Windows XP PC help empty?

Hi, I have a desktop computer that runs on Windows XP.  However, the computer has become slow mainly and is used as a computer professional.  I backed up all the files that are needed to clean the computer integer back to how it would be when bought.  However, I have no CD to do this.  Is there another easy way simple I could do? Thank you for your help.

You should have a method to achieve, provided by the OEM to original (OEM) of the system.  Something along the lines of you provide a CD/DVD to do this, the ability to make says CD/DVD or maybe a partition of the disc you enter a special key sequence to get to and to restore from.

Have you lost the CD/DVD?  Is the OEM (Lenovo, Dell, HP, Gateway, etc) the system was manufacturered by still in business?  Have you contacted them to get media (which they can charge you a small amount)?  You might also look over this: How to replace Microsoft or hardware, packs software service to order and replace product manuals.

Do you have a sticker on the machine itself with the product key for Windows?  It corresponds to the type of installation (Windows XP _ Edition) now installed?

Otherwise - you could clean and clean more and see if that fixes it.

Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find.  Reboot when necessary.  (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in.  Look for whatever it is you do not know using Google (or ask here.)  You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory.  This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

Do some cleaning and dusting off this hard drive:

You can free up disk space (will also help get rid of the things that you do not use) through the following steps:

Windows XP should take between 4.5 and 9 GB * with * an Office suite, editing Photo software, alternative Internet browser (s), various Internet plugins and a host of other things installed.

If you are comfortable with the stability of your system, you can delete the uninstall of patches which has installed Windows XP...

You can run disk - integrated into Windows XP - cleanup to erase everything except your last restore point and yet more 'free '... files cleaning

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
2. click on the System Restore tab.
3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
-Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
-Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.

You can use an application that scans your system for the log files and temporary files and use it to get rid of those who:

CCleaner (free!)

(just disk cleanup - do not play with the part of the registry for the moment)

Cleaning the components of update on your WIndows XP computer

While probably not 100% necessary-, it is probably a good idea at this time to ensure that you continue to get the updates you need.  This will help you ensure that your system update is ready to do it for you.

Download and run the MSRT tool manually:
http://www.Microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx
(Ignore the details and download the tool to download and save to your desktop, run it.)

Reset.

Download/install the latest program Windows installation (for your operating system):
(Windows XP 32-bit: WindowsXP-KB942288-v3 - x 86 .exe )
(Download and save it to your desktop, run it.)

Reset.

and...

Download the latest version of Windows Update (x 86) agent here:
http://go.Microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=91237
... and save it to the root of your C:\ drive. After you register on the root of the C:\ drive, follow these steps:

Close all Internet Explorer Windows and other applications.

AutoScan--> RUN and type:
%SystemDrive%\windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe /WUFORCE
--> Click OK.

(If asked, select 'Run'). --> Click on NEXT--> select 'I agree' and click NEXT--> where he completed the installation, click "Finish"...

Reset.

Now reset your Windows with this FixIt components update (you * NOT * use the aggressive version):
How to reset the Windows Update components?

Reset.

Now that your system is generally free of malicious software (assuming you have an AntiVirus application), you've cleaned the "additional applications" that could be running and picking up your precious memory and the processor, you have authorized out of valuable and makes disk space as there are no problems with the drive itself and your Windows Update components are updates and should work fine - it is only only one other thing you pouvez wish to make:

Get and install the hardware device last drivers for your system hardware/system manufacturers support and/or download web site.

If you want, come back and let us know a bit more information on your system - particularly the brand / model of the system, you have - and maybe someone here can guide you to the place s x of law to this end.  This isn't 100% necessary - but I'd be willing to bet that you would gain some performance and features in making this part.

    Hello

I couldn't take it any longer using Windows 8.   I installed 7 Pro 64 on this machine, only to find HP doesn't provide drivers for 7 for this particular model.

The useful link below got my work to adapt (LAN) network.

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/desktop-operating-systems-software-recovery/HP-110-017C-downgrade-to-Wi...

Currently, I am missing the drivers below.

Network controller (possibly the wifi adapter)

    SM Bus controller

    (USB) Universal Serial Bus controllers

Any help on this problem is highly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello:

Please see if these drivers work:

    SMBus:

    https://Downloadcenter.Intel.com/download/20775/Intel-chipset-device-software-INF-Update-utility-

    USB3:

    https://Downloadcenter.Intel.com/download/22824/USB-3-0-driver-Intel-USB-3-0-Extensible-host-controller-driver-for-Intel-8-9-series-and-C220-C610-chipset-family

I need to make a simple set of clicks in order for me identify the model of wireless card which needs the driver.

Since there is no driver installed wireless, need a labeled device network controller in Device Manager under the other devices category.  The network controller device will be somewhat ! brand next to him.

Thus, to find the network controller device, click on that and then click on the Details tab.

Now, you see a drop-down list of property and it is set by default to the Description of the unit.

On this list and select the second element (Hardware ID).

After the first string of characters you see in the window.

  • can't see installed updates_says no updates installed (windows on_off list also empty features)

I installed windows 7 ultimate (32 bit) on three new Vostro (I - 5) machines and all the updates and software that we use. Then Windows Update list says "no installed updates" and features Windows on_off list was empty. To i.d. the problem I reinstalled win 7 ulimate (32 bit) and all of our programs on one of the new computers. After every installation or Windows Update, I checked Windows Update/Installed Updates list and the list of windows features and all the elements included (visible). When most of the installation path through the updates to ArcGis 9.3.1 a flag came who said two critical windows updates were available. We stop at installation of ArcGis for windows of the road updates. After you run the windows updates XML Core Services 4 SP2 (KB973688) and an update of security for the same (KB954430) I went back to check the windows update list and he said "no updates installed on this computer" also, nothing has been shown and list of windows features box was empty. Tried to roll back to a previous time, but that doesn't seem to work. Automatic update still seems to work, but we cannot see the list so that we can remove individual updates... What is happening and what can be done, any ideas, thank you.

I thought that I should let one more message for anyone after that because I think that the problem is solved. I googled on the number 'KB973688' and "Arcgis 9.3.1" update it lead me to a thread that has referenced the following urlhttp://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=1148&t=287391#902480 . It offers a solution to change the registry size limit. It seemed risky, but it worked all updates are now visible and windows features on_off shows what should be. Two updates came back and auto installed but now did the damage. They do not appear on the list of Windows Update, but the rest don't. Maybe install Arcgis was the culprit

for Win 7. All three new machines work properly, thanks again for your support.

  • "My external hard drive does not appear in Windows Explorer and cannot open 'Help and Support', an error message" Windows cannot open help and Support because a system service is not ongoing.

    Original title:

Everything was fine until yesterday. Juice now, when I plugged the external HD into the USB port it does not appear in the 'my computer' window. It is recognized by the computer as it is present on the list of the "Disk Clean Up" and it also appears when I click on ' Safe Remove Hardware ' on the taskbar. But if she does not appear in the 'my computer' window I can't work with it or don't even know what it I have arquived in it.

Trying to find a solution, I realized that same 'information system' to 'System tools' is also not available. Pops up a window saying that "Windows cannot open help and Support because a system service is not ongoing enforcement. " To resolve this problem, start the service named help and Support '. OK, I tried to open 'Help and Support' ' Start Menu ' and the same window appeared again to "not have a system service that runs". I don't know what her soul precisely and I have not the slightest idea of what I need to do to correct this 'disappearance' of Service 'system '. There is nothing without the appearance of HD in the window of thw work? Everything else works fine and the calculation is virus-free. What should I do?

    Hello

You did changes to the computer, before the show?

    Solution A:

For the problem with the external drive not appearing is not in Windows Explorer, see the following methods.

    Method 1:

    Check out the following link.

A computer that is running Windows XP cannot detect a USB, an Apple iPod flash drive or an external hard disk drive

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/925196

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

322756 how to back up and restore the registry in Windows

    Method 2:

Connect the external hard drive on another USB port and check.

    Solution B:

For the problem with the help and Support, check if the service is enabled.

    a. click Start, click run. In the Open box, type services.msc and press ENTER.

    b. right-click on the service called Help and Support , and then select Properties.

    c. under the general tab, set the type Startup to Automatic and click Start.

    d. close the services window and check for the issue.

Hello. To activate the other native components of Windows, go to start > Control Panel > programs. In "programs and features", you will see "turn Windows features. Go ahead and go to 'games '. Expand it '+' and check out the games you want. Checking the box next to 'games' will add all.
