of windows vista?

Why an amplification of the RAM does not change the index performnance of windows Vista?

    Hello

I m not very well, but maybe you have more than 3 GB of RAM and Vista 32 bit.
Usually the 32 bit OS is capable to manage and send only 3.2 GB.
The more than 3.2 GB RAM will not operating system used and therefore would not increase the index
In addition the laptop will be not really faster after upgrading RAM. You will notice better performance using applications at the same time, but this does not affect the index of Vista.
But this is only my personal hypothesis.

    Welcome them

  • Windows Vista does not start to change from IDE to AHCI in the BIOS

Hi, I spent a lot of time to look at this problem online. I can't find a lot of google search results and they seem to say enter REGEDIT and change the "msahci" start to 0 and even the 'pciide', or 'iaStorV' start parameters to 0. But this does not work for me. The loading Windows with the loading bar screen Green just continues to go wrong and never Windows startup. I have Windows Vista Home Basic Edition.

I saw someone in this forum with a similar problem but they have upgraded to Win7 on a new installation to fix the problem, they spend on AHCI RAID. I contacted Intel technical support and they said to try HP or the manufacturer of the motherboard. I contacted Intel because I installed a 520 Intel Solid State Drive series and wanted to know if they had a driver to get the benefit of the AHCI instead of the IDE. I know that a lot of people recommend a new installation of Windows, but I don't have a Windows cd with this computer (my computer is here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00835809 )

I tried to install this Microsoft fix too. http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/922976

I wonder if there is an AHCI driver, can I install it or what I can do to get the job of AHCI?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

I suggested that you create disks because you said that the computer came with any one and you could not re - install Windows as suggested a possible solution. With these records, you can the recovery of the system back to a factory State. Since you want to install a SSD or change a BIOS setting, these are the changes which can damage the system and require the use of recovery disks.

If you want a Windows Vista 'clean' no HP Setup, please see Paul's response in this thread of the forum called "System Restore not working not not for HP Media Center Desktop PC. According to his instructions is expected to create a bootable Windows Vista installation disc. My only amendment to this method, is not to use the product key Microsoft Windows Vista on the COA on the side of your computer. Instead, I would like to "Save" the product key from factory OEM HP and HP OEM certificate using ' the Activation, backup and restore ' then 'restore' the certificate and the key to the new clean install of Vista. This will result in an installation clean factory activated that does not require Microsoft to activate. Be aware that the software HP added value will no longer be on your computer. If you want to use this software, you MUST create your personal HP recovery disks and copy the "SWSETUP" folder on your current installation of factory to an external support.

Re-install Windows Vista, as shown above with the SATA BIOS settings set on AHCI you like will work 100% of the time. It should also install to SSDs, where HP recovery discs are known to fail.

    Hello

I have a year old Acer Aspire 5720 with Microsoft Windows Vista installed on it.
