Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro...

My father recently passed away, and I have an Optiplex 780. Proof of license/certificate of Authenticity on the Tower shows the OS to be Windows 7 Pro and the product key is referenced. The computer is in fact running XP Pro. Is there a way to move to 7 Pro? I'm not sure of what he was doing, but from what I've been able to muster in doing the research, there was a 7 Pro downgrade to XP Pro. Can I upgrade to Pro 7 and if so, how? We are still going through some of her things, but have not yet find discs. I recently did a new install of XP Pro and had to delete and create a new partition. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hate to just see the computer collecting dust. :/

Update the BIOS for final revision A15:

See updating the BIOS. It is a legacy (non-UEFI) BIOS:

Once this is done you must download a Windows 10 TH2 .iso and clean install using your product key Windows 7 Pro (check that you select Windows 10 Pro when installing). This should be done on another computer as the 10 Windows Media authoring tool does not work on Windows XP:

If you have any other computer (Windows 7, 8.x or 10) to run the tool of creation of media Windows 10 you can use the direct Techbench no downloads. See here for more details:

The two big names of virtualization are Parallels and VMware. They have a sort of leap-frogging each other in terms of features. Parallels has a fairly seamless integration between Mac and Windows.

Your Mac is also already comes with Boot Camp, which lets you install Windows on a separate partition.

  • Why the sound does not work in Windows 10 with BootCamp installed on MacBook Pro mid 2012

So, I recently had a mistake huge hard drive, then I formatted the drive and installed Windows 10 I downloaded the BootCamp 5.1.5621 software (which is the version for this computer) and my audio didn't work. I've used Windows 8.1 in the past without Activation, but that was a few months ago. I've deleted it 2 days after I put it on the computer, but all drivers well worked out there. Although I plug in a USB headset and audio installed and worked fine! Help, please! I even reinstalled BootCamp!

I have the same Macbook Pro 2012 with boot camp and dual boot Windows-10 and Sierra.

Everything works fine. I think you have the wrong boot camp files.

I think that you need version 6. Reconnect to OS X and run the boot camp assistant and try to download new files from boot camp.

  • Need help to install Windows 8.1 on the partition, bootcamp on Macbook Pro 15 "mid-2010 w / no optical drive"

I tried for almost a week in all possible ways to get windows installed on a boot camp partition on my main SSD 1 TB drive as a partition, or on my HARD drive, which is installed in place of the optical drive.  So far, everything I tried to give me some sort of error at some point in the process.  It seems that many of them are case by case, so I thought that I invite you all and see if you can help!

I use a Macbook Pro 15 "mid-2010 that I improved with a 1 TB SSD drive as the startup disk.  My optical drive was not functional, so I moved my old 500 GB HARD drive to the location of the optical Bay.  I am also under the latest version of El Capitan (10.11.6)
    Here are my system specs:

    Presentation of the material:

    Model name: MacBook Pro

    Model identifier: MacBookPro6, 2

    Processor name: Intel Core i7

    Processor speed: 2.8 GHz

    Number of processors: 1

    Total number of cores: 2

(By heart) L2 Cache: 256 KB

    L3 Cache: 4 MB

    Memory: 8 GB

Processor speed of interconnection: 4.8 GT/s

    Boot ROM version: MBP61.0057.B11

Version of the SCM (System): 1.58f17

What I tried (from what I remember):

I tried to change the Bootcamp info.plist file for my version of the macbook pro to use a USB stick for the installer.  It seems to have installed correctly but once I partition the disk and restart the computer, it gets stuck on a white screen with the Apple logo and I am forced to make a hard stop and then hold down option to boot into OS X, recovery, or the EFI Boot.

If I go through the windows installation to start the EFI system, I get an error of:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk.  The selected disk is a MBR partition table.  On EFI systems, Windows cannot be installed on GPT disks. »

I also tried to create a partition by using disk utility, and that too made me an error in the installation of windows.

So far, the only way that I'm away from windows to run at all has been using the free trial of VMware Fusion 8... but I intend to use windows for more intensive tasks like audio pro, and merger simply does not offer the performance necessary to run these programs.  I'm hoping to install windows 8.1 on my internal SSD or HARD drive, regardless of the work - as long as OS X and files associated with it are left alone.

If someone could help me please understand this point, I would really appreciate it!

    Thank you

If your computer has an optical drive, you must use the optical drive to install Windows using Boot Camp Assistant.

  • How can I find my battery cycles? I have a MacBook Pro under windows in Bootcamp.

I have a MacBook Pro running Windows 7 in Bootcamp. My battery indicator says I should replace my battery. How I 1) know how many cycles my current battery on it and 2) know what battery I should seek to replace?

I found the system hardware, but it only shows the Windows information, which included no battery cycles.

Windows 10 download expects an existing installation of Windows 7 and will upgrade over him, using the key of Windows 7 license to build a new license key Windows 10. The free upgrade to Windows 10 period expired at the end of July. Boot don't Camp in El Capitan no installation supports a Windows 7 any longer.

  • MacBook pro 15 2011 10 windows restart issue

    Hello

I have the macbook pro 15 2011 with intel core i7 2 GHz. 4 GB ram 500 GB drive HARD + SSD 120 GB (purchased recently with tray adapter HDD/SSD).
I have a strange problem with RESTART MAC in windows 10 company. If I restart windows by start I get a black screen with a single line: no aucun disque disk boot found, insert a floppy disk and press a key. I tried once more to restart, but the second time I pressed the ALT options and found strange thing that start menu does not show anything after a few minutes I saw recovery internet icon appeared. This problem occurs, restart windows through start or bootcamp app with option restart in mac os x. Then I stop mac and turn on, boots fine default OS (mac os x el capitan or windows) and with the option key boot menu appears with 2 choices of operating system.  Restart windows to mac os x works, simply very good.

I'll show you my not what I did for my new hardware and software installation:

    1. support usb bootable instalation with mac os x el capitan
2 changed main old HDD for a new SSD (location on hard disk)
3 installed mac os x el capitan on SSD.

4 used bootcamp to create the partition for windows
5 installed windows 10 on ssd with great drive
6 removed great player and place SSD hard disk space Super slot.
    7. installed formatted old hdd hard drive location.
8 booted system, no problem found until I tried to reboot from windows to mac os x through the bootcamp software.

I have turned off to quick start 10 Windows but did not help.
    Suggestions? Drivers, works very well

Where a problem? How can I repair the partitions or menu start-up do not start because its boring.
    IM new to macbook.
What can I test or do more?

Move your drive with Windows up to the main drive Bay and there leave. Put the OS x install disc in the Optibay. Test and verify.

There are paths in BCD, which can cause starting problems.

  • Is there a downside to the creation of a partition in windows on macbook pro? My gut says run away!

I went to the macbook pro away windows as much as possible; I have no idea why any company still working windows. Unfortunately I have hardware that is 'windows only' and I'm debating setting to the top of my macbook to be able to run it. Where my question. Any advice is welcome, as I said, my gut says RUN and simply use a second computer (windows at low cost version) when I need to work with the material.

Rather than create a Partition to Boot Camp for Windows, it is possible to run Windows in a virtual environment using software such as Parallels Desktop.

    Hello

I try to install Windows 8.1 on my Macbook Pro 15 "2011 model running El Capitan

I use Boot Camp and a 8GB USB DRIVE

Firstly I have only two startup options Boot Camp, not three like I see in a lot of guides on how to do the installation.

    My options are:

    1. get the latest software for Windows Apple support

2 install Windows 7 or newer

After that I've marked both options download works, but once it's done I get a message telling me that the InstallationRecommandations does not exist.

  • Firefox does not open Windows - intermittent - 10 pro

Once I click on the icon to launch the Firefox browser I momentarily have the little blue icon of waiting... then nothing.
I can use everything on the computer, including the border, IE, Chrome, and Safari.

If I go to Task Manager it shows Firefox without activity. I can summon a number of instances of Firefox all do the same thing... nothing.

If I finish all instances of Firefox in the Task Manager, then try to run Firefox again once it opens and works normally. I can run a number of instances, and they work as they should.

If I normally close all instances of Firefox, they may or may not work the next time I try to run Firefox (intermittent). If the browser does not, I repeat the closing the Firefox process in the Task Manager and then reopening it... It will work then.

I tried to do a clean install of Firefox without success. The same problem.
The new installation of Windows 10 pro (64-bit)

I have another laptop with Windows 10 with the same Firefox addons and same imported bookmarks etc. It works very well.

This is puzzling?? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you
    Peter

    Hi Fred,.

Thanks for your quick response. I tried your suggestion, but it did not work, but you got me thinking... Thank you.

What I did... I uninstalled Firefox and then deleted all the references in the window registry related to Firefox.
Then, I put the edge as default browser, restarted.
I then downloaded and did a new install of Firefox and set it as my default browser.
    Rebooted just to be sure.

    Yay! It works now.

  • Cannot install Windows 8 on retina Macbook Pro 2011

I try to install and run Windows 8 on my Macbook Pro 15 "retina end 2011 with OS 10.10.5."

I read a ton of forums, and they say all get a Windows 8 ISO from Microsoft Web site. I did it.

Then, they say get a Virgin USB key and plug it in. I did, and I put the ISO on my USB external drive.

Then he said: open Boot Camp Assistant, what I do, but then it does not match what say all forums. When I open the Boot Camp Assistant, he goes to the Introduction page. I click CONTINUE and the next page says SELECT TASKS. The only two available tasks are to "Download the latest software from Apple support" or "install Windows 7 or later.

I select both, it asks me to select my destination drive, what I do, then click "CONTINUE".

It downloads the Windows support software.

Then I get an error message that says "Installer disc cannot is, wait a few minutes for something (I forget exactly).»

So I wait and nothing happens and I'm back on the screen SELECT TASK.

    ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED.
