Unable to update Windows (error Code: Code 8004015)
original title: unable to update Windows
I run windows vista 32-bit, HP laptop, can provide details if necessary
When I try to update windows (my last update was 3/25), the update fails to check for updates, it reads:
An error occurred when the new updates for your computer. Error (s) found: Code 80040154
I tried it without real result on my own troubleshooting.
In addition, I can't update Windows Defender, which signals that it cannot check the updates of definition with found error:
Code 0 x 80244001.I can not also turns on the AVG identity protection as it times out when you try to configure. I have performed analyses of the complete system with AVG, Malwarebytes and rootkits but with no infection research are, but I do not deny the possibility of having a hidden virus.
It may be helpful to say that my laptop has had problems with blue screens lately, even these problems with the updates before began. I got mixed messages on the blue screen, errors of entry being the most common. I think there may be something wrong with one of my drivers, I sent my laptop in for repair earlier and it wouldn't surprise me if they did not work. However, I did the repair of the tool without any result Windows driver.
Finally, the system restore does not work on my system for some reason any and I do not have a backup disk. Right now, I'm considering just buy windows 7 and all wiping. My laptop is not really unusable, it's just embarrassing to have it down every day and not be able to update.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm running a Toshiba with Windows Vista. The 24th of this month, I have installed the updates for my computer, but when I rebooted I had absolutely no noise. I double checked to make sure it was not cut, I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, and then I tried to do a system restore. None of them worked.
Then I tried to check updates more see if this would help to solve my current problem and began to find more mistakes, such as "could not find updates, error code: 800 b 0001 ' or 'Code error 8024402F' these are mistakes that I see most.
Then when I go to open certain programs I get errors that say something about ' bad image: problem with Dssenh.dll "when I try to save it again, I get other errors with about 5 other .dll files.
Of course, I went to the Microsoft website long enough... and I went through multiple options and steps, but nothing helped. So I thought that my last option is to ask.
The last thing I can find is to download the "System update readiness Tool" to check for problems.
Well, I can't download or run because of my error '800 b 0001'.
I don't know what I would do at this point... Help?
Before the update from the update began when my computer was being restarted... I had a black screen and had a weird three-step process that was supposed to be recommended. Meanwhile, there was a flood of information that crosses the screen.
I ran a scan complete antivirus just in case, but it could be a virus that has not been detected? If anyone has any information, it is greatly appreciated... I don't know what to do.

The error that you receive on the Windows Update page is 0 x 80070026 (ERROR_HANDLE_EOF STRSAFE_E_END_OF_FILE) seems to be the problem with the update being corrupted during the download somehow.

I can't update windows. I get to 800706BA and error Code 800706BE codes. I also get frequent error messages that Cryptographic Services like stopped working. I would really like to fix this way! Thank you.
OPTION A:
Visit the Microsoft Solution Center and antivirus security for resources and tools to keep your PC safe and healthy. If you have problems with the installation of the update itself, visit the Microsoft Update Support for resources and tools to keep your PC updated with the latest updates.
OPTION B:
You see the effects of a hijackware infection!
NB: If you had no installed anti-virus application or subscription has expired at thetime the first machine was infected and/or your subscription has expired since or the machine is not been kept fully patched in Windows Update constantly, don't waste your time with any of the following: Format & reinstall Windows. A repair install won't help!
Microsoft PCSafety provides users at home (only) with free assistance in dealing with infections by malicious software such as viruses, adware and spyware (including unwanted software).
https://support.Microsoft.com/OAS/default.aspx?&PRID=7552&St=1Also available via the homepage of Support of consumer safety: https://consumersecuritysupport.microsoft.com/
Otherwise...
1. see if you can download/run the MSRT tool manually: http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx
NB: Run the FULL scan, not analysis FAST! You may need to download the MSRT on an uninfected machine and then transfer the MRT. EXE to the infected machine and rename it to SCAN. EXE before running it.
2A. WinXP-online Windows Live Safety Center scanner 'Protection' (only!) in Mode safe mode with networking, if necessary:http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm
2B. Vista or Win7-online this scanner instead: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm
3. now run a thorough check for hijackware, including registration required before a proper Court, logs don't here. DON'T SKIP THIS STEP!
I can recommend the assistance of experts available in these forums: http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?board=10.0, http://www.spywarewarrior.com/viewforum.php?f=5, http://www.dslreports.com/forum/cleanup, http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.phpand http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30
If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, good reputation and stand-alone computer (that is, not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) repair facility.
Good luck!

Hello, I'm trying to update windows after installation and I get error code 80072F8F. After looking for other pages, I checked my BIOS date and time are correct and Windows as well.
Laptop: Dell VOSTRO 1510
Windows 7 x 64 PROI already activated Windows (silly me to check everything actually works) and I need a solution as soon as POSSIBLE.
I needed Windows update to try and fix a number display adapter (card intel not giving not external display resolutions)- but that's another question.
I hope that there is a fix out there somewhere in the ether.

No anti-virus installed at the present time, no anti-spyware, no firewall.
Repost: What were the problems you are experiencing that you thought that a "new facility" could solve?
The foregoing notwithstanding, and since you neglected to install an antivirus application...
Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) won't fix this!
HOW to do a clean install of Vista: section "If you want to reinstall Windows Vista by running a new installation...". "of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista
Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) otherwise and before using a flash drive or the SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:
4 steps to help protect your new computer before going online
http://www.Microsoft.com/security/pypc.aspxTip: After getting the computer fully patched, download/install KB971029 manually: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971029
NB: No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the removal tool before installing updates, Windows Service Packs, or updates IE and before installing your new anti-virus application (which will require WinXP SP3 must be installed).

I have HP Pavilion p7 desktop PC - 1446 s running 64-bit Windows 8
I keep gettting an error about 98% that says "windows update Setup error" or something very close to that.
I'll post a picture, too.
I have tried everything I can think of, even a new installation of Windows 8...
Any ideas?
With 101 updates, you probably drive your nuts to the computer.
All of these updates must be installed before you attempt to upgrade to Windows 8.1
Download and run the Windows Update troubleshooting tool
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=Windows-8
Reboot and update 5 at a time, it will save time with less frustration in the end. If it fails to install, hide them right click in the list updated, we'll work on that later. Continue with the next batch of 5.

This should eliminate a known problem that manifested by blocking windows update to do research without end and CPU at 100%, what is happening unless the most recent monthly cumulative IE security update is already manually downloaded and installed. Second Tuesday of each month, this will be a ritual to perform or windows update crashes. This is caused by a problem with the site Web of windows update is not a problem with your computer. Microsoft is committed to solve the problem which has continued for months. Promises, promises. The genesis of the issue took place in the summer 2013 and has been reported in this community after the updates of August, when it was reported that the last cumulative update of security for September KB2870699 be downloaded and installed manually set the CPU of fortification to Windows Update. The linked thread shows this being reported in September and a month the well-known universal question went from bad to worse, with the installation of the updated cumulative security for IE being the fix manually. The problem has been compounded by a bad Microsoft Fix it tool that was linked by Microsoft as the fix for Windows Update problems, but the difficulty bad it tool would then instantly to corrupt the registry of a computer of the user and cause an additional problem that would make the BITS and the two stop work, worsening the problem instead of fix windows update problem. 971058 is the famous set and there are other iterations that have the same bad code and cause the corruption of the same register.
The linked TechNet page

will give you a link to most recent monthly cumulative security for internet explore that you must manually download and install before you will not be able to access windows update

Select the download that is necessary for your version of Internet Explorer and download and install it and restart your computer before you visit Windows Update to get other updates which will then become accessible, after the prior cumulative IE security update is downloaded and installed MANUALLY and the computer is RESTARTED.
The steps above should solve the more obvious and certain to problem. However, there are two other known problems that may also arise and are common questions of interest as the extra aggravation. The first issue is certain and the other 2 issues can also either or both be also present in the form of a complication.
It often happens that the installation of SP3 will break the windows update feature by not properly installing the windows update agent. An older version of the windows update agent can be downloaded and saved in the C directory and installed by an execution command.

Update: a later version of windows update agent is available during one of these linked pages

Steps 1-4 or 5-8 alternatively should solve the problem with the windows update agent.

Here is an associated KB article which does not have the entire article on the causes
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/927891/en
Another article linked here shows this is not a new issue, but has been perennial
To connect to Windows Update the old version of Windows update agent detects installed and the latest version will be installed after consenting to the ActiveX installation.
If this does not resolve the problem with Windows Update, then troubleshooting must then attend an essential required service BITS called which may be dysfunctional and causing the problem.
See this thread and response noted the response of Xircal.
BITS is a necessary process that was recently discovered to have been broken on many computers by a faulty Microsoft Fix it troubleshooting and repair tool.
