  Sorry, if you are not set up as an administrator user account, you cannot enable the built-in administrator.

  If you want to enable the built-in Administrator account, then you'll do the following:

  ·         Click the Start button on the desktop

  ·         In the search box, type cmd (do not hit enter)

  ·         Make a right click cmd.exe and select run as administrator

  ·         Type net user administrator / Active: Yes

   

  After seeing a message that the command completed successfully, log off and now on the login screen you should see the built in admin account. By default, there no configuration password, so if you want to use the built-in account, make sure that you set a password. To disable the built-in account, type the following:

  Type net user administrator / active: No.

  I have a user account on my computer. This is an administrator account. I can connect with my administrator password and I am in this account as I write this. When I try to change the password in the control panel-> user accounts-> change your Windows password I get my password for the existing administrator and then the new twice, but I get the error message "the password entered is incorrect.   1. Open a command prompt.
  2. Type this command:
     NET user
     (You see what account names)?
  3. Type this command:
     DIR C:\Users
     (Profile folders do you see?)

  If your name is missing in both cases you did not know a destructive factory restore.
  At the beginning of your message, you wrote "in spite of being the administrative account and the only ONE on my computer". It is also risky to have only one key of the House. Sooner or later you lock you up. An alternative admin account, fully tested, is an absolute necessity.

  Looks like the user profile is damaged.  To allow for the recovery, you will need to log in with an administrator account.  If your MOM was the only administrator account, try starting mode safe mode (F8 at startup) and log in as user 'administrator '.  The default value is the empty password.  After that, follow the steps in the following article:

  To resolve this problem, you can do a simple registry fix using the Windows Registry Editor.

  REGISTRY WARNING:

  (b) access HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

  (c) If you have an entry for NoDispCPL, double-click it to open it

  (d) otherwise you can create it by going to the Edit menu and selecting new then DWORD value

  (e) enter a name of NoDispCPL and press enter

  Once you have this entry you have to double click it and set the value to 0

   

  When you are finished, close the registry editor. The change will take effect immediately.

  What you were doing was equivalent to throw out your safe master key. Not a good idea. Here's how you can recover from this error:

  1. Set your BIOS so that it uses the DVD drive as its primary boot device.
  2. Start the computer with your Windows 7 repair CD.
  3. Press a key when prompted to boot from the DVD.
  4. Select 'PC Repair' in the menu.
  5. Select 'Repair' when prompted.
  6. When you are prompted, select System Restore.
  7. Configure Windows to a point before you disabled the admin account.
  8. Instead of disable your own and only the account admin, you now need to create, test, and document an alternative admin account, same as you have a spare emergency House key. This will save you a lot of trouble.
