Security update for Windows XP (KB2686509) fails on several attempts both automatic and manual update.

The Go.Microsoft.com reference site for this security update does not exist and automatically takes me to a site that is irrelevant.

I tried checking the utility support Windows successfully and he stretched something but still no change on my attempts to update.

I attepted to change my boot through the msconfig utility, but it still does not work.

I cold booted my computer without modification.

I disabled Norton 360 during the download and update and still no change.

In automatic update mode, it tries every night and shows me the message that failed in the morning.

Internal error is fairly generic, but a common situation, we see this error is when ACS is installed on a

The solution that worked there was rename the CATROOT2 folder and the SofwareDistribution folder in the Windows directory in the Windows > System32 directory and reboot. This solution came from the Microsoft site. After that, I was able to download and install 50 of 51 updates. A fails repeatedly: update for Windows XP (KB2686509) security. I get error code 0 x 8007005. I tried several fixes, including one designated for error 0 x 8007003 (rename file) download at download.old as well as the use of aggressive mode on Microsoft Fixit. Always fails to update. All other updates installed correctly, including a new this morning, but of course update continues offering that failed. Any ideas on how to get this installed? This is a relatively new, so I'm not sure that the problem is that it is already there, but the first failure was around 40 of the 51 when I check the history update file. • cannot install update security for Windows XP (KB2686509)

cannot install update security for Windows XP (KB2686509)

    Hello, gsfl Jg,

Open Windows Update and check if KB2686509 and KB2676562 are or are not installed.

When you tried to install the update, you would have received an error code.  Please return this zip code which lies in Windows Update.

Why this update is offered again several times?

Windows updates are revived until the update is installed on your computer. If this update is already, perhaps an installation failure has occurred. Check log files to install KB for the error codes. For example, the log file of installation KB for this security update would probably "C:\Windows\ KB2686509.log"
For more information about how to resolve these problems, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

958051 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958051/) you receive a "0x8007F0F4" error code when you try to install the updates on the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site

What should I do if the installation of this update fails with the error "0x8007F0F4"?

If you receive the "0x8007F0F4" error when you try to install this security update, follow these steps:

    1. Open the Faultykeyboard.log file that is located in the folder %windir%. This log file contains information about the registered keyboard layout files that are not in the folder % Windir%\System32. The log file will resemble the following:

      Keyboard1.dll.\Layoutfiles\keyboard2.dll C:\Windows\System\Kbda1.dll

Note In this example, the first entry is just a file name. The second entry includes a relative path with the name of the file. The third category includes a full path of the file.

    2. Copy the files that are listed in the Faultykeyboard.log log file in the System32 folder.

Note Contact Microsoft technical support if you can't find the Faultykeyboard.log file.

Is there a wat to fix this problem without needing to know the registrys etc.

    Thank you

    Mick

See my post on the third page of this topic which contains detailed instructions for anyone with this problem. Go to the bottom of this page and click Next until you get to page three.

Thanks for the update Mick. You should be able to double-click the file to open it in the command prompt. I did not write the script, so I can't tell you why you were unable to launch it by double clicking. Right click and choose to run it in command line will still work.

@ Icom756pro I do not work for Microsoft, then you would be best suited to forward your complaint directly to them. I understand your frustration, however. I can only recommend that you try the script that I've linked to page 1 of this topic. If this does not resolve the problem then simply hide the update. You should not be prompted to install later.
