  Thanks for the reply. I managed to solve the problem before you receive your advice to defragment my hard drive. I had the problem on / off power for about six months and defragmentation has not always been successful success so when it happens then I will go through the procedures that you have listed. I have installed and uninstalled various applications in the last six months and suspect that the register is not in optimum condition... I have a problem during a shutdown or reboot stop where I get an error of tfswctrl.exe I close and the system then hangs and requires a medical examination.
