Windows Vista / info is missing

My list of favorites marked and all my pictures and who knows what else has disappeared. I tried to recover them but without success. How to make a comeback?

It is difficult to answer your question because it is difficult to understand what exactly happened, what happened, what you were doing when it happened, and exactly what is missing.  I will try to answer to understand that I'm not sure that these are the best targeted solutions because I don't know exactly what happened.

First, I would try a system restore (it does not usually help with data, but it can in this case).  Do you know when this problem started?  Try a system restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem started.  Here is the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/.  Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points.  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.

Your user profile may be corrupted.  To fix this use http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile.  If that is the only available Administrator Profile (you need to be an administrator to fix this), enable the Hidden Administrator Account (HAA) using http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?&lang=en&cr=US&guid=&sloc=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_accounts_passwords&p=1&tid=d20f9db4-7b2c-48be-a087-7835dc2a9055&mid=d20f9db4-7b2c-48be-a087-7835dc2a9055.  If you don't remember the password, try nothing because that's probably what you (or seller) did during the installation.  Once that is done, don't forget to disable the HAA to save it in case it is necessary once again and for safety reasons (since people often try to hack into systems using this account).  Do NOT use the HAA as your administrator account because if you lose the only administrator on the system account or it is damaged again, then you're watered.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it does not, then, we will treat the files as if they are lost.

Check the Recycle Bin to make sure that they are not here - if so, just restore them and the problem is resolved.

If you have Vista Business, Vista Ultimate or Vista Enterprise, you can be lucky.  They have so-called saves shadow copies, which are deleted or modified files that can be recovered in case changes/deletions made by mistake.  http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-Vista/features/shadow-copy.aspx more information about how to use this feature to: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/howdoi/?p=145.

If you have Vista Basic or Premium of Vista, shadow copies is not available; However, there is an alternative that is free and the shadow copies feature called Shadow Explorer. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/recover-files-with-shadow-copies-on-any-version-of-windows-vista/.  Although it will not help you this time, it could very well save you in case this happens again.

In case this does not work (not all files are available through shadow - it occurs periodically), here are some additional free recovery programs that might help:

http://www.SnapFiles.com/freeware/system/fwdatarecovery.html

http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/DiskDigger.html

http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/easusdfr.html

http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/restoration.html

http://www.SnapFiles.com/downloads/Recuva/dlrecuva.html

http://www.SoftPerfect.com/products/FileRecovery/

http://techpaul.WordPress.com/2008/06/23/how-to-recover-your-lost-files/

The files are not really deleted until they are crushed (although they are no longer available through conventional methods).  If you decide to try these recovery programs, you should stop using your drive hard immediately in order not to replace the data that you are trying to recover.  He slave on another PC and launch the recovery of this PC.  Even now you have definitely lost some of them if you use the same PC.  If you can not do this (slave on another PC), you run the risk of overwriting the data with every action you do on the PC (but you may still be able to recover some or most or even all files - it's a matter of luck).

Only you can decide if the data is important enough to take the PC to an expert data recovery to recover files (they will have better programs and hardware to do that none of us do, and I've provided above).  Do NOT go to the Geek Squad or one of these centers of store-, they generally don't know what they are doing - it take for expert data recovery.  It will cost you a little and they generally offer no guarantees.  The decision is yours.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

    Hello

Contact the manufacturer of your computer on the ways to solve this problem.

If you want to reinstall Vista.

    1. ask thrm if you have a recovery Partition on the hard drive to take it back to the factory settings (new condition)

You have to press F10, F11, etc. depending on the manufacturer; ask them to know the exact details.

    2. ask to send you recovery discs to do the same.

They normally charge a small cost for this service.

Using one of the above methods normally does not require a product key for input on your part, because these recovery methods use product key factory of the manufacturer of Installation, which is used on several machines to activate with your motherboard.

  • Subfolders are missing in my Windows Vista mail

All of a sudden all my especially for the Inbox subfolders have disappeared, I'm desperate to get back. I used Windows Mail for 2 years with no problems until I turned it on a few days ago.

The Inbox always works for the Inbox and Outbox, as well, but it does NOT show the pointer indicating the sub folders.

I got CCleaner, check and repair the registry

I have DL WMUtil and clicked on 'Repair', with no result.
Support MS I took the Adviser and Windows Live Mail installed.

All windows updates are installed, including SP1 & SP2

I'm sure each subfolder has it's own DBX and I have what looks like the long list to save them in my F:\Downloads\Email . I see that the Inbox itself is 1.33 GB, which can be too big?

All windows updates are installed including SP1 & SP2.

(When introduced in several years, as far as possible C:\ has been kept for the MS OS and one very little other critics of the programs so that the Image has been observed smaller as much as possible for reasons of reconstruction and restoration.) I have years of work organized and saved and do not want a multi-hour/day sessions to rebuild if the OS crashes.   Most of the other programs have been put in E:\;        and F:\ was maintained for data)

Thus, you will notice that all *.dbx files are in f, not C:\ folders.dbx was changed to folders.old, but the folders.dbx is not regenerated when the mail is opened again.

NOW, I go check Mail/Local C:\Users\Carl/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows files .  There is No folder.dbx, .old, .bak, etc..   But the records that I'm missing may not be in the local folders.  Each of the files *.eml files/messages and I can click on and open one of them.

So the sub folders (the typical yellow icon) appear to be in C:\
But the *.dbx files (icon looks like a blank white page) are in F:\
So how do them together and recognized again?

    Hemet, CA

    Hi CarlP33,

C:\Users\Carl/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows Mail/Local Folders is where Windows Mail stores data by default on a Vista machine. And DBX is not the format in which windows mail stores the data. He stores them in a format called. EML you find that is correct.

. DBX is dead... This is the format in which Outlook Express uses to store its data. If you find these files in F:\ they could be a backup or that you copied.

See below on how to import the DBX (Outlook Express data) in Windows Mail.

  • Boot MGR missing, Windows Vista,

Hey! so I have a Lenovo that runs on windows vista, and it had this nasty virus that I could only remove by resetting my computer back to factory settings (I saved most of my personal files) and if that wasn't bad enough, when I tried to restart my computer it says "Boot MGR is missing, press Ctrl alt delete to restart ' does NOT incidentally , so long story short, to fix it, I need to use the windows vista disc to repair the file, but I don't have the disc, but I have the key phrase that sits on the bottom of my computer when I bought it, so any suggestions regarding How can I come on a windows vista disc or download windows vista so I can burn it to a disc? preference for free because I already OWN Windows Vista?

    Hello

There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer/laptop there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

"How to activate Vista normally and by Activation of the phone '
